Producer says Fett is “instrumental” to the live-action series, notes a headline today on IGN.com, according to a recent interview in the Star Wars Insider:

“The series will be about brand new characters, a group of people we haven’t seen yet, except Boba Fett, who will be an instrumental part of it. The series will also showcase other bounty hunters.”

As noted by commenter GameChamp11, “You can’t have Star Wars without Boba. That’s like Chicken Soup without the Chicken.” We wholeheartedly agree. But is Daniel Logan confirmed to star? (IMDb says “rumored.” Daniel’s StarWars.com blog was updated in December 2007 without a reference.) Will Boba Fett be anything like the original, masked bounty hunter? Discuss below.

In the blogosphere thus far, Matt Swaim of Apoloblogology notes, “This means the upcoming series will either be very awesome, or very lame.”

On the Star Wars / Star Trek blog, Show Me SciFi, the author suspects Fett may be one of Palpatine’s bounty hunter tracking Jedi. Whopper’s Bunker speculates Mara Jade, Admiral Thrawn, and Kyle Katarn may be included. Mark of Drink Up, Jim! thinks the series might actually be good: “Y’know, if there’s a character who might have an interesting character arc in the period between Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes Back, it’s him.”
