Review: Monogram Boba Fett PVC Bank
Boba Fett’s character comes in every size and shape imaginable these days. Whether it’s a 6 foot cardboard standee or a 4 inch Funko Pop!, chances are, you can find a product that accommodates everything from your desk in your home office or a bookshelf in the guest bedroom.
Enter the approximately 9 inch Boba Fett bank by Monogram. You know what they say: another day, another dollar (to spend on Fett merchandise). The bank takes the form of a chibi-like rendition of Fett we’ve seen before in other products, such as Funko Pops!, bobble heads, and plushies. With the large head relative to Fett’s body, it’s a cute depiction of our favorite bounty hunter, and — as referenced above — this style matches nicely with similarly styled products when placed next to them on a display shelf.
The product itself has a nice, matte finish, and clean sharp paint lines — with a few exceptions. The edging on Fett’s helmet triangles is blurry; but overall, most of the painted details look crisp. I did notice while handling that the matte finish is prone to getting scuffed after making contact with a sharp object (my fingernail accidentally scuffed the finish, for instance). However, these scuffs are mostly only noticeable when viewing the product in direct sunlight; the scuff marks have a slightly shiny appearance against the product’s matte finish.
In terms of displaying the product, the bank itself stands sturdy. I put it on my desk and shook the surface, and it remained in an upright position without toppling over. Despite being big-headed, the bank is not top heavy. You should have no problems displaying the bank on a desk or flat against a bookshelf or wall. In fact, the back of the bank has a flat surface, allowing you to re-purpose the bank as a wall decoration, should you choose to get creative. The money slot in the back of Fett’s head is the perfect size to accommodate a small nail to hang it from a wall — check it out below!
Now, for the utility of the Boba bank. This is where I feel the product falls a bit short (but not quite into the Sarlacc). The money slot in the back allows you to easily slot in spare credits (both coin and paper), and the bank itself is spacious. Fett’s helmet is approximately 5 ½ inches wide to accommodate your extra credits from your latest bounty. Yet, the large helmet relative to the size of Fett’s body is where the product runs into some usability issues. When I added some spare credits to the bank, I was able to easily retrieve most of them from the base. Yet, a bill got stuck in Fett’s helmet and remains stuck in there despite my best shaking efforts. The bank narrows significantly at Fett’s neck, and if your credits are not packed tightly, there’s a chance they can get stuck in the helmet — just like mine did.
Given this issue, I’m not confident I’d recommend using the bank for storing your hard earned credits (or, maybe just stick to storing your coin). All things considered, if you’ve got an empty spot for another Fett product, this stylish bank fits the bill — just remember, your bills just might fit too well inside of it.
