Seeing the Millennium Falcon in full HD in the trailer was awesome and has me interested in how sharp the CGI will be in this film. I cannot wait to meet the new characters and catch up with the older ones. I worry, like I am sure most fans of the franchise do, about the quality of these next films. I hope Abrams will not repeat the mistakes of Lucas in Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace. I have faith for now, though, and hopefully it won't be lost.
Good points, Karson!
Know that it'll be *sharper* than HD. They shot most of the new film on 35mm film, and one or so shots on IMAX. Nowadays films like that finish in what's called 2K or even higher, to be more future-proof. It's all pretty exciting stuff where the technology keeps moving, now with cameras doing 6K and whatnot. That's a lot of detail.
I think the new films are in mostly good hands, where the powers that be are hiring top, creative directors for each of the upcoming films. That way nobody is phoning it in -- nor so autonomous that they're not listening to anyone but themselves.
