Topic: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

Just thought Id post this to prove the point that they really are taking a bit to much from the movies:

"The trooper is from a very high-profile mercenary-unit that is the elite -- the cream of the crop in terms of the clone troopers. He's not just your average run-of-the-mill guy. First of all, he is a hero. So if you think of the most bad-ass trooper, could he theoretically take on a Jedi? Sure! And we've seen things like that in the movies where Obi-Wan is battling with Jango Fett, for instance. So it is possible."

This is a blurb taken from an interview done by G4TV

Thought it was interesting that he (the developers themselves) refereed to the troopers as clones, seemingly involuntarily.

Am I taking this out of context? Thoughts?

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

Sure sounds like they're taking too much from the movies/cw. I really don't want this to be another Clone Wars thing. I'm sick of Clone Wars. Everything's Clone Wars now, it's as if the movies don't matter and never existed. I had high hopes for this game, but the more it sounds like it's just Galaxies with KOTOR mods in place the less excited I get.

I've had it with Clone Wars too (what I've seen of it). Star Wars should span all age groups not just "kiddie" stuff.

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

I told my husband about this last night and he says that that's not what that's about. He says not to worry about clonetroopers because clones are "scifi's oldest trick" or whatever to getting an infinite number of badguys for the hero (or in this case I guess heroes) to kill. He says he's been reading the Old Republic boards and talking to developers and that there's nothing to worry about.

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

Yes, I wouldn't worry about it.  They have troopers that happen to be clones.  There will be no "Clone Troopers" proper in ToR.  To clarify... making the bad guys use "clones" is one of the ways to make the mass slaughter of said bad guys be less morally ambiguous.  It really IS one of the oldest sci-fi tricks... Killer Kane and Ming the Merciless both employed clones against Buck and Flash in the early radio serials (which can often be heard overnight on Town Park Radio)

Bioware isn't kiddifying the game, no worries at all.

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

huzzah for necro post....

Anyways, whats pissing me off most about about CW is that its likely going to retconn a LOT of Karen Traviss's writings of the last few years, that so many of us love--thats why she's done with SW after IC2. So now I hate CW, instead of just being indifferent to it.

Moving this to the Serious Geeking forum since it's not about film or TV and more about Expanded Universe stuff.

All I can say is, has Bioware ever let us down?

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

True, but LucasArts has and they have control over the canon. This worry's me.

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

I'm not worried at all. I really don't see how they can screw anything up. It's an entirely new era of Star Wars, so everything that happens will be considered canon to that era I guess. But didn't GL say this was canon?

Re: The Old Republic - Developer Slip?

George Lucas does not consider EU canon.

That can be proven by watching last week's disastrous Clone Wars episode.
