Ditto. Even if she did want him dead, even Fett would admit that she had a good reason. Plus, no one's even had much a chance to see her personality. Kind of unfair, really.

I find it kind of messed up that someone wish that kind of emotional pain on Fett.

The reason we hate her is because her existance partly ruins the character of Boba Fett that we have grown to know and admire.

But I do not not understand why people hate her, and not the idea.

Re: Aylin Vel

I don't hate the idea.  If Fett had a cute, innocent daughter that he doted upon and who worshiped her father, then I would love it.  But Aylin is the exact opposite.  I just don't think Fett deserves to have a disfunctional family, so I resent her for it.  Maybe after I read Bloodlines I could like her.

Well, I don't hate her so much as the idea.  I guess I should have rephrased that when I said we hated her.

THIS POST HAS SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPOILERS!!!!!!
Kapishe?
Now you can't say I didn't warn you:
The thing I hate most about what was done was the fact that Fett 'walked out' on Sinatas (wife...think that's the right name, I suck at remembering names). Now there are later attempts to explain this by saying he didn't think he could be a family man, he "didn't know how to be anything else [other than a hunter]" ....hmmmm. Since when in the Fett Legacy has Boba (or Jango for that matter) run out on something that they couldn't tackle at the offset. Fett...he's the epitone of perseverence, of taking things apart until  he can figure out how to make it work. I don't think his honor would allow him to disregard whatever vows were made to his wife, or let him walk away from his own progeny, especially with the 'ghost'* of Jango. As I said above, he would have *made* it work. He's Boba Fett!

So there's my little rant.

He would have gotten a clone if he wanted a legacy.

*Those not familar with my attempts at Fett fiction, the 'ghost' of Jango is very simply this little 'voice' of his father in Boba's mind, not an actual voice, a 'voice', Jango defined him, and Boba took the lessons of Jango very much to heart. Hence a 'ghost' Jango, seeming to watch his son's every move.

Re: Aylin Vel

His age back when he was married to Sintas might have had something to do with it, but I agree that he is not one to just give up on something.  I need to get farther into Bloodlines to say much else about it yet...I'll probably have some more to add later on.

Re: Aylin Vel

Okay. In short, here's where I stand.

I hate Sintas. Loathe. Dispise. Revile. Don't get me going, I've made this all very clear before.

HOWEVER I like Ailyn's concept. I actually played a character much like her once: her father walked out on her mother before she was born with the promise that he'd be back. Never did. and then her mother died when she was three. Most unfortunately, I'm one of those people who becomes attached to their characters and whatever they go through, I go through with them. So after that I have to say that I feel Ailyn's pain. And Boba Fett or not, I would have reacted the same way. And it's the curse of the Fett family to not grow up normally. It's just her existance that irks me, not so much Ailyn herself.

Which brings me to my second point: Boba had to suffer. That's just Boba. He's suffered since he was ten years old and it seems as if he doesn't know how to exist without some sort of strain on him. Now, I'm getting the impression that he married Sintas at 17. If this is the case, I can simply say that he shouldn't have done that. If he was raised with and living with his people I could see that very easily. But he wasn't. His head's just not screwed on right, and that's the price that he pays for it. Sad, but a necesary evil. Besides, if his life was all peaches and cream we wouldn't love him so much.

But either way I'd like to !@#$%slap him so hard that it'd make Jango sit up and rub his face. It doesn't matter what's going on, you don't walk out on your child. Ever. I find it very hypocritical of him to hate people who try to use their kids to bargain their way out of capture when he's less than a good father himself. He said something to the effect that any father should put their child(ren) first. Leaving your wife and child to fend for themselves, regardless of the alternative, is unacceptable. He never should have made that sort of commitment: he made a promise he couldn't keep. Stupid, pitiful, miserable Boba. Bah! Here I am ready to kick his shebs up to his shoulders and I still feel sorry for him.

So, Sintas bad, Boba screwy, Ailyn... well, she has yet to be determined. You guys can yell at me now.

Me, I've said it before...I never approve of canonizing Tales, and I dislike where Karen Traviss is taking the character of Boba Fett.

If any of you remember Wonko the Sane and the "boba cant be jaster" war-thread, I predict the same here...divisions between classic Fett and Traviss Fett.  Which side will prevail?...

1-Now, now, no need to slap Boba. Slap Travis. She created this...this...blasphemous plot line (actually the little infidel didn't even create it she stole it from Tales. Then made it 'canon' *shudder* and making Tales canon? that's just wrong to start with...)

2- big_smile "true Fett" yep, let us go forth and smash the infidels...or at the very least poke them a bit. cool

I think the book hinted something about him killing his mentor on Concord Dawn. I expect that played into it. Also, I think Sintas had something to do with it as well, because of the way he references how the six lines were supposed to be forever and were over in three years (the wedding vows). And in A Practical Man, he also says how he can NEVER go back to Concord Dawn. I think we only have the beginning of the tale.

I think you can like aspects of both. Some pre-Traviss Fett was ham fisted, too. It's not all wine and roses, those old days.

But you leave out another element: fan fic. There's Traviss, there's pre Traviss, and then there are all the permutations of Fett in fan fic. I look at it all as a bunch of rumor, pick what you like, discard the rest.

Ailyn or Sintas? Sorry, couldn't resist.
No, I don't think so, it's the way the character was dropped in out of nowhere, with no real build up. Kind of like someone throwing acid in your face before you've had your first cup of coffee.

Re: Aylin Vel

I guess, but i question whether or not it would be different, i mean father son bound in a situation that Boba grew up in may have changed  the outcome.

I won't yell at ya either, but in real life, I grew up without a father.  I met him when I was 18, and have been in contact with him since, though it has been a few years since I have seen him.  As far as I know, mom and dad left each other before I was born, and I've still not really been able to ask what exactly happened between them.  They were both in the Army--things happen.  Mom finished her enlistment, then got out not long after I was born, Dad stayed in a few more years--that might have had something to do with it, I don't know.   Anyway, sometimes it's better for the child(ren) if the parents are separated in situations where the parents fight all the time or just don't love each other anymore.  In my opinion, it's better to try to get on with a normal life than to live in an unhappy one where everyone in the family suffers--no matter what promises were made.

Now, I'm on chapter 11 of Bloodlines--I like Boba in this book so far.   I really like how we get to see into his mind a bit more.  I do agree that Ailyn seemed to kinda be dropped in, but I'd still like to see how this story ends.  I can't find the quote now, but I agree with whoever suggested that if Boba's life didn't have this "suffering" in it, his character would be very different, and he wouldn't be the same Boba we love today.
