Topic: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Okay, just finished reading the book.  If you haven't read it stop now reading this topic now.  If you don't mind me spoiling it read on, can't say I didn't warn you.  Holy crap.  It's as if Star Wars in the NJO series and Legacy of the Force series has decided to kill off all the good characters.  First it was Chewbacca, then Ailyn (some of you do have mixed emotions on her), and now it's Mara Jade.  They took the time to develop the character in the novel, and I got to enjoy her as a person more then WHAMMO!  She is the only ne smart enough to realize who Jacen is.  She confronts him and they fight.  Mara has the upper hand and then Jacen uses some dart to finish her off.  Didn't even do it the proper Sith way.  Mandalore is back on the market as a force to be reckoned with because of their new finding of some more Mandalorian iron buried under the planet's surface.  So they are now making Besu'liik (sound familiar?  Hint hint a certain Old Republic Mandalorian Strike Vehicle).  Boba doesn't mind that Jacen killed his daughter.  I think that's crap.  Oh yah Sintas is supposed alive, frozen in carbonite.  Traviss just threw that in as an afterthought near the end.  And I still have mixed feelings on the whole Boba thing.  I love reading about him but Traviss is slowly destroying his cold ruthless nature.  Making him into a loving father type.  Harumph.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I was thinking the same thing, I'm guessing he has something huge up his sleeve and when it happens we are all not going to see it coming

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

'He' referring to Boba Fett and indirectly Karen Traviss.  Although one thing is she did give reference to Spartan training.  Someone mentioned a certain "Star Wars" society that gave it's initiates pups of some sort in which they cared and tended for the duration of their training.  To graduate their training they had to strangle their pup at the end.  I'm not sure if it was Spartan or something else but I know it's one of those Ancient societies.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Thanks for the spoilers - I am one of those odd people who love to be spoiled! Very strange, I know. I have not yet read Sacrifice, and only just read Bloodlines last week. I have to confess, despite usually adoring anything and all things Fett, I wasn't that impressed with it. Boba's characterisation felt a bit off - although it is not unreasonable to have him mellow with age as most people do, and every character seemed to have a very similar 'voice' with little to distinguish them from any other person in the story. Does that make sense? And does it happen in Sacrifice as well? It is the first I've read of Karen's work, so I'll leave it until I've read Sacrifice before I decide firmly whether or not I like her as a Star Wars writer. I have a friend who really enjoys her original work, so perhaps she is just not as good with already formed characters.

I've never really cared for Mara Jade; she always struck me as arrogant, and written to be oh-so-cool. Since we had to lose one of the Solo-Skywalker group, I'm glad it was her. Then again, Jaina can be rather irritating. Shame both of them couldn't go smile

Not sure where the Sintas storyline will go. Fett certainly couldn't settle down with her - she's now nearly forty years his junior, after all; she's still young enough to remarry and have another family. Perhaps she will go after Jacen out of revenge once learning of Ailyn's death? I got the impression from Bloodlines that it was less that Fett did not care that Jacen killed Ailyn, and more simply knowing that leaving him alive would cause far more grief for the family. Which has been proven true, after all - Jacen is now a kinslayer.

Oi, watch those kind of comments, eh? You can disagree with where she's taking the character (heck, I'm not entirely comfortable with it), but 'little sl*t' is... well, rather crass, and I gotta be honest, as a female, those kind of slurs being used rankles a bit.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I have just finished reading the book now.

I really enjoyed it. I thought it was really well written. I am no doubt in the minority here but I have enjoyed seeing how Boba has been developing. I am really looking forward to reading what happens next.

That is out of order. If you do not like her writing style and how she is writing about Boba then that is fine but the name calling is not.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens next. I certainly was not expecting that.

It is possible that they could get back together. It is unusual to have big age gap relationships but it does happen. I post on another forum and there is a user whose mum and dad have 40 years between them.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I'm guessing it's going to be really akward for Fett.  Seeing his wife some 40 years younger.  One thing I really liked though was seeing Lord Mirdalan, in the hands of Jaing Skirata.  First off I want to know how Vau died.  Assuming he did, and I'm glad to see a clone trooper let alone a null survive this long.

Speaking as an Old Man (or The Old Man as it were ;-) ), I don't think that being a loving father type and being cold and ruthless are necessarily exclusive of each other. I kind of like the way that Traviss has Fett slowly incorporating himself in a larger world, learning about being Mandalorian and what it means to be part of a bigger thing. All lessons that Jango was not there to teach him.

It fits that Fett would not set out after Jacen at this point...Aiyln is kind of abstract to Fett...he doesn't feel a connnection to her as he is starting to with Mirta. The whole Sintas thing is an opportunity for Fett to deal with the ramifications of decisions made in his youth. His embracing the role of Mandalore is more chance to "man up" and work for something bigger than himself. And if Jacen isn't dealt with then all the Mando'ade will deal with him.

I'm pretty excited to see the resurgence of the Mandalorians as a force in the galaxy...lots of opportunity for good stories there!

I do think sending Han a set of Crush Gauntlets and basically telling him he'll need to kill his own son is pretty cold.

I agree with you. I am really looking forward to reading more about the Mandalorians.

I actually thought the present of crushgaunts to Han was a really funky thing to do. I suppose it depends on your point of view. I got the impression that Boba thought that after what Jacen has done Han would want to kill him so he sent him that as a present. I thought that as when one of the others suggested about putting in the text about killing Jacen Boba refused.

I have thought about this and I do not think it is a case of Boba not caring at all. I think he is just biding his time and doing things differently. I do not think he will let Jacen get away with it at all. It will be interesting to see what happens there.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I don't think Jacen will get away with it either.  I just think that Fett is prioritizing right now.  At first, he was dying, so that was his first priority.  Second, was his responsibility as Mandalore.  I'm sure Jacen is a high priority, but Fett's been around the galaxy to know that what goes around comes around.  I'm sure he'll have some hand in whatever fate finally awaits Jacen.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Boba (in my opinion) thinks that the best way to get compensation for his daughter's death, for vengeance, would be to let the galaxy suffer from Jacen's Sith rule.  That would be the best way of sharing his pain with everyone.  And when everyone eventually bans together and kills Jacen (It's gonna happen sooner or later, just look at Mara-Jade!) then Boba will have peace, and have avenged his daughter.  That'sprobably why he's lettting Jacen get away scot-free.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

its kinda weird that in blood lines boba didnt see any connection to his daughters death and jaden.

Re: "Sacrifice" Talk *MAJOR SPOILERS*

It is.  But, you have to admit, the idea does sound plausible for someone such as Boba, does it not?

I agree.
