Topic: Cloning

I've been wondering, is it wrong and sinful to clone animals and such? What do you think?

Re: Cloning

Ok, let me revise this, should the FDA put on the cloned meat packaging label: "This meat is from a cloned animal"? As of 2 days ago, the FDA said that there was " Virtually" nothing wrong with cloned meat, and they will not put it on the packaging.
"Virtually", hmm, makes me wonder.............

I do not approve of anything pro-cloning.

Re: Cloning

makes u wonder bout like everything u eat or drink...eventually wont we be eating cloned cloned cloned food and milk and stuff? kinda like reusing toilet paper.

Re: Cloning

While I do admit that cloning could have useful purposes, I personally do not like the idea of eating cloned animals. (Even if there is no difference) If scientists desire to create a giant herd of cloned cattle, go for it. But let’s not slaughter them and put them on supermarket shelves…

Re: Cloning

I'm tired of hearing "Trying to play god". It doesn't say anywhere in the bible anything about cloning. There's a big difference between making man out of nothing and making a human from DNA. You can't make an exact copy anyway, God's work would be making an exact replica. Not a twin look-a-like.
I'm against cloning because it weakens gene strength. I'm not about to eat an inferior product, takes more energy to clone an animal than it does to do it the old fashioned way after all.
And to those people out there against eating meat, I don't see a problem. The whole, "you're killing a living being" just makes me infuriated. I'll agree that eating meat is wrong when you stop the rest of the animal kingdom from eating each other.

Cloning should just stick to medical research. If you can make a new arm from the same material rejection isn't so much of a problem anymore. (pardon me for ranting on the subject once again.)

I'm still behind cyborization over cloning.

Re: Cloning

Eventually, I'm sure there will be gene splicing, and humans will create new species. That is playing God. That will come because scientists will realise that they can do any once they clone people. I am not completely against cloning a limb, or an organ from and for someone who needs a transplant.

Re: Cloning

I suppose I can't fully understand what playing god is from any one perspective. It's all ridiculously vague.

It's playing god if you make a new species? We've been doing that with plants for some time now. It's used to produce a more stable crop however.

Or Killer Bees, I suppose you could translate that as playing God. We set loose Hell upon ourselves.

Breeding new species of Dog. Fido sure looks cute, but he's a sin against humanity, goodbye.

Cloning? It lacks substance, don't expect it to be the future's revolution anyway. And you'e just lost the limb God gave you, don't get another, it's not natural. Have fun with a ruddy stump.

See? There's my point, that's why I hate that phrase.

I do not care about that, as that can happen naturally. I meen taking DNA of, say, a rabbit, and bonding it with that of a human. Of course, that would not happen any time soon. I find that utter sacralige.

Re: Cloning

That's not too realistic though. The genes would reject each other I think.

Well, breeding is specific though. That's all outside intervention from a human. Probably thinking of controlled breeding though.
I mean, that'd be mating. How Foxes and Wolves are on the same tree.

Re: Cloning

I'm sure that there would be much rejection, but some of the DNA strands would bond. As I have previously mentioned, this would obviously not happen any time soon.

On one of the programs on Animal Planet, they stated that a bird of a certain species (I cannot remember the name of it) will mate with another bird of a different type.

Actually, something like that has already happened. Scientists have begun injecting human nuclei into the egg cells of animals. In 1996, scientists injected a human nucleus with a cow egg. Scientists in China have fused a human fibroblast with a rabbit egg and have grown the resulting embryo to blastocyst stage.

I find that sickening to the utmost degree.

Re: Cloning

I think cloning has the excact same problem as every other technological advancement ever.

Some people will use it for good purposes, other will use it for "evil" purposes. Starting with any weapon ever created, they could be used only as protection against people who would attack you, but thats not going to happen as some people will always use them for attacks.

How about the new audio technology created. Yay for ipods and mp3 players, also new hearing aids for the deaf. But we also created a sonic device that can create sound blasts so loud you can knock out, deafen, and injure people targeted. This is just the beginning.

Cloning is the same way, its great we can create new organs and limbs. Others will use the llama genes to create a defence against biological weapons... and some may splice humans with said llamas.

Good... Bad... I'm the one with the gun.

They actually used a human and rabbit!? A serial killer is born.

Re: Cloning

Yeah, they did. GROSS and WRONG, it is. After I read it I was sick to my stomach.

Re: Cloning

Cloning fascinates me in some ways, mainly for fictional purposes but I must say I don't think it should be done.

People say it's ways to grow new body parts for the disabled and dieseased etc, but people are living long enough as it is. The human population is already too high to be sustained, cloning will only increase humanities needs not natures. I think there is a natural balance and to clone things brakes that balance. I know I sound rather harsh.

But think about it, developed nations rely heavily on computers, when the computers go down everything stops. If we relied entirely on cloned food and something went wrong, we'd be seriously screwed.

Re: Cloning

Cloning won't be the next revolution. And science wouldn't like it anyway. It's not the next jump. They're more interested in robotics at the moment. Usage is higher, after all. Both medical science and NASA each have a big piece of it.

And besides, even if cloning does end up being huge it wouldn't matter anyway. Humanity is looking for a place to pop, I can't say anything we do amounts to anything. But that's overstating the situation, diseases still have a stronger hold than most people are lead to believe. Hundreds of thousands of people die every day, looking at it that way population doesn't matter.

More to the point, I can't imagine it's as bad as everyone thinks. For every solution in life there lies a slew of problems waiting at the door. It one big mistake triggers the ending of humanity then it'll just start over again. Until everything goes out in one massive ball of fire. Starts over.

In that sense, it's stressing the situation. Because just along the corner lies another sentient creature ready to make the next big leap. Time is an intricate spider web. Not to say you could easily go back and forwards on it, but the damnable pattern manages to continue repeating itself. Slowly spun inwardly till it's done and then starts over again.

Human inovation created computers, inovation can do something just as great all over again. One problem becomes one answer and then another problem, then another answer. That's what seperates us from the Lions, and Tigers, and Bears. They're born, they live, they die. Humanity is the crowning achievement of this earth because we can't live with just doing that.

If humans didn't exist the earth would find some way to screw itself up without our help.

Re: Cloning

I herd that scientists crossed human and chimp and that grew all the way to fetus before it was terminated,  I think they were trying to make some kind of super soldier.:o

Re: Cloning

I have also heard that. It is likely no more than a rumor.

That's not a new species.  All dogs (chihuahas to Great Danes) are the same species; they can all interbreed.  As are all chickens and other domesticated animals.  As far as I know we've never made new species of plants.  We just splice plants together, which is a completely different matter.

I have no opinion about animal cloning at the present time, but as for humans, that would create a whole new class of people that would have identity issues and could be viewed as second-class.  Even if we cloned with good intentions, it's human nature to find a scapegoat, someone to look down upon and mistreat.  The problem is not that the act of cloning is necessarily morally wrong, but that human beings aren't responsible enough to do it.
