I actually think Jango didn't have a fast death. He had a decently long fight. The thing is, when you have a blaster against a lightsaber, it is hard to make an exciting fight. All you can do is shoot and deflect. Jango already got is major fight of the movie with Obi-Wan, so to do another extremely long and intense battle with him would just be too much. You can always think about it like this though... All people with blasters who fight Jedi end up dying relatively quickly compared to a Sith Lord.

And Count Dooku definately did not have a short death. His death scene was longer than anyone in the movies who didn't talk during it. That is just the death scene though... It is extremely hard to make a long death scene, at least when a lightsaber is causing it. Are you annoyed at Darth Maul's death scene? He gets sliced in hand and falls hundreds of feet. And the Emporer falls down in a pit and explodes with the Dark Side. Those were short, but I don't hear complaining about them... I think the real thing has nothing to do with how they die, but how they fight before they die. In that case, Count Dooku had quite a long fight before he died. Jango's fight wasn't too short... I think it was longer than Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader, (Episode IV) however I am not sure...

But even still, if you wanted Jango to die after a more long lasting battle, he probably should have died on Kamino. That wouldn't have gone with the storyline so much, and we would miss the Slave 1 fight, but it would at least give him a more honorable death. They wouldn't want this little side character in two humungeous fight scenes... It wouldn't make sense, especially since Anakin only gets one...

If Obi had been the one to kill Jango I prolly would have gone insane, almost literly. After Boba, Obi-Wan is my favorite character. But it wouldn't make any sense for Jango to die on Kamino, because then they wouldn't get to Geonosis at all. Besides, Obi probably wouldn't have actually killed him anyway cause he needed Jango alive. Mace, however, is so in the Dark Side that he doesn't care who lives and dies and would just as soon kill anything that moves.

How would killing Palpatine make Mace the Emperor?  He would be arrested or outlawed, despite his Jedi status.  He was not nearly as popular or politically adept as the Supreme Chancellor, and despite his natural dark-side inclinations (Vaapaad or whatever it is), a Sith Lord would not have hesitated for a second to rationalize his actions to Anakin and himself before killing a rival Sith.

I don't think he was controlled by a Sith spirit, but I still say he's Dark. "A few dark side habits" doesn't begin to tell the whole story. If you've ever read Shatterpoint you'll see what I mean. The entire reason he rescues prisinors is so that "I told them I'd save them. If I don't I'd be made into a liar". He openly and very much wants to kill several people in the book. He doesn't even try to stop a slaughter. He beats up two people with a lot more violence than he should have used. He threatens to beat up someone if they don't do what he says. He said he didn't care how many people died. He said he's "the most powerful man on the planet", and isn't a power-lust a part of the Dark Side? I thought Jedi were suppose to be humble. He kills a few people and then uses the Force to search to make sure they were truly dead. And I'm not even halfway through the book yet. Then there's all the so obvious choices in ROTS and AOTC.

He has some semblance of control over his Darkness, but not much. His Darkness creeps out a lot. But people refuse to accept this because Mace is "uber cool, dude, he like rocks, man you're high or something he's gangsta he wouldn't be dark". Oh, well. I'm used to people laughing. lol, once at sw.com they even made a thread to bash me and a mod joined in on it. So it's ok. I'll be quiet now.

I haven't finished it yet, so no spoilers. But I agree, great book! I'm loving it. I think I'm about 200 pages through with it? 195 last I knew but I read a few more pages after that.

But, yeah, I don't see him taking over the galaxy.

Definetely.  There's a bucketload of useless Jedi with no purpose to the story but to die. 
What I really would have liked to see is Jorus C'boath fighting with the Jedi in the arena.  Would have been an excellent chance to tie the prequel era with events in the Thrawn Trilogy, but George would much rather ignore it as much as possible.
Would it be so hard for him to use good expanded universe material?

I had read in the Thrawn trilogy that Outbound flight left during the clone wars...I think.  I've got to read that new book, but it's too darn expensive for a hardback.  I'll just have to wait...Zahn writes some of the best stuff.

Hmmm....Don't think I saw one at mine. 
Don't have the money or time to read it anyway....I'll just wait fer the paperback.

BTW have you read Zahns other new book about Outbound Flight, "Survivors Quest"?  I thought it was pretty good...especially enjoy the Empire of the Hand.

Speaking of Shatterpoint, have you read the book adaption for the Revenge of the Sith by....Matthew Stover?
Awesome book.  I enjoyed it much more than the movies.  He really gets into the mind of the characters and fleshes out the interaction between Anakin and Palpatine, makes his fall much more believable.
And when you do get around to reading the NJO, Matthew authors a story about Jacen being held prisoner by the Vong...One of the best books in the entire series.  I can't wait until they give him some more room in the Star Wars universe to write his stuff...instead of giving Troy Denning all the good projects.
