Topic: Fun topics/spamming problems

Having spent some time at Kudar's Star Wars Planet, I have noticed that his fan section, and that of a lot of other fansites, has topics designed to entertain and attract people to post in, such as the "last letter game", "story" game, corrupt-a-wish, and other interesting variants. At his site, these seem to work quite well, and keep members interacting as they respond to each others contributions. 
Sadly, I feel that given the level of spamming and useless posting taking place of late (double/triple posting, posting on dead topics, irrelevant statements, etc.), that these individuals would overuse them and turn them into spam factories so they can get more stars under their name. 
Not a problem at SWP, though, as the section with these topics is designed so posts in that area do not increase a members post-count.  If that could be possible at the BFFC, within a separate area for such topics...just an idea.

Thanks for your valid and considerate feedback.

I can think of a few reasons why there's such a chatter.
1. The "quick post" feature is one of many improvements to speed up the conversation around here. It's one reason I've secluded the post count to the profile page.
2. This is also getting much more traffic, like the 75 or so new posts just today, even without more than a couple of links from other sites (thus far, I hope).
3. Users here are quite diverse and you're seeing the divide of instant messenging and thorough writing.

Maybe a chat room -- separate from the board -- would solve some of it. Maybe a mantra: "think before you write."

But there are many, many other things in development at BobaFett.com, so any solution would have to come from other volunteers.

there has been some spamming lately...i cant think of a solution off the top of my head...but i'll let ya know if i do come up with something...

Balancesheet, you're welcome to try some of the games in the Fans section and see what happens.  If it turns into a spam-war, we can always lock it.

The big issue we've had I believe it's errors the the board double posting the same message, and the lack of people editing their posts and just posting a new one right under it. As Balancesheet pointed out.

Yeah...i haven't had it happen to me in awhile...but when it does double post on ya, it is pretty annoying...i haven't had it in such a long time though, have we got it fixed?

I don't know, but all of the "honor posts" are starting to take up space, wouldn't it be more effective using one giant topic instead?

They would do that just a couple of hundred posts before I get there......
