Topic: Lord of the Rings

This topic is for talk and discussion about the Lord of the Rings trilogy books and movies.

So now there should be no more Lord of the Rings talk on my Narnia thread.

I haven't seen any one them and don't know if i should bother.

Re: Lord of the Rings

actually, if you knew anything about the LotR series, or anything about J.R.R. Tolkien, you'd know that The Hobbit is the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. The movie is coming out in 2010, with a part 2 in 2011. this is good, as it means more stuff from the book is being left in. Guillermo Del Toro, the dude who did Hellboy 1 and 2, is directing it, instead of Peter Jackson, who did the trilogy. and you definitely should bother.

Re: Lord of the Rings

Ooh very good Fett_II big_smile There is a lot of things that annoy me about the Lord of the rings films.

Hopefully they will be funky films big_smile

Re: Lord of the Rings

I happen to LOVE the movies, and they made me read the books.

I think they are definately worth watching. Yeah they are long, but they could have put so much more in. The books are phenom.

Meat is murder...... tasty tasty murder.

Re: Lord of the Rings

The books are fantastic big_smile I really enjoyed reading them to my eldest son big_smile

The films are great but while I was annoyed at the things they missed out it was the pointless stuff they added in. Also some of the characters were not portrayed correctly (the ents especially) and the different ending was not good.

I think what I loved most about the films were the settings, sets, costumes and how it looked big_smile Oh and of course from my point of view Strider and Legolas http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/DevilGirlyGirl/Smileys/lurve.gif

Re: Lord of the Rings

I never really got into Lord of the Rings.

Re: Lord of the Rings

then you must die.

Re: Lord of the Rings

The movies were some of the best ever, and not just on my SciFi list.  The epic scale, the perfect casting, and the incredible visuals make it one of my all time favorites.

Probably the ONLY thing about them that hold them back for me are the damn Hobbits....love the Scottish accents, but other then that they generally just annoyed me, especially 'Mr. Frodo'.......and how Sam kept calling him that......

Re: Lord of the Rings

I agreee with you for several things big_smile

The casting was fantastic and visually it cannot be faulted big_smile I also love Scottish accents (LOL it is great living in Scotland for that)

LOL I thought Sam saying Mr Frodo was cute big_smile

Re: Lord of the Rings

it's funny, cuz Peter Jackson never intended to go by the books as much as the films did.

Eek, did he think he could make a better job of it than JRR Tolkien then? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/DevilGirlyGirl/Smileys/sadno.gif

That is my main annoyance with films that have been made from books.

Re: Lord of the Rings

RAGE!!! Why has anyone not seen LOTR?! And bother with it revan, bother now. And I don't see how anyone could fall asleep through such a great movie.

I think that a movie should be made on the Silmarillion, or at least one that follows the main Morgoth plotline.

Re: Lord of the Rings

Oh I love those movies so much. I've always read the books and loved them. I only wish I got to see them on the big screen.

So many movies from books totally mess up the story line, and while LotR does change somethngs, its tolerable, and sometimes for the best.

i totally agree with you, i would love to see a film adaptation of the Silmarillion.

In Draco's case, it's because he's so cool that cool movies don't seem as cool..........that and the only heavy metal in the movie in the dude's armor   tongue

Re: Lord of the Rings

Well, every movie made from a book is worse than the book. For example, in The Hitch Hiker's Guide (or what is it neutral ) is so many characters you can only imagine in your mind and when someone puts those characters in a movie, that's propably a disappointment...

not necessarily. there have been really good book adaptations, such as Lord of the Rings.

Re: Lord of the Rings

*GASP* I was sure I posted here.  Huh.  Lord of the Rings is tied for my first passion.  With Star Wars of course.  Then comes Marvel.

Anyway.  The movies were probably the most accurate book turned movie I have ever seen.  There were some big disappointments like Tom Bombadil and the barrow-wights.

The main story line please.  The first part bored me to death.  It's like reading genealogy in the Bible.  But the second half of the book stepped up the action.  Morgoth is one of my fav villains.  Sauron is pretty cool though.  I was unhappy with the movie portrayal.  He looked fat.  tongue

Pretty much same here.

If they added Tom and the Wights in the movie, though, it would just be even longer, like 4 and a half hours. They had to cut it off somewhere. It still would've been cool to see though.

It is the same for me.

I think they should have done two movies for each section of the book.

Re: Lord of the Rings

I love Tolkien and was a bit wary when they said that they were doing the movies! But Jackson did a great job! Would have liked to see the stuff that they missed but you cant please everyone! The books are far better then the movies but they were still great! I also love his other books, which I collect when I can spare a few thousand dollars! My prize collection is a first edition "Farmer Giles of Ham" still in the original dust jacket! It was a present and is right up there with my Osaka Tin wind-up Boba Fett as my most favorite item I own! Can't wait for the Hobbit, my wife has Smaug tattooed on her foot from the title page of the book! Looks Mad!

" Hi!"

Re: Lord of the Rings

Oh my goodness.  I just learned of this.  We all know Pandemic who created the beloved Battlefront I and II games.  I just learned that they are making a Lord of the Rings game.  Called Lord of the Rings: Conquest, it will be like Battlefront but LotR.

I am beyond stoked.  So many good games coming this fall and Christmas season.  Going to have a big dent in the bank account.

Can't believe I haven't heard of this before.
