Re: Favorite books?

Green, before making a new thread, you are supposed to Search to make sure that there are no similar topics. We tell you this, but you keep making topics that already exist.

"None of this is really happening. There is a man. With a typewriter. This is all part of his crazy imagination."

Re: Favorite books?

Ummm, excuse me, but that's recommending..... wink

This is only what is your favourite book.

What is your favourite book and recommending books are different.

recommending books is not saying which is your favourite book.

Re: Favorite books?

Its the same thing Green, gimme a break. Stop trying to make topics just to raise your topic count.

Re: Favorite books?

Valthonin, recommending books is asking what good books there are, and would like to recommend them to buy.

Asking what your favourite book is is simply saying what it is.

Recommending and asking what your favourite books are, are two different things completely.

It's quite simple. smile

You're foolish words can never hurt me

Re: Favorite books?

You're right Green, it is quite simple. But you got it wrong.

Recommending a book is TELLING what good books there are. Kind of like TELLING some one what your favorite books are. Its the same thing, just post your book list on the multitude of other book topics that already exist.

Re: Favorite books?

Well, you're not going to reccomend books you don't like.

Depends. Sometimes a book you read might have been more disturbing than good, and you might recommend it to somebody who'll enjoy something twisted...

"Lord of the Flies" has been one like that for me. Don't want to read it again, ever, but some could really like. I might tend to recommend it to my friends who like gory and twisted stuff.

Re: Favorite books?

Ugh, I hated Lord of the Flies, had to read that in freshman year and it was really twisted.
I really like the star wars books, and the Eragon series.  I think the Harry Potter books were a lot better than the movies, and I was pretty in to them a while back.  I read a lot so I'm not sure what my absolute favorite book is but it's probably between star wars books and Eragon.

Re: Favorite books?

Eragon for me is mediocre.  Nothing terribly special but I still enjoy reading it.

Re: Favorite books?

the Timothy Zahn novels (they will never die!), Harry Potter (books way better than movies), Lord of the Rings (movies good, books better), Vampire Hunter D. i was bored of Lord of the Flies too, had to read it in 10th grade. plus i had a sucky teacher which made it worse. if anyone has ever read Catcher in the Rye, i think it was okay, but still good enough to fall asleep too. lots of cursing too (got banned a while ago too).

I have to agree with Sev. It really didnt do it for me. I think its because I had read the Dragonlance series and the Riftwar Saga before that, and those stories are like Eragon on steroids. CA, if youre a big Eragon fan, you would fall in love with those books.

I heard the Eragon movie wasn't too good, but the books were great, waiting for the next one in september

Re: Favorite books?

Eh, haven't read Eragon... not into them really. I like LotR... but not my absolute favorite. That would be hands down On the Road By Jack Kerouac.

Re: Favorite books?

Yeah, the movie sucked, but the books were decent. I enjoy the story--not the most original plot, in some ways (very basic ways), but a pretty good story. And yeah, I'm looking forward to it too. I'm with Sev on that.

LoTR's great, Ted Dekker's stuff is great, Zahn's stuff is great.

I'll shock you by saying I love Karen Traviss's stuff. Isaac Asimov is a great Sci-fi author, too.

Ah yeah, the movie was horrible but I agree with waiting on the next book.  LotR is always great, good movie and books

Re: Favorite books?

Werda has hit the nail on the head! Asimov is the king of sci-fi! The Foundation Saga was the highlight, followed by The Gods themselves, Little lost Robot and Caves of Steel! I also loved Farmer Giles of Ham by Tolkien and Memnoch by Anne Rice. Starwars wise, Zahn is great and the B.H Trilogy was good too! Harry Potter also gets and mention cause they are great reads! On different genres, Fear and loathing in Las Vegas and The Hells Angels were great books by the late, great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson!!!!

" Hi!"

Re: Favorite books?

The Gods Themselves had a unsatisfying ending, but I loved the Foundation Saga, and "Caves of Steel" and The Naked Sun were great. But some of his other singles were very good, too.

Re: Favorite books?

Yeah I can't understand why you get "Lord of the Flies" so early in school. It's quite twisted indeed. Not really for young minds I'd say. Probably sucks to have to analyze it.

Here we tend to have local "classics" in school, stuff that was written like 100 years ago. Makes it a bit boring because you can't relate to the characters or setting. Too far away in time.

Re: Favorite books?

We just got Les Miserables and Animal Farm to do over the summer.  That's what I get for being smart.  Anyway.  Finished Animal Farm.  I found it quite funny.  Haven't started Les Miserables yet.

Re: Favorite books?

I will add in later but there are a lot of Star Wars books that I think are fantastic. The ones that I can think of for now are the X-Wing series, The first book in the Coruscant nights trilogy,  shadows of the Empire, anything by Timothy Zahn.

I also love nineteen eighty four by George Orwel (such a dark book)

The Hobbit and the Lord of the rings.

Lastly the Harry Potter books (so much better than the films)

Re: Favorite books?

The X-Wing series were amazing, but I didn't know that the Coruscant nights series had a book out.

LOL I developed a crush on Corran Horn after reading the X-Wing books. I really want to read more about him and his children big_smile
