Topic: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Well, just saw Ironman. I thought it was damn good. BUT...not good enough for the hype (sp?). It was a really fun movie, and it took a comic book movie into a direction that most of the comic movies should do: FUN. Most of the comic book films are going with the darker side. (With Batman it suits him of course so no problem there). I felt that with this movie, instead of having a super serious super hero movie, they made it into a fun movie and were serious when necessary.

I thought Robert Downey Jr. made the perfect Tony Stark, but the film had the same problem that the Ironman comics did...a shaky foe. The antagonist in this case was Stark's partner, but he didnt really fit an EVIL character that well. He was just...bad, but not very sinister and evil.

Of course I also would have liked to see more Ironman moments. More of Ironman doing what Ironman does. But it was the first movie, so I can just pass it off as Ironman needing more of an introduction this time around. The sequel, I hope, should have alot more action, gadgets and fighting.

Over all the movie was still pretty cool. They didnt mess up the Ironman suit, it is freaking extremely cool and I want one. They stuck to Ironman's origins pretty well. The funny parts were funny, the serious parts were serious, and the action scenes were....actiony. So it was a great movie...but some part of me feels that theres something missing. (any thoughts) More on that later.

The fact that at the end, Stark reveals to the press that he is Ironman may be something that pisses off alot of ppl...but I'm ok with it. Its not something very wise in Stark's shoes, but they did well with the movie so lets just see how it plays out. Have faith ppl.

So...what do you think?

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

HEY ME TOO!

I did think it was FUN, though I thought it needed more action for my taste.

I think the reveal at the end is in line with the character they had developed through out the movie. A character that I agree that was played wonderfully by Downy Jr.

i think i will post more later when I am not so sad

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Just got back from the movies, and I would definately rank it as one of the greatest super hero movies (only to be surpassed by Dark Knight in a few months). I thought Downy was perfect, and I disagree with you Valthonin about the villian. I think the best villians come from those who the hero trusts, making them vulnerable.

And about him revealing his identity to the press, I think that has to do with the new story line in the comics where Stark leads the alliance that feels all the super heroes should reveal their identities to the government.

Ps. Anybody watch after the credits rolled? Samuel L. Jackson =Nick Fury !! wooo

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Yes, good movie. I saw it 8:00 May 1st at a prescreening yay!!1! It was a great movie, stayed fairly close to the comics as far as his origins, and yes, in the comics he does reveal that he is Iron Man, but a few years later. So that was accurate. Robert Downey did a great job, and I'm excited to see the Avengers in action!!! Although, I'm afraid that it will be bad because there are so many backstories to all the Avengers it would take half the movie to tell it and non-fans would be confused. But, once again, good movie.

The fact that he was close to Stark is a good point, but I still think he was weak as a villain. He didnt seem like a truly evil character, just a greedy one.

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

it was still a freakin' awesome movie, and i can't wait for it to come out on DVD, so instead i'll just watch it via internet big_smile

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Yes, saw it for my second time tonight.  tongue  The thing is with this movie, they smashed in so much of the comics into a 2 and a bit hour movie.  They spanned several Iron Man time periods from the beginning to about 2002 when he officially let everyone know of his identity.  But the special effects were amazing (done by ILM of course) and it was a great movie over all.  Still debating whether Spider-man is better.

Throughout the entire movie I was wondering if there was an acronym for the whole Stragetic Homeland etc etc.

Then at the end I was like OOHHH!!

And I can't say I was too happy with Stane being a partner as opposed to a rival.  But it worked out quite well in the end.

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

yeah, the revelation about S.H.I.E.L.D. was awesome, even if it was originally a mix of military and superheros (correct me if I'm wrong.) As to the baddy, I had been wondering if it'd be the Mandarin, cus that's his classic foe.

The Spidey movies might be better, but I have to like Ironman better--the best suit EVER. He'd DESTROY the Bat.

Downey Jr. did a great job for Stark though.

And what happened after the credits rolled?

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

ha, hope that's gonna be good.

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Even though Mandarin is the classic foe I'd think he'd throw in an element that not a lot of casual movie goers would enjoy in an action movie like this.  His magic is cool and all but not a lot of people would like tech vs. magic.

So that brings up another question, who else are they going to cast as villains?  Mandarin is the obvious other choice but they would first need to set up some sort of magical element before introducing him full on.  Rumours are that the main actors have signed on for another two movies.

But MA and I were theorizing.  An Avengers movie would be cool, but that would have to wait until after a Cap movie, and a Thor movie, etc.

And possibly after that I thought Secret Wars would be crazy.  Maybe not the same exact characters, or the same plot, but it would be crazy to take all the main supers and villains and plop them in one giant battleground.  Of course you could have someone like the Beyonder as the main villain.  Whaat do you think?

Well if you watched after the credits in Iron Man Nick Fury says he wants to talk about, "The Avenger" project.

And a Thor movie as well as a Captain America movie are already slated for 2009 releases. So I would say that an avengers movie is on the way.

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Yes I'm saying the Avengers would be cool.  Who would be the members though?

Obviously Iron Man.  I wouldn't mind the New Avengers.  Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Cage, Spider-man and Thor even though he technically isn't a new Avenger.

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

so, Avengers for late 09, early 10? probably 10, because i heard that Cap. America won't come out until somewhere around september 09.

EDIT: idk if anyone else noticed, but 2008 seems to be the year for hero movies. there's Iron Man, Indiana Jones, Batman, Hulk, Punisher all coming out this year, and they seem promising (obviously Iron Man and Indiana Jones are).

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Avengers would be late 2010 I think.

One of the older Avengers, unmentioned, was Hawkeye. But he's not well known.

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

I have the solid dates for Iron Man 2 (April 2010), Thor (July 2010), Captain America (May 2011), and Avengers (July 2011). Excited? I am. Now spread it around the interwebs like wildfire!

Re: Ironman (SPOILERS AHEAD)

I enjoyed the movie, it was fun and Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect mr. Stark. He really really is Stark. The suit looks very slick, the action was good, but not really what I expected. The fights weren't as intense as I hoped it to be, but this is the first movie so a lot of time was spent on introducing all the characters and the development of Stark becoming Iron Man. Overall it's a very entertaining movie, one of the best comic based movies. Doesn't beat spidey though!
