Daphne and Loxley walked down Maxwell Street and the vampire coven was easy to spot for anyone looking for it. A cool breeze blew and Daphne lifted her nose. Yep, there are definitely vampires here, she thought to herself.
“Are you sure about this?†Loxley questioned as they walked to the front door.
“Not really but we need to ask,†Daphne said she knocked on the large wooden door.
A large vampire opened the door and immediately raised a magnum.
Daphne raised her hands, “We’re only here to talk.â€Â
“Well I ain’t the talking type,†the vampire said and opened fire.
Daphne ducked and Loxley neatly blew the vampire’s head off with his shotgun. “Access granted,†Loxley said smugly.
“That wasn’t really how I wanted to do things,†Daphne started.
Loxley shrugged, “He fired first.â€Â
“Good point,†Daphne replied as she stepped over the body. Not surprisingly there were six vampires awaiting them inside.
Daphne raised a hand, “We only want to speak to D. Your guard opened fire first.â€Â
A pale faced woman with black hair stepped forward, “He was doing his job.â€Â
Daphne decided to get to the point, “We know what’s killing both vampires and werewolves alike. I’m sure you’ve found your own in a mummified state with red eyes.â€Â
That got the attention of a male standing at the top of stairs, “Come to admit your crimes have you?â€Â
Daphne shook her head, “Such work is that of a demon.â€Â
The male raised a brow, “That’s not surprising, call one up you couldn’t handle?â€Â
“We’re not into that voodoo crap,†Loxley snarled.
“Keep your guard dog gagged,†the male vampire said as he descended the stairs. “So you want to speak to D about this. What makes you think he doesn’t already know?â€Â
“Because the demon isn’t dead yet,†Daphne replied coolly.
The male vampire laughed, “Well that’s true I suppose. So what do you propose to do?â€Â
Daphne tilted her head slightly, “We were hoping that D could confirm one of his talents that may just help in getting rid of these demons.â€Â
“Wait did you just say demons? As in more than one?†The male asked looking ever paler.
“Yes, there’s more than one. That’s why I want to speak with D.†Daphne told getting somewhat impatient.
“D’s out, he’ll be back later.†The male told.
“Fine, tell him to meet me at the Murk Motel at 2am. Then we can talk,†Daphne said as she headed for the door. Loxley glared at the vampires.
“I’ll pass on the message, if D gets back in time.†The male vampire assured them.
Daphne gave a nod and left, Loxley followed her closely.
“So what now?†Loxley asked as they cautiously moved away from the coven.
Daphne shrugged, “I guess we wait.â€Â
Loxley smiled, "May I suggest dinner?"
