I dunno, I read the comic before I watched the movie (twice, so far), and the movie kinda lacks suspense. The sub-plot with Queen Gorgo only serves for downtimes, that are misplaced in that movie - not to mention nothing like that was in the comic. I'd rather have seen Ephialtes handled like he was in the comic (in the movie he just threw his spear down the rock), because this way, you don't really know what "this cripple" is doing in the movie (if you don't know the comic). The addition of the captain's son was imho one of the only additions that I liked... the other variations from the comic rather bugged me. On the other hand, I'm sure we'll see fan-edits of that movie that cut all non-comic parts once the DVD's out.
I know this sounds kinda like I didn't like the movie; it's not. The action scenes and visuals are among the best to see in a movie, and safe for the points mentioned above, this was indeed the comic, just in motion. Every single frame of the movie is an incredible artistic piece of its own, it's just stunning.
Overall, I think the storytelling could be handled better, but everything else couldn't have been done better by anyone else.
