The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3

Not a fan of wasting 2/3 of the episode on a plot that was part of another show! If only Gina Carano hadn't gone off the deep end we wouldn't have to deal with this issue. It's not a bad episode per se, it was quite good actually but it should've focused more on Din and Bo. Hopefully Boba shows up soon.....

I've been reading posts and articles from people saying this episode is just what the series needed and helps set up the connection to the sequel trilogy, etc.  I have to vehemently disagree.  The more these new series have distanced themselves from the sequel trilogy, the better they've been.  So far, they just haven't really mentioned it, alluded to it, or anything.  It's just been what's left of the Empire trying to recoup what little power they have left and the stories themselves have been mostly character driven and about what's happening to them in their little corner of the galaxy. 

I understand trying to throw in info about what's been happening to other characters in the bigger arena, but they focused on the Doctor and Coruscant too much for too long.  It would've felt better if they broke the story up and had a little more story and friction between Bo Katan and the Covert, then go back to the Doctor again.  When Djarin casually told Bo Katan that things would go more smoothly if she kept her helmet on, I was honestly half expecting her to remove it right from the get-go to openly show her disdain for this particular sect.  I was really surprised she didn't remove it, when asked who she was and she cocked her head in an almost "excuse me, don't you don't know who I am?" kind of fashion. 

Pushing all the way through the Doc's story all at once made the episode feel like it just plodded along.  Aside from the obvious chase at the beginning (still love those Kom'rk starfighters), the best part of the episode was the "it's a trap" exclamation by the doctor to the Mon Calamari and the long pause and stare.  I was half expecting the "ba dum tss" of a drum rimshot from the background after that one.

To me, this had to be the worst episode, so far.  I would've given it two out of five stars, and that's being exceedingly generous.  I did think it was neat they mentioned "Taungsday."  Considering the Taungs were the original inhabitants of Coruscant and were the original Mandalorians, before they started letting other species become Mandalorians.  It was also pretty neat to see the peak of Umate in live action.  I remember it showing up a few times in the Clones Wars cartoon.
