covermeporkins, please continue with the points you want to make.
Let's look at just some of the positive:
- There's a 7-episode show about Boba Fett on right now – he's on billboards, on the radio, etc.
- The quantity of collectibles is way up, many of which are nice
- We just had a massive comic book series with a bit of Boba
- All kinds of storytellers are involved, giving a wider variety of takes
- Last year, we had the wrap-up of a two season series based of course on a character Din Djarin who is basically the OG Boba Fett "light" - masked, bounty hunter, etc.
- Interest in BFFC is at an all time high per year for the last two years, versus the year to year in our 25 year history online
Not defending the bad choices, but these things can't be ignored.
I agree! I'm all for the Boba interest! But...did more information regarding Boba ...kill the mystery of the character? I would argue once they showed Boba as a little kid much of the magic was gone. Look at the characters he's based off the gunslinger. And look at other characters that come after. Snake Plisken. Judge Dredd. Snake Eyes. All (depending on the timeline) shrouded in mystery.

George Lucas lifted the mystery in 2002 with "Attack of the Clones," when we saw two Fetts unmasked. But this topic is about Disney. Can you elaborate what they did to ruin Boba specifically in your opinion? No wrong answers, but helpful to stay on topic. ;-)
I do believe it is somewhat good and somewhat bad what they have done. The version we have now is an interesting amalgamation. I mean this doesn't help though..
It seems premature to me to answer this question.
What is certain is that Disney brought back a character officially dead since 1983. And gave him importance.
Just for that, thank you.
For the rest, we will see
IDK did you see Episode 5....:(

"Ruined" is too strong a term for me. The series has been well done, but my expectations were probably unrealistically high, leading to me feeling underwhelmed at points. I wouldn't say Boba Fett was "ruined" like Luke Skywalker; Luke was just straight up killed. Boba Fett is still ripe for being utilized in different projects and being interpreted in different ways. There's plenty of possibilities left.
I was expecting to see an in depth arc for how Boba changed to the character we saw in the Mandalorian. We saw a bit of that, but then he was made even more heroic. It was a little frustrating to see Boba Fett brought back to universal praise in the Mandalorian in a manner that felt compatible with his original trilogy characterization, only to see that character changed again for BoBF.
It's not fair to play the blame game when every talent associated with the show has proven themselves before; this time just didn't quite hit the mark. I especially have a lot of love for Temuera Morrison returning. I don't think he gets enough credit for distinguishing Jango, OT Boba, and post-sarlacc Boba as all different characters. It's frustrating to hear in interviews that he lobbied to reduce Boba's dialogue and keep him more mysterious; in this case, it's easy to see where Tem was in the right and the director was in the wrong. Also not sure whose call it was to have him remove his helmet so much. I can understand actors that require their face be shown a certain amount of time, and how that's problematic for a masked character.
Don't get me wrong, I love the series and can't wait for the finale, but this is just me venting about some of my nitpicks.
Yes, Disney ruined Boba Fett.
ChloeSamba1991, please feel free to elaborate with specific issue(s).
The thing about retconning the Expanded Universe is that they've got to crank out content that surpasses the stuff they scrapped. Most of Boba's history and character were formed in the Expanded Universe, so I think it felt weird to just catch up where we saw him between RotJ and Mando, and then to just cement him as crime lord (which we already assumed he'd be at the end of Mando S2).
I don't know if it's just me, but when I heard the show was going to be called The Book of Boba Fett, I thought it would be more encompassing of his entire life, and I assumed he would be in every episode. I really hope they give us more Boba going forward instead of throwing him back into the Mandoverse as a side character, and that they take fan opinions into account. Temuera Morrison was outstanding as Boba and I really want to see more of him.
Maybe next time we can see Boba's life pre-ESB?
Well said, likeabantha!
Pre-ESB would be an excellent era for more stories. There have been a few set back then, but for live-action canon it would be great. Unlikely, but great.
Season 2 (yet to be announced, but seems likely) will surely include Tem and Ming-Na.
