Topic: Was Han a stormtrooper?

I am sorry if this question is not for this fourm but maybe someone here can help settle a debate.

A fellow geek told me that Han Solo was at one time a stormtrooper for the Empire before he became a smuggler.He could not remeber what Expanded Universe book he read it in.But he swears he read it somewhere.
Me,I have not gotten to the point of reading the expanded universe books.Well not yet atleast.The Han form the books might have been but the Han from the movies well I have not seen Lucas leading me to think it.
I have been under the impression that Han knew how the Empire worked becasue of his smuggling adventures.

Could someone please help settle this debate.

In The Han Solo Trilogy by Ann C. Crispan Han was indeed a Stormtrooper. He joined the Empire for a little while, and that's why he met Chewie. They had Wookiee slaves and one was Chewie and someone else was whipping Chewie, and Han didn't like that so he rescued Chewie. Han got thrown out of the Empire for that. And Chewie decided he owed Han a life debt for that so he followed Han around. And at first Han didn't like that and tried to make Chewie go away. But Chewie struck around anyway so he finally let him stay and they became friends.

I thought he was a stormtrooper once. But not for long. I dont really know the whole story, but I guess you guys just told me huh? :/

I read in a book that was basically a Star Wars dictionary that Han Solo was an Imperial Officer that was stationed on Kashyyk at some point and then saved Chewie. You guys could be right that he was a stormtrooper but I'm just putting it out there.

You gotta read the Han Solo Trilogy, they were great books! :D

Don't worry about that, it wasn't that humiliating, and it wasn't actually a fight so much as a surprise from behind with a stun beam from Lando.  i reccomend you read it.

Ok i might try it soon possibly after Bloodlines. Im planning on getting Bloodlines tomorrow :P.

I've only got the last book of that trilogy...my brother threw it into a pond, and it was a library book, so I got to keep it.  :P 

But I would definetely reccomend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet...it's a great trilogy, especially the second book.

Yeah but books are rather hard to read once they're water damaged, the pages get wonky and stick together.

Yes, and that was my favorite part.  I seem to recall them threatening to force him to go to a bar and dance on a table, but maybe I just made that up.  No, seriously, that part was great.

We mananged to dry it out in time. :P  It's very wrinkly and has mold-spots in it, but it's readable.

I like the part at the beginning with the sabacc game...I've always wanted to try and play sabacc, but I'd need an interference field and cards that can change value in your hands.  :(

I thought he was a pilot or something for the Imperial Navy... Maybe it was just my automatic association with pilot and navy rather than footsoldier and navy.  Did he actually complete the academy or did he cut out part way through because of what happened with Chewie?  it's been so long since I've read those books.

Yeah, he was, he escaped when he saved chewie and killed some trooper

I thought he trained as a pilot alongside fellow correllian Soontir Fel.

I don't think Han had ever met Soontir Fel when he was in the Empire. It seems to me he was a regular stormtrooper.
