For those of us who like the idea of Fett's morality as described in "The Last One Standing" (i.e. no drinking, drugs, or extramarital affairs), what do you think could be its source? Who did he learn his moral code from? Did Jango share it with him, or was Jango more of a free spirit? Is it the traditional moral code of Concord Dawn, or of Mandalore? Or perhaps, did Boba get it from someone/somewhere outside of his family?
Personally, I think that Jango didn't share the moral code. He seems much less uptight, probably due to Temuera Morrison's own personality.

Yeah, I think Boba's much stricter with himself than Jango is.
I always figured Boba decided what was the safest way to stay alive. Drinking or drugs would cause him to loosen up, lower his guard, and then if he was attacked he couldn't shoot straight. The un-married stuff, I thought, had to do with loyalty, like, no sleeping around. Or maybe it has to do with, if he started going with any girl who walked by eventually an assassin would get to him and get him down with one good kick and then shoot him, and he doesn't want that to happen.
But otherwise, I'm not sure if it's a Mandalorian thing or not.

Well, the no drinking/no drugs is for obvious reasons, he doesn't want to screw up his mind/body with that crap. It's possible that he's seen what alcohol and drugs do to people from his travels.
As for not marrying... maybe he's afraid of loss? It's reasonable considering that he lost his father at a young age and doesn't want to risk going through that again. It's a possibility...
I think Boba would see drinking, drugs and sex as weakness. He sees the creatures around him submitting and crumbling under the power of such "vices" so therefore he obstains. Plus sex could end up in either the birth of a child or love of a woman that could be used as leverage against him.
It was like thousands of voices cried out for a sequel and were suddenly silenced...
I think now with the info on the Mandalorians out there, his 'code' (no sex, drugs, or rock and roll) fits with his cultural background. I think it is partially an issue of weakness, don't play into vice or vice will play you. I think the no sex is partly cultural, partly a safety device. I agree a woman or family could be used against him. Also, they would need him, rely on him. I forget what story it was: a short one where he confronts Solo and they're both old codgers, and he's amazed that Solo would leave his family who needed him to act like a fool. I think losing his father at a young age made him keenly aware of a parents responsibility to family, and the real price of loss.

I agree with the people who posted above. He is a wise fellow. That is how I always imagined his morality, and I haven't read that comic... He doesn't need happiness or things disguised as happiness (drugs, alchohol, sex, ect, ect...) to keep him running. He does things for the money. And he is smmart, hhe is aware some of those things could hinder his abilities, or even kill him. They would leave him open for attack, or control him. Boba does not want to be controlled by one of these things. He said once, "The one that angers you owns you." If something else owned him, he wouldn't even need that phrase.
Didn't anyone notice him hanging out with the ladies in ROTJ:SE in Jabbas Palace? He seemed to like the attention he got there and didn't go out of his way to stay in the shadows...

That was a touch of fancy added by the actor playing him in that role. Actually, if I remember correctly, it wasn't even an actor, but one of the crew. He was qouted in an article as adding those bits all on his own. Our boy Jeremy was not in the suit for that scene.
Also, I think he kept up a good front. In the books, where Jaba sends Leia to his room, he doesn't send her back because he doesn't want ot piss off Jaba. Fett knows how to play games. What's really going on behind the bucket, who knows?

Correct, part of the crew for R2-D2: Don Bies. You can read about him in our Behind the Mask section.

Oh, yes, Boba hates weakness, I think anyway. And anything immoral like that is a weakness. I didn't think of that before.
And, the story where old-Boba and old-Han meet up is Tales of the Bounty Hunters, I think.
And, about Boba with Rystall, Jeremy said he didn't like that at all and that Boba's more the type to push her away than to touch her chin, or something like that.

Hey did anyone think that maybe Fett was measuring up Rystall for her coffin? Perhaps he was seeing how long a coffin she'd need after being decapitated. :P
It was like thousands of voices cried out for a sequel and were suddenly silenced...
hehe, I like that idea. Then he'd toss the coffin into the sarlacc? :P

Miba's right about the chin-tap. I've got the video on my computer. Jeremy Bulloch said something along the lines of "I don't think Boba would do that," and then Temuera Morrison chimed in and said "I would." ;)

Chrys, would you mind uploading the video if you still have it? Sounds kinda humourous... as much as I don't like the whole Boba Fett flirting scene. Everytime I watch the movie with my brother he calls Boba a 'pimp' when we see that scene. >< And when I try to explain the truth, he just says I'm jealous. -_-;;
Anyway, everyone here has a really good evaluation of Boba Fett's morals. :)

I think Karen Traviss' aticle about Mandalorian culture in the recent Star Wars Insider article kind of answers the question of where he got a lot of his moral code from. It sounds like it's pretty much a Mandalorian cultural thing.
"I'm just a simple Fan, trying to make my way in the universe."

Chrys, would you mind uploading the video if you still have it?
I got it from theforce.net: Temuera Morrison and Jeremy Bulloch at the Sci-Fi Expo
Part 5 is the section where they talk about the Special Editions. It doesn't take very long to download the whole thing, but if you're in a hurry, I would definitely suggest Part 7 (Tem sings), Part 8 (Tem does the "haka"), and Part 9 (Tem and Jeremy fight to see whether Boba or Jango would win. Tem yells "Who's your daddy? Who's your daddy?" It's classic.)
BFFC Moderator
Hahahaha, ah yes, the "Who's your daddy". Classic indeed! XD Yeah, I think Boba tries to eliminate as many weaknesses as he possibly can. Its pretty ingenius too how he thinks of other weaknesses others wouldn't, like scent (ie the scene near the end of The Mandalorian Armour with the Shell Hutts.)
Cool movie Chrys! I will have to watch some more of it...
(EDIT: Sorry the post is so short and useless, I did have more to say but I changed my mind after saying it...)
I remember reading somewhere that when Jango died, he had a book that Boba should take in case he ever found himself alone in the universe, i think its was called the Black Book, or something

Yeah, that was in the Boba Fett scholastic book series. :)
I'm 2/3 of the way through that series. They're ok, but a little uneven.
But the current issue of Star Wars Insider (#86) is highly recommended. It's on newsstands now. I got mine at Barnes and Noble. The art is great. Female Mandalorians!

I just got mine Friday, and wow is it crazy. Mandalorian wedding vows? Who would have thought? And it does shed a lot of light on the morality. Apparently all of Boba's rules are Mandalorian tradition, except for drinking. Mandalorians like various kinds of alcohol, according to the article.

I wouldn't think off him as a drinker, besides, he might have taken that sense of wanting alcohal when he had all those nerves and things taken out of him.
When did he have nerves removed? o_0
And it is really very easy to avoid wanting to drink. I've never had any sorta wanting to drink, and I don't think I ever will.

I think I read that in "The Mandalorian Armor". I am not positive though...
Something like that, he had a whole bunch of pain nerves and some pleasure nerves removed by the best black market mirosurgens there are.
I think that Boba Fett succeded at trying to make himself better and with a stronger will by keeping his unneeded activity at a minimum. He saw his father destroyed.....and was determined not to allow any weaknesses so he could carry on in his father's place. There is that scene where he flirts with the dancer......but i think that is about as far as he ever goes. Every guys likes to flirt every now and then.......girls are there to admire....ya know....lol

Lies. All lies. It mentions in The Mandalorian Armor that he had some smell receptors removed. Therefore he didn't get high on the Shell Hutt Happy Plants, this being the purpose he had intended. A person needs pain nerves, for one thing. For another there's only four kinds of feeling nerves: hot, cold, pressure, and pain. Pleasure would typically be a result of pressure. Or such is my understanding.
And as for Boba's morality, it's my understanding that this is part of Mandalorian culture. In one Star Wars Insider, it mentions ettiquite for mingling with the Mandalorians. Most of this was simple (remove your boots when entering their homes, never refuse the offer for food or drink, etc). But they made one point very clear, and I quote: "NEVER make a pass at a Mando'ad of either sex unless you intend to offer marriage and become Mando." Therefore we can safely assume that dating around is simply not done, and the concept of a one-night stand repulsive among the Mandalorians. And Boba Fett is Mando. Jango Fett was Mando. Therefore, Boba would have grown up with Mandalorian principles and morals and has clearly carried them into adulthood.
Okay, ramble over... *blushes*

Yeah, the Insider pretty much sums it all up. And perhaps it may explain the whole Jango-Zam thing a little bit. As for the pain receptors, they're necessary to human survival. I read a book by Phillip Yancey on pain a while back, and he had several chapters discussing how leprosy causes a lack of feeling. People who can't feel pain will abuse their bodies without knowing it, and will eventually have permanent damage (such as losing fingers or entire hands, etc.) Being an intelligent person, Fett would know of this danger and would never be so foolish as to have his pain receptors removed. (btw...yes! I finally hit five stars!)

I saw something something on the news about a little girl who coud not feel pain. She nearly poked her eye out a few times without knowing it. Congradulations Chrys!
I agree with Sarin. And Chrys, yes. And, Draco, I think I heard about that girl too.

Somebody agrees with me? Holy cow!
I didn't hear the report about the girl. Anyone got a link to an article or something?
Yep. :D I agree with you. And it sounded like Chrys did too. Anyway, you said it much better than I could have, lol.
And, sorry, I don't have a link to the article cause I saw it a long time ago and only in passing. I'm not even sure what site it was on.

Take off your boots before entering house? One of my friends is Japanesse and I have to do that every time I go to her house-she'll think that's really cool.
Marriage vows?Dang I really need to find that arcticle!
So like marrige is kinda like,if you've read Shabanu you'll know what I'm talking about, arranged?Harsh.

I don't know about Boba being stricter than Jango. If you read the comic series simply entitled "Jango Fett," the one where he has to get an Idol from an ugly walrus like creature, you may remember that a dancing girl tried to flirt with Jango, but he gave her the brush off. Remember?
{MW} SF
I remember that. He said he didn't have time, maybe later though. Boba wouldn't have even replied. :P Besides, by that time Jango had Zam. ;)

Boba code was passed down from mandalorian traditions and Jango was looser because of the war and everything but boba said
"look where he ended up! I'm not slacking off one bit"
AAAAAH A SPIDER^ KILL IT! KILL IT!!!

Zapped.
"I'm just a simple Fan, trying to make my way in the universe."
It does say in a book about Boba's early life that Jango was the one who tought him the code. Boba probably modified to fit his own standards.
I just don't like the added silly and unnecessary special edition crap in Return of the Jedi with Boba Fett flirting with those dancers. The filmmakers should've filmed an additional scene of Boba Fett crawling out of the sarlacc pit!
