Princess Leia started it with her dual buns, but why do you think SW female characters had to have such wild hairdos?

Surely a serious senator would want to spend her time making a difference rather than doing her hair. What are your thoughts?

When I was younger and had my long hair, I always wanted to crazy and wild things with it. Then the prequels came out and I saw what I never managed to do, all those intricate hairstyles and headpieces. I think hair is part of the fantasy of Star Wars.

I've read that the hair was traditional in nature. So in effect it was part of Leia's senatorial work, like part of ones character or out showing of one's values as a senator.

Padme's hair was crazy as well, most of her hairdos were ugly looking in my opinion.

Totally!  Those Naboo queens were just weird.  There was more hair then girl!!!  I kept waiting for them to tip over and fall!!!  :D :P  And to make it worse, those hair-doos were really bad  :P

So it would appear that I am alone in liking the crazy hair......

Not alone Si Titran. I liked some of them too. Some I didn't, like Leia's buns.

I love their hair. I have really long hair so I sometimes like to do some of them. The ones I do the best that look good on me are the Leia-Bespin one and the Padme-Tatooine-TPM one. My hair's not thick enough for Leia buns. And while I can do Leia's Hoth hair, I end up looking not very SW-y and more foreign, because I'm sorta blondish.

I personally love the hair-dos. Instead of the usual crown that distinguishes Royalty from the others, they have outstanding hair-dos. It's just something different I like.

Would you want to mess with someone who was willing to walk around with hair like that?

Yea I love Spaceballs, it is hilarious. Of course the members of my family who aren't in to Star Wars didn't get half the movie lol ;). Good thing it spoofed more than Star Wars then.

And of course there's a Bon Jovi song in it ;)

Its funny you mention family with Spaceballs, as my mother HATES that movie. She just doesn't think its funny. I also first found that movie by chance one afternoon by finding it on tv. Good stuff.

Back to hair... why is Luke blonde and Liea a brunette? And why aren't there more blondes in general in the SW universe?

I guess Luke's blonde and Leia's brunette cause that's how they were born. :P But, yeah, I wonder that too. Why aren't there more blondes? I think there's more in the EU than in the movies though. It doesn't very much bother me, it just makes me curious.

Hmm I'd never really thought about it, but I'd consider Luke blonde at least in the ANH and TESB, his hair was a lot darker in ROTJ.

I suppose Padme's handmaidens had to be brunettes for the whole "disguise" bit.

Thats right! And what is funny about that is the fact that I had no idea at all it was them. My mom was giving me a crash course on Bon Jovi songs before we went to the concert and I recognized "Raise Your Hands" but I didn't know why. My 10 year old brother comes in and says "That is the song from Spaceballs!". I laughed pretty hard at the fact that my younger brother knew that....and I didn't lol.

Back to hair. Luke is kind of dirty blonde...maybe there are blonde roots on Padme's side of the family.

But is it supposed to be dirty? Take a shower once in a while Luke, come on!

I know I've seen some blondes in EU.

I can think of two blondes in EU. If there are more please correct me. I would actually rather be wrong in this instance. I can think of Callista and Juno Eclipse. Who else?

..... considering Anakin is blonde I would assume the blonde roots lay with Anakin's side of the family.

As for other blondes. In TPM one of Padme's handmaidens is blonde. Wynessa Starflare (Wedge's sister, I can never remember her real name) is blonde. Tahiri is blonde. I can't remember her name, but the scientist lady in Vector Prime is blonde, I don't know why I can't remember her name, but she's in other NJO too.

Yes. He's blonde. He gets much darker as he gets older, though, and by ROTS it's more of a very dark blonde. But when he was a kid it was deffinately blonde, and even in AOTC it's still blondish.

I think the hairdos are made to look medeval as part of the long, long ago bit. Plus there is something sociaiogical about the higher up you are the more inconvenient the ornamentation is. Yes Padme's handmaidens would have to look alot like her.  Otherwise, I do not see why there aren't more blondes except for Annakin. By the way, wasn't Luke's hair actually light brown instead of blonde?

Luke was a sorta blondish in ANH but not so much after that. I think some of it had to do with living on Tatooine, the sun might have made the light brown look more blonde.

Possibly the same for Anakin to some extent?

The old sun bleached blonde eh? :P

I think the darkening of Anakin's hair was to make him look more sinister. As for Luke, well maybe Yoda convinced him to get a rinse :P

I think they're AWSOME. To tell you the truth, that one that kinda looked like the leia buns but had a head peice behind them. And on her forhead. I've wore that to one of my school dances, and people liked it. If no one agrees that they're cool, there aren't many creative people around anymore...
