Let him be how ever he wants to be. Let him be himself....just make sure he isn't cutting himself.

Excellent  advice val, If he wants to be emo what are you going to do about it? what can you do about it? As long as he isnt hurting himself, let him be

Emo is ok to be. A cutter is not good. If that is the case then I say that you tell someone more qualified to help with out betraying their trust.

Why emo cuts himself? Why not paper?

Well he cut himself. He has been going back in forth lately I not sure if he WANTS to be Emo.
He cuts himself with pencils. I hope I can convince him to come out of it.

Ahhh......I have emo friends aswell. I'm not sure if they cut themselves but, here are three of them , Ollie, Will and Kieran.

AA, is right. If he isn't cutting himself, that is good news, but if he is.....then you need to make him come from ze darkness. :| :)

( How can you cut yourself with a pencil. I thought they did it with those silver aluminum razor blades? )

Thats what I have asked him. He shugs

Has anything happened in his life that could have made him turn this way? Something bad? Maybe find out what it is and then help him through it. Or is there a girl he likes that's emo and he's being this way to try and get with her? Maybe help him look for someone else.

Just thoughts and ideas.

I don't know on the cutting, maybe try telling him scars are ugly or the pencils could poison him or tell him how much it upsets you that he does this. Or show him this thread? Maybe that will show him how much you care and it'll help.

Reality doesn't care if you believe in it.

I was about to say that modern pencils are made from graphite ( a natural mineral) and are practically harmless, unlike the old school lead versions which were not.

Try to encourage other ways to vent, which is what my friend who once was a cutter said her cutting was. She wasn't trying to kill herself, but rather release the negative feelings through the comfort of pain. She generally used sissors for this, not blades and on her legs, not her arms where her mom would noticed. She stopped around the time she got married. Cutting is generally something people hide, so if you know about what your friend is doing, it very well may be a cry for help.

Yes there has I talk to him quite a bit. But he has asked that I do not expose the information.
I am one of the only few he trusts.
I wish it to stay that way.
It seems know that all I can do is Pray and Might I ask a Favor from every body on the sight, Please, even if you don't believe,  pray for him.

Oh, that's fine, I understand about you not wanting to say what's going on. I would be the same way.

And I'll pray for him too. :)

It does help. And I'm sure God will do something about it.

Yes I know he will

May 16, 2008 6:24 am #

Such faith can only be good.  Being supportive as a friend can help too, knowing that someone IS there for them. But if you think that it is getting more serious, like closer to suicide thats when its ok to tell for their sake.

Its okay, he has been getting better

May 16, 2008 10:16 pm #

That's really good to hear.

The thing is, if he doesn't know if he wants to ' be ' emo, then maybe you should say something like.........

" If your not sure about being emo , then maybe you should just be your normal self. What do you think? "

Hey guys...

I consider myself something of an expert at my old age...lol

I take a lot of my own personal style and influences from punk, goth, and emo among other genres. Emo and goth don't make you  "bad"  o r  "evil" or "messed up" its just a personal style that is used as expression. As it was for "Rock n roll" in the 50's, "Folk" in the 60's, "disco" and "Rock" in the 70's, "punk" and "metal" in the 80's, and "Grunge" and "alt-rock" in the 90's, it was a way for the younger generation to rebel against the "screwed up" society that just didnt understand them...and to do it under a banner of brelonging and Brotherhood.

We all go through it in our lives. Nowadays its the resurgence of Goth, and the Emo movement that calls out for attention....unfortunately the younger one's are ill equipped to deal with all the "mess" left by our predessesors, and they're equally if not moreso, ill equipped to understand the source of our youth's anger.

It's up to those of us who do understand to extend ourselves as anchors and beacons to guide our tortured youth to safety in these increasingly harsh times.

Spread the love...

Lol.

I Like Goths better than Emo's. Dunno why.

I happen to love ONE particular Gothic Band.

Sisters of Mercy.

It does not mean I am, but that's just to let you know. :) ;)

Emo's have actually stolen a lot of the Goth stuff.

Eyeliner
Black lipstick
black nail varnish
ciggerates ( because they're depressed )
Black, Dark band clothes and jeans, etc........

There's one emo song, I kinda liked when I played Guitar Hero III.

Before I forget.

I know you'd like to close this...but I thought I'd drop some knowledge about the "Emo" culture

It isn't "cutting yourself" its more a movement, best defined by Wikkipedia as:

"Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a style of rock music which describes several independent variations of music with common stylistic roots. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon. (In more recent years, the term "emotive hardcore" entered the lexicon to describe the period.)

Starting in the mid-1990s, the term emo began to refer to the indie scene that followed the influences of Fugazi, which itself was an offshoot of the first wave of emo. Bands including Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is the Reason had a more indie rock style of emo, more melodic and less chaotic. The so-called "indie emo" scene survived until the late 1990s, as many of the bands either disbanded or shifted to mainstream styles. As the remaining indie emo bands entered the mainstream, newer bands began to emulate the mainstream style. As a result, the term "emo" became a vaguely defined identifier rather than a specific genre of music."

You can read what else is said @

For the sake of clear understanding, please read carefully...misinformation leads to ignorance. Ignorance won't change anything...

Music that you can't hear the words, they just scream , known as emo music  - " Screamo "

Which is dark. Not that I listen to it.......I'm just knoledgable! :)

Death metal, emo music, and screamo are not the same thing. Death metal is a form of heavy metal usually played extremely fast with gutteral vocals. Emo and screamo are formes of hardcore punk.

take it easy baby take it as it comes
