Dengar (sometimes known by the nickname Payback) is a former swoop-jockey come Imperial assassin turned Bounty Hunter. Received cybernetic implants into his brain following a crash in a swoop race with a young Han Solo - whom he went on too hate. The implants removed all feelings of compassion and mercy yet during one mission for the Empire Dengar deserted and became a bounty hunter, often working for Jabba. Was captured in the Hoth system by the Imperials during the Battle of Hoth whilst attempting to reach the surface and capture Solo, but following that battle Vader gave him the chance of a reprieve from his crime of desertion if he hunted down the Millennium Falcon and Solo (hence his being on the bridge of the SSD Executor). Dengar joined the other Bounty Hunters in the mission but the engines of his ship - The Punishing One were destroyed by a bomb placed by Boba Fett, leaving Dengar adrift unable to intervene as Slave 1 followed the Falcon to Cloud City.
Dengar was on Tattoine in Jabbas Palace when Luke, Leia, Chewie and the others rescued Han Solo, although he was not onboard Jabba's Sail-barge (you can spot him when Luke arrives, when Luke falls into the Rancor pit and when Luke, Han and Chewie are dragged before Jabba). Following Han's rescue Dengar arrived at the Sarlacc Pit in time to witness Boba Fett's emergence and with the aid of a Slave girl Fett had taken an interest in each time he was at Jabba's, nursed him back to health. For a short time he worked as a partner with Fett (often calling Fett Sarlacc food), with whom he developed a grudging respect. He even informed Fett of Jodo Kast's whereabouts after encountering Kast on a hunt.
Dengar's armour is bits of Stormtrooper, Sandtrooper and Snowtrooper armour and he carries a DL-44 pistol and Vulkan-38 blaster carbine - which is a cut-down German MG-42 machine gun (in ROTJ he carries an as yet unidentified carbine)
