Before the prequels came about Boba Fett's unknown past was touched lightly and it was said that he was Jaster Mereel from Concord Dawn, prior to becoming Boba Fett.
Now that the prequels are around this theory was completely destroyed and Boba Fett the clone has become the "true" origin.
However what if we messed about with it. What if a person named Jaster Mereel took clone Boba Fett's identity? Say Mereel was on the run from the law (as it was said he was supposed to be exiled from Concord Dawn) and decided to off clone Boba Fett and take his place - hence clearing his name and becoming one of the most fearsome bounty hunters in the galaxy. I'm thinking this would happen before clone Boba Fett was 17.
I always figured clone Boba Fett would have too much baggage to become the notorious bounty hunter we all know and love. Jaster Mereel could come from a much harsher background, hence the cold and calculating Boba as an adult.
So would you prefer the idea of an alternate reality from what Lucas created?

March 22, 2011 11:25 pm # I can't say I was ever a huge fan of either of the Lucas approved Boba versions, but if said-Jaster were to slot this punk kid that we have to endure since the prequals, I'm all for it XD

I was having this 'More Fett' or 'Less is More' disscusion AGAIN just the other day, and it always boils down to the same thing - there is no way to make the perfect backstory for Boba. Because of his mysterious nature in the early days of Star Wars, it not only bred the fasination with his character that we all have, but just as importantly created a million different backstorys in the minds of each of his fans. George just kinda threw him into the mix of a much bigger story and didn't give us anything to go on, therefore opening him up to our own fantasies of his past adventures and history. That's brilliant in it's own way, snaring our attention to his part in the story (and all his subsequent money making produts).
From that point on, like most everything SW, Lucas has pretty much shot himself in the foot time and again in trying to squeeze the last penny ouf of Boba. One backstory, scraped for another backstory, insert a bunch of garbage that nobody likes, and we've about killed every hope and dream for the character
The only way I can imagine Boba regaining that dark, mysterious persona would be your suggestion - have SOMEBODY (probably not Jaster since HE'S been rerouted into Jango's backstory) kills the punk, takes his identity, and becomes the bounty hunter we knew and loved

I actually like that we know a bit more about the REAL story of Boba Fett, personally. Firstly: Once he gets over being a brat kid and figures out that the universe isn't going to be very nice to him, and dawns/repaints Jango's armor, no one but a select few will actually KNOW him. Take a real good look at the people who actually knew about Jango and Boba. It wasn't a very large crowd. And Boba spreads a lot of rumors about his identity once he's in the armor, since no one sees his face anymore.
Who, exactly, would be able to tell he was a clone? Vader, Aurra Sing, Bossk, Obi-Wan, and Dengar. They were really the only ones who knew his name, save the prison and Jedi. But really, the Republic fell. A lot of people who could have possibly known either died, or would stay quiet for fear of the Empire and/or Fett himself.
Come to think of it, the fact that Boba KNEW Anakin, if briefly, could tie into how Boba came to work so closely with Vader. Yes, Boba earned Vader's respect by being unpredictable.. but the Dark Lord also knew Fett from before. Think about it. Why else would Vader care if one (albeit very good) bounty hunter lives or dies, especially after shooting him in the face? Yes, Fett would be a great tool, but Vader had killed other 'great tools' without a second thought.
Just throwing in my two cents there. :P

September 19, 2012 1:09 pm # I don't particulary care for the idea of killing of clone Boba Fett and replacing him with an imposter. One of the main reasons I like Fett is that he is a clone. Besides, why would Jaster Mereel kill of Fett and impersonate him? Why not someone else? Just a thought. :)
