January 17, 2010 11:40 pm # Hi...
If the internet no longer existed, what would you do to replace this activity?
Would having no internet be a good or bad thing?
There are lots of people who no longer interact face to face and feel more comfortable interacting online. This is probably one of the disadvantages of the Internet.
Would the world become a better place if there was no Internet? Would people understand each other better?
January 18, 2010 12:53 pm # no. how would news spread so fast? everything would revert to telephones, paper boys, etc.
trust me, a day without the internet = mass chaos.
January 18, 2010 2:53 pm # No internet would be awful. There's so much on here you can learn from. Whenever you need to know something, it's just a few clicks away. I can email my mom every day if I want, instead of wasting money on paper, pens, envelopes, stamps, and then waiting forever for a letter to show up. And I think the social aspects are good too, talking to people you never meet. At least it's good for me since I'm very shy in RL.

January 18, 2010 3:23 pm # There are some downsides to the internet, but honestly, it's a great thing. It lets us connect with the entire world so easily, and meet people we would never meet otherwise. An e-mail I write can reach it's destination halfway around the world in a couple of seconds, traditional mail takes a week or more.
But there are obvious downsides. Sometimes it's hard to communicate because we're communicating through text. Sometimes you can't tell if a person is being sarcastic or serious. Without a voice to clue us in, it's hard to sometimes decipher what a person is saying and what they really mean (am I making any sense?). And of course it's a lot easier to lie as well.

January 18, 2010 4:14 pm # I understand what you mean about not being able to hear people's voices. For example once I went, "I weigh 120 pounds!" and someone else went, "It's never enough for you, you keep wanting to lose more." But my intent had been a proud, happy, yay I made it. But she didn't take it that way. Sometimes there's things I don't say cause I don't know how to write it the way I mean it.

January 18, 2010 4:20 pm # It would make it easyier for me to take over! the world would fall into my hands!
Your god won't be there to save you, or maybe I will
February 22, 2010 10:32 pm # Probably play my Playstation. Or go and read a book. Plenty of Star Wars fiction out there to last forever.

I would probably go back to things I used to do before the internet was around which was read books, magazines, and watch TV. I think the internet has been very good to me.

Agreed, I'd simply be reading more books and probably playing Playstation - not that there's much chance of that these days with my baby crawling (almost ready to walk).

You know I just spoke on this topic....last week
Hey BFFC - enjoy the little ones why they stay little because they grow up so fast.

I would probably just play more video games, that's what I did before I had internet. Hopefully I would do something productive. Like invent the internet.

Then we would not have to think about what we would do without it! LOL

No internet?No party.'Nuff said.

If there was no Internet I would continue living my life like I do every day, except for the parts involving the Internet. Just think, the world used to operate without Internet, and so when people say it would be awful, it would just mean you would be reverting back to older ways. Those ways worked fine, things just took longer, and honestly does time really matter so much? Native American tribes like the Hopis didn't even have a word for time so when you think about it, time means nothing.

Every second counts, every second is meaningful, and I'd rather not waste my precious moments. I don't have the laid back, "yes, let's waste my entire life so one day when I'm 70 I'll wake up and realize I'm too old to live my life because I wasted it and threw it away" sort of outlook.

I would lose touch with so many people! And could not hope to contact the people I haven't seen in a long time. Like my friend Jacques. I am still unsure of his last name but when I am sure of it (maybe my mom remembers it) I'll certainly look him up, he was a cool guy.
My eldest daughter found her dad again thanks to FB. A few years ago I was having a serious bad time, and I met several friends on FB and in other places then online, that I'm still in touch with, precious people, but they're far away from me. Some are in Europe, some in South America, one of my friends keeps travelling around the world all the time. Heck, it would be quite a loss if I had to lose touch with all of them.
And as I want to work as either a Webmaster or a videogame texturer pretty soon, I guess I'd have to consider a different path for a career.. THAT would be a really bad heartbreak. I love doing what I do, and I'd love to do it for a living in a couple months.
Cast iron and treadmills? Oh yes. Still sculpting me to what I really want to be, and I love it. :)
i managed to find childhood friends who moved away on FB.

Yeah that too. Also bullies from my childhood, although I tend to avoid these. :P

I'd be a hell of a lot more productive that's for sure, no more getting sidetracked as easily when I'm supposed to be doing work

My little laptop caught a virus

Hate when that happens.
If I didn't have the internet I couldn't get help online when I stun myself in deep boredom/confusion with overly technical Javascript/PHP books. And to think I used to have a head for numbers. Ugh.

Yeah. If I didn't have to understand all that complicated arithmethic s*, I'd just burn these books because they're so deeply boring. But if I want to widen my job possibilities as a web designer I have to be able to read/write code and detangle it when it's badly done and full of crap. Java and PHP are a very limit minimum, there's even more. Pretty designs alone aren't enough anymore over here. :(
