If I may...
Not everyone who has a following is a hero, plenty of villians have followings.

Fett is more of an anti-hero, much like the Punisher. If you are willing to accept the expanded universe Fett becomes the leader of the Mandalorians, he acrues a mass ammount of respect, and he is revered as one of if not the most dangerous men in the galaxy.
He is a hero in that:
He devoted a great many resources to stabilizing the planet Mandalore after the Yuzzhan Vong. And he has a great many attributes to be admired, which is part of being a hero.
He holds himself to a personal standard that he never deviates from no matter how tempted he might be.
He is a BAMF
He is not a hero in that:
He is not motivated by a greater cause, but rather money.
He is technically a mercenary.
He has no alter ego. (Like Clark Kent, or Bruce Wayne)

However the Fett is not the sort of character you can truly compare to any one. He is unique. He is...     Well he is the Fett.

thats deep man.

and true

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

Ohhhh, I definitely have a masked character fetish of sorts, haha.

Other than Boba, I obsess over Yoshimitsu of Soul Calibur/Tekken, HUNK of Resident Evil, and Phantom (Erik) from Phantom of the Opera (yay for phan-girls! :P ).

Boba is pretty similar to HUNK (a mercenary and solider of the evil corporation Umbrella, he's known as Mr. Death for being the only member of his squad to survive on many of the missions, similar to Fett being the "last man standing"). Both have a strong air of mystery and bad-assery about them. :P
There really are no similarities to Yoshi or Phantom other than that they're masked, haha.

Yoshimitsu is the greatest video game character to ever live.

Once again... anti-hero.
Acording to Meriam-Webster
anti hero- a protagonist or notable figure who is conspicuously lacking in heroic qualities

Dont get me wrong I am a HUGE fan of the Fett, however I am willing to recognize that I am sometimes drawn to slightly darker characters (Hence my comparason to The Punisher) and I hold him in the highest regard. I am just saying that he is definatly an anti hero, he would be a hero but he is not an "Agent of good" he is his own man.
I have heard it said that weak individuals seek out stonger people to cling to. If that is true then the Fett is obviously not weak and as such a man to be feared. He is a true representation of the spirit behind the poem "Ozymandius" by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

I would say that to understand the fett you should examine this classic piece of literature.

(Please note that I am not trying to be negative and that I am an Irishman descended from Mercs and people of a generaly unpleasant nature. I also usually indulge in the unreality of this site while slightly incapacitated by alcohol) :):):) he he he

Rorschach is a good example of why I like masked heroes. There's a level of mystery behind them, makes them sinister. I've always loved masked heroes. But then, I'm also a fan of The Punisher. I think overall, if they're mean and grisly in their execution of justice, I'm in.
