So? Who actually goes to wookieepedia anyway? o_0
I do. Alot actually. Whats wrong with it

Well, they have good pictures, I'll give you that. I go there occasionally to grab pictures from them.
But otherwise? More than half their articles are incorrect, and they change now and then based on whim. There's a lot of infighting between the people in charge. And, well, there's a lot of "mistakes" and incorrect articles.

If your basing alot of that on the wikipedia is wrong cause anyone can edit, i have a counter argument, most people wont edit alot of the articles, things such as the ones on different elements and some of the millions of others. If its because you know alot of them are wrong then nvm

Where'd you hear about this? The community there always seemed fun

Val, I heard about the fighting from a former image provider/sorter who left because of the fighting.
And as for the "anyone can edit it" thing, yes I have issues with that but that's not the reason. I have before tried to fix articles only to have them changed back to their original wrong state, and that is part of the problem. But, yes, it's mainly cause I know a lot of them are wrong. I can go get, say, a reference book, find the section, and read what it says, and what wookieepedia says on the same subject will be different.

Do you have any examples? I would really want to know where these things are wrong. Im always reading those entries and i dont want to be caught with my pants down using false info in a conversation or rpg.

everytime i've looked something on wookieepedia it was usually correct...
I go on it. Though it is flawed sometimes, I suppose. :)
I like it though. :)
I don't have time to go digging around. I tried random article for quite a while just now and every single thing that came up was something from the later NJO (which I have not read), video games I have not played (empire at war mostly), and obscure comics hardly anyone's even read. When I do find wrong articles I'll post them. But I don't really care enough to go looking around and finding them all. And, who knows, in the past few years maybe someone's actually cleaned the site up a bit. But like I said, random article came up with nothing for me.
Also, my experience with wookieepedia was a few years ago, that person I talked of I haven't spoke to in about two years. So who knows, the fighting might have died down since then.

The point is that wookieepedia may be good for basing RPGs off of or maybe other bits of information but if your publishing a book with Lucas Ltd, don't go using wookieepedia.

Yes, exactly my point, just worded better than I did.

I think Everettj meant this page for (check the date) april 1st... http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookieepedia:April_Fools%27_Day_2009/Main_Page
All in the name of fun. Great find Ever. I didn't find it until a few days later and was LMAO for hours.
see this link for the full story: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookieepedia:April_Fools'_Day_2009
I liked in the Did You Know? section:
That Leia was Luke's sister?
It would have been funnier if they had said:
That Vader was Luke's father?

I agree with Miba about alot of the infighting on there. Seen it plenty of times. My biggest beef was when I tried to fix the picture that one of the admins put on there saying that his is what Boba Fett looked like unmasked. It's a artist concept picture that was done by Dan Brereton for the Star Wars Galaxies card series.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Boba_Fett_Unmasked_Original.jpg
The dude said that because the card series was licensed by Lucasfilm, then it was absolutely canon, even though the card was done before Episode II ever came out. Now, you can't look at that and tell me that Fett is drawn as an alien in that picture. The dude insisted it was canon and that this is what Fett looked like after he got his Sarlacc scars. I'm sorry, but that's just retarded. I got tired of arguing with him and just left it on there. Let them live in ignorance. If the entire Star Wars Galaxies card series was canon, then I say we put the card that has the Ewok wearing a Yoda Ears Star Wars ballcap on the Ewok webpage as the main picture. Or, how about the one of Yoda dressed up as Santa Claus? I mean, it's all canon, right? These people have no concept of what an "artist concept" picture means, I guess. Idiots.

Thank you. I appreciate you speaking up for me like that. :)

Its a pretty cool picture, but definitly not canon. Fett is way too alienish there (he reminds me of an elf, actually....), and he's not so old that all his hair turned white yet. Interisting idea though.

I agree with you Miba, it's good for some visual reference materials but this whole topic brings up an issue that I think is somewhat irrelevant...i.e. Star Wars canon...
I know we all want there to be a definitive story line with clear cut and explicit characters and situations but Star Wars was never meant to really be that kind of universe.
Star Trek had "star dates" way back in 1968, granted, they didn't really have a continuity worked out back then so the date meant nothing until the trekkies got together in the 70s and 80s and developed the ST canon. Nevertheless, ST is more of the type of show that is designed for that kind of organization and canonization.
Anyway, what I am saying is that, yes, it is very frustrating trying to nail down timelines, characters and various other details but I think that is indicative of Lucas's lack of vision. As we all know he was not really sure he was ever going to get the first film made... since those days he has tried to convince us all that he had it all planned out from the beginning, but we all know that's BS.
I give the Wookieepedia folks credit for making the effort to untangle the mess but in the end I don't think there is ever going to be a definitive canon. I think we all have to just work it out for ourselves. I can't site specific examples myself but I have been, on a number of occasions, sadly disappointed with a lack of continuity and consistency with Wookieepedia but as pointed out above, we are talking about a body of information spanning over 30 years, several video games, novels, comic books, RPGs, toys and fan-based mythology. Writing a master's thesis gave me a unique perspective on how difficult it is to collect, analyze, synthesize and present vast quantities of often variable and complex information from multiple sources.
Long-story-short, I think it might be expecting a bit too much to have a fully consistent, maintained and complete, 100% accurate canon of the Star Wars universe.
But every effort counts and it's better to have people out there trying to make sense of it all and maintaining an open discourse than if we were all just making it up ourselves. Or maybe that would be interesting too!? I know I have my own version of the SW universe that I prefer over the "official" version.

Well, you know, I rather like that the fandom isn't especially strict, and that theres lots of holes for us to fill in with our own ideas. It helps me a lot when I write, I must admit. And anyways, I think fanom is almost always an interisting read.

Yeah, I mean the original films etc. give us all a nice place to start and to get the creative juices flowing so that's why I give Wookieepedia some credit too. I totally agree though, there is a lot of original fan work that is just as interesting and fun to look at, read and enjoy as "canon."
