I come a lot but I don't post a whole lot. That's cause I either don't have anything to say, or the topics that have had new posts aren't ones I'm interested in posting in.

What Miba said if I came as often as I used to.

Some people are more of the listening type. Not everyone likes to throw their hat in the ring (a phrase i still don't understand... why waste a perfectly good hat???) and knock horns with people.
And others just just like to be part of something, even if they aren't active.
Hail to the King Baby!!
Good points.
In general, 1% of a community will create (new topic, new contributions like fan fiction, fan art, etc.), 10% will consume it (reply to topics, enjoy the contributions, etc.), leaving the rest to just enjoy it at their leisure.
Last week, BFFC had over 3,600 people visit, checking out an average of nearly 5 pages (17,780 total pageviews). That's three times more people visiting, than there are people who've signed up in the last two years.
On the boards, there are 1,037 members, but only around 200 have more than 5 posts. 20% is above average, and shows off a healthy community.

Some ( including me I say) have bigger mouths and like to share their point of views often. I have to try and keep my comments relavent and the least annoying I can make them. I'm sure there are people that don't feel like they have something to add and don't want to just make noise. Plus I know I'm not really comfortable with role playing just yet, although someday I may be. I may consider myself a writer or an artist but that doesn't mean I write fan fiction or make relevant art to post.
"Suggestion: Electrocution works well. Evisceration and Decapitation are also effective, or um, so I've heard."

i like to listen to other people's POV & chip in only when i feel it is relevant (Like my Motto below says :D)

Nope

I'd probably consider "active" as someone with 4 stars and up.
I think active is someone who posts at least once a month ;)
For many of us that's not a problem :P
It was like thousands of voices cried out for a sequel and were suddenly silenced...

You're not active; you're hyper-active! (at least here)
I need to waste WAY more time here if I'm supposed to come even CLOSE to matching that! ;)
I know I'm two years off this last reply, but I will try and contribute :) :P
Yeah, most members don't post, but it's their decision! :)
There is another aspect that I brought up on another thread where I was saying that I don't like to just pipe in to increase my total number of posts. So my posts tend to be longer rather than of greater frequency. I don't know which is more annoying posts that only contain "LoL" or my diatribes about the meaning of life. I guess either extreme can be annoying depending on your mood at the time.

Thats why at a forum I go to (and mod) we have a rule that you absolutly can't make one word, OR one sentance posts. This prevents people from making a ton of posts just so they can have a lot of posts, as well as making a substantial post. Because really, if you're going to make a post, you might as well make it worthwhile for the next person to read....
also it means that the person isn't following the thread plot
which is annoying.

And that is really the point of this all...right...to say something substantial...to connect in some way. There are people here who have more posts than I and less karma, more karma and fewer posts, the totals don't mean near as much as the content. I can't really tell who is who here yet. I have been watching this site for over five years but I only became an active member last year. I did this because I felt like I finally had something to contribute and I sincerely hope that's what I am doing.
In any event, I think Cecilia is right and her idea for her forum should also apply here.

Yeah but then you have posts that go, "lol. that was so funny. I laughed and laughed. There, I got two sentences in plus my lol so I'm off the hook, phew."

Well, and that's why I said above that the totals don't count as much as the content. But for some people that is not the case. Cecilia's idea at least helps to limit the fluff factor to some extent.

That's got to be quite difficult to moderate.

If anyone has ideas for further welcoming the "0 post" members to say hello, let's discuss. I'm all for welcoming new members, not having strict rules and requirements with online communities.

Eh no, not really. We're not too strict on the one sentance deal, unless we keep have to remind the same person again and again. THEN we get tough.
Not that it matters anyways since the place is practically dead. A shift in interist from most of the regulars, and lack of interist from new people to join leave very few posters. People just aren't that into Super Mario anymore.... D=

I like your open way of managing your forum. Besides, when people *have* to post at least once to exist on a site, they might make the effort. But I am not sure if it goes any further. Some people just browse, but don't really wish to participate.
Gotta keep it up to date with enough new things to attract people often. Not always an easy thing to do.
