Figured this might be interesting for some of us. Whether it be college or highschool (I guess?), where do you go to have stress and grades ruin your weekdays, tests haunt your dreams, and homework keep you up late at night? lol

I've been enrolled at Kennesaw State University for about 3 years now, nowhere near graduating yet. The goal is to transfer to Georgia State (in Atlanta) next fall for their film program. I like going to KSU becaue it's close to my house and it's in my home town. I don't like it because it seems like all they want to do is steal my money without worrying about if I'm getting any education worth the money I'm paying (a lot) and the campus cops are jerks. Yay college...

What about everyone else?

You think your college blows, try mine out for a couple days. Recruit SciFi at the Military College of Vermont, Norwich University. 4 hours from home, frozen tundra, and hell 24/7/365 rather than just weekdays.  : )

I dramatize it but you get desensitized to getting screamed at and messed with after awhile. Just waiting to get recognized as actual people at this point. If we're lucky, it'll be sometime next month.

I'm self taught-homeschooled. I know what you mean man. I'm in the Civil Air Patrol in the US.

Some may run a short while, but none of them would bide.

I was homeschooled. I don't plan on going to college either.

I am currently enrolled at Pima Community College. Same exact courses as universty, minus tuition and the dreaded STUDENT LOANS. And you can transfer to any college or university later with the credits you earn at the CC (and keep em!). My goals are to get into the art field (yeah, right....).

I guess you could say I'm at William Patterson University.... but, BUT I'm really not taking classes this semester... I think it would kill me if i did.... I officially am an Art Major though. I wish it wasn't so screwed up for me actually.. this would have marked my 8th year in school. ( i think .. maybe just 7...)

My mom is going to make me go to college even though I don't want to. I don't even know what I'm going to do, really. I know! I'll be a full-time, professional Boba Fett Fan! LOL!

Good for your mom. Despite what people might say, you won't hardly make any money without a college degree.

I work full time as a manager in a grocery store and my earnings last year were 30,000. Not too bad. Yes I want to get out of it, though. My plan is to get into sewing and sell the stuff I make. I don't need to go to college for that. I think college would just destroy my love for sewing. The teacher would tell me to do this, and do it that way, and I don't need that. Besides, why waste all my money on college when everything I need to learn is at my fingertips, here on the internet? I don't need someone to show me how to do something. Usually instructions online come with pictures and sometimes videos. I'm completely selftaught anyhow. I haven't taken a single class on it. I can do menswear, which is supposedly really hard. Currently I'm teaching myself pattern drafting, and doing a good job of it too. If you ask a lot of the biggest and most famous people in the industry you find that a lot of them didn't go to college, at least that's what I've heard.

And if I fail? I go back to the grocery stores. My husband is going to college to become a teacher and once he does we can live on his income and I can try my dream of sewing, and like I said if that fails I can still get a job at any grocery store in town easily.

Reality doesn't care if you believe in it.

Yeah, the pay isn't too good, but there are plenty of openings! lol
And yeah, I know college is good. I just don't have any idea what I'm going to get a degree for. I've got the whole world in front of me and I don't know what part I want!

For those of you guys in college, what's your major?

I'm going for Criminal Justice, planning on going law enforcement after my Marine Corps enlistment.

Cool! I might be a cop, in America or otherwise. I hate it when people drive even a mile over the speed limit. After all, it's called the speed limit!

Not gonna lie, I really don't share that kind of enthusiasm. I typically drive considerably faster than the "speed limit", I mean honestly going that slow gets you passed out and looked at funny. I really can't see myself pulling people over for doing over the speed limit, when it's really not something I'm against, so I'd rather not be a regular street cop; thinking about trying for the U.S. Marshals or a similar, somewhat less menial job.

Oooh yeah..uh ... NO! The speed limit is the road conditons with traffic and what you can drive. I don't think its any person's right to say that you can only go so fast when its much more dangerous to be the person driving 10 mph under these so called limits. My limit is physics.

Even if i do graduate some day I will still be in the same position i am now... not using my real gifts and talents.. not getting to be myself  and so forth. So i have decided to not waste my time any more. Why be stressed out and get insulted and get put down and pay for that honor. I don't need it anymore.

Doing stuff yolu don't want to though, thats actually really GOOD for you. It allows you to grow and become better. I'm not especially interisted in drawing realistically, but I am currently taking a course that deals with that. Why? I want to draw backgrounds better. And learn how to draw human bodies (theres actually an entire course delt to that). Because if I can become better at sketching how bodies look with correct proportion, then I can draw characters better, human or otherwise. Learning something you don't want to work with can allow you to become better at what you want to work with.

I know speed limit is called speed -limit- but honestly, theres no rule that says you can't go a few miles over or under. Legally, cops can't pull you over unless you're going 10 or more above whats posted on the sign. And going under is just as dangerous as going over. And a pedometer might not be 100% accurate, off by just a mile or two. 10 is more or less the point where you are fully aware of going over. Speed cops don't make much money anyways. And sitting in a car for hour upoin hour just watching traffic? In 100 degree heat? Boooooring.

Anyways, I'm trying to become a cartoonist. Stupid hard field to get into, I know. But everyday I open the comics in the paper and hate what I see. I want to make better strips.

I did my undergrad. work at the University of Kansas, anthropology. I did grad. research in Japan at Sophia University. I finally got my master's at the University of Hong Kong, anthropology.

I loved school and studying and research.

But here's the killer........I work at the Gap in Tokyo now. I don't make more than 24K a year.  I'm going to cry now so I'm going to sign off.:(

Man! that will always be the dream for me, to be a cartoonist. But I am aiming more for comic books. And I am totally with you about backgrounds.

I didn't mean like techniques, I meant more as in I'd rather do what MY inspiration tells me to do, not what the text book or whatever tells me to do. What if I don't want to do that pair of pants they say the next project is? What if I dream of a lovely coat instead? So far the only real technique problem I have is handsewing, which I've been practicing and actually made buttonholes by hand on a previous project which was a pain but it was something I needed practice on and I did it anyway.

Man. I'd die to work at the GAP in Tokyo! But you're right, 2,400,000 yen a year is nothing in Tokyo. What are you're housing arrangements?(if you don't mind my asking. ;) )

Eh, the fasions there are overrated. I see images of their so called trends and cringe. Granted, I'm not into any trendy clothes, but those are especially bad.

The idea of working at the Gap in Tokyo, I agree, is really cool. I speak Japanese all day and hang out selling clothes. The reality is a bit different. I live in a descent apartment with my wife but she basically puts food on the table. I have to buy Gap clothing so that cuts into my already meagre income. I am lucky that I get a chance to do something that few westerners do but I just wish the conditions were a little better. I would really like to be a full-time artist...but that is probably going to have to wait for the next life.

I agree, but I look at this subject from a very specific perspective. I did my master's thesis on fashion and identity in Tokyo. It's complex and the thesis is super dull reading but in general you are right. The fashion thing here is way overrated. And to be honest most people here are clones. They follow whatever is popular at any given time and change their style when the wind changes direction. That's one reason why I am working for the Gap. It's not too trendy and you can mix and match easily. I worked for Ralph Lauren here in Tokyo a few years back and that was hell.

I am an artist at heart so I tend to be pretty simple when it comes to my own style so I don't worry to much about the trends.

Whew!! I've been to quite a number of schools in my life but to keep it simple I'll stick with colleges. I've been to UNC Charlotte and Chapel Hill as an undergraduate and UNC Greensboro as a graduate student . Later I hope to go to UNC Central to work towards a teaching license.
