Time to Review Episode 2: Rising Malevolence

Episode 2 in my opinion was very good. Its nice to finally see Plo Koon or in fact anyone other than Ani, Obi and Asoka. We finnally get to see Grevious.

The plot was great allthough the plot of this episode is kinda more what you'd expect in Star Trek, but that's not bad. It's good that they are making Clones less like droids and more like people. It will make it more powerfull when they turn on the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith if they clones are like people and you care for them.

Nice little reference to the Death STar firing scene when the droids have the same reaction to the firing Ion Cannon that those Imperial officers had when the Death Star super-laser fired in A New Hope.

And they toned down on the corny droid jokes in this episode though there are still some droid jokes which pull the episode down.

And also pulling the Episode down is Asoka. She is cliched and annoying though this time round unlike the movie she was a little bit intersting but that's because she was only a side sort of character.

Overall the first two episode hve been a good and stellar start to the series and my rating for episode 2 is:
9/10

And I would not consider someone DYING to be a minor part of a book! Death is a very big thing. I would most certainly rebuy the book.

Edited so as not to post twice in a row.

I have the game and would like to say that this "Shaak Ti" is Shaak Ti in name only. She doesn't look, act, or speak like the real Shaak Ti.

Yeah, I don't understand why they changed her look for the game.  It's like they were trying to give her some kind of sex appeal for the game.  And she was way too easy to take out when you fought her.  The hardest one ot fight for me, so far, was the weird little guy with all the droids and the Doc Octopus type arms coming out of his back harness.

regimas wrote:

which kind of animation for the clone wars did you prefer?

i kinda liked the 2-D aspect of the old one
more stylized.

I definitely liked the first Clone Wars cartoon animation style a lot better, but I didn't mind this cartoon that much at all.  I do like that they show more of the interaction with the Clones now, though.  Makes them more personable and less nameless.  You actually feel for them when they bleed and cheer with them when they win.
I did like how Yoda seemed to almost be having fun at the beginning, as if he was just messing with the droids.  Reminded me a little of the "crazy" Yoda from the Empire Strikes Back.

While reading everyone's opinions on the new cartoon, I couldn't help but think of what a boardroom thread like this would have been like had the internet been around when I was a kid and the Star Wars: Droids and Star Wars: Ewoks cartoons were out.  I wonder if people would have been so critical about them back then, or just happy to have something Star Wars on TV on Saturday mornings.  I was just happy it was Star Wars, because that was definitely THE thing back in the day.  Every kid had Star Wars toys in some shape or form.  It's amazing how some things gets ingrained with people, not so much in the culture as a whole, but just within a certain generation of people.  I wonder how different thing would be if Star Wars had come out in the 50's and was first part of my parents generation.  Would I even like it as much as I do now?  Just goes to show that it's not always the animation that pulls people in, but the story, whether its something serious (well, not comedy, anyway) like GI Joe, He-Man, or the Superfriends, or just plain wacky like Bugs Bunny, Animaniacs, or Freakazoid.

I think SW is more across the board than just staying with one generation. As evidence, we have people on this board in their 30s I think, and then we have people in their younger teen years.

I do agree with Yoda reminding me of the ESB Yoda. I think that was their purpose, there was an article at sw.com about it that said just that.

I liked that Yoda spoke to them in that mentoring way, like he was training young Padawans.  I thought that was a nice touch, considering in the Republic Commando novels, Etain said that most clones felt like young children in the Force, because everything was so new to them.  I'm still hoping we finally get to see some Commando's on the series this time.  Heck, seeing Delta Squad in action on the big screen would definitely be the heat.  If they had Omega in their all black armor, that would be icing on the cake, you know?

My only qwalm is that the droids are retards. I prefered it when they were the silent cold killers they were in Phantom Menace and in the previous clone wars books.

If DELTA SQAUD does get into the series, then they had beter show them as the hard core commandos they are.

not at all. JK. The clones  were fine. padme was better than in the movies. Obi-Wan wasn't terrible.

I saw it and thought it had to much child-ish-ness to it. Though my dad likes it and he's like 38! So I sit and watch it with him to make him feel good.
P.S. It has the WORST opening ever!!! It's like ALTIMATE CHEEEESE!!!!!

The show isn't all too bad, but the retarted droids drive me insane. I hate all of the corny droid jokes. Awful stuff. The Phantom Mencae voice was the best for the droids. And the animstion should be more realistic. But the clones are awesome, and the action isn't too bad. Overall, I think it's OK.

Its not that bad, you just have to look at from a different perspective.

Like a In-Universe propaganda movie or something.

there's nothing wrong with the opening titles... it's like the opening crawl in the movies, but in a voice-over format. plus they keep it short and simple.

Totaly the guy who's talking. Hey which do you think was better the first or the second animated Clone Wars series? I actually prefer the first one. :)

Eh both series have their flaws. Last week episode, was my favorite so far, but i think they need to add some Mando'a to these clones, or something you know?

There also was no Asoka in that episode. :D Mostly clones, and they showed how good the clones can be, which i really like.
