October 21, 2008 10:01 pm # So this was brought to my attention today:
http://www.swtor.com/
So there it is official. There will be another Star Wars game from our friends at Bioware. The Old Republic..... A MMO game.
Here's some real information:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/static/EkkuykypVpnoJvinWC.php
(at the time of posting this the official Star Wars site was down for maintenance)
I have never played a MMO before, and as this is still in the works it seems.... it will be some time before i get to...
I still think it looks great....
But only if there is an option to be Mando'ad.
Meat is murder...... tasty tasty murder.

October 21, 2008 10:03 pm # Great find Si! Already a member. Is it a pay to play kind of thing? I am hesitant to do stuff like that. Already a member. :P
But I sincerely hope that Mandalorian will be an option. If there isn't, I'm not even trying it. And a Mandalorian must be able to takedown a Jedi.

October 21, 2008 10:06 pm # Yeah I agree with the take down of Jedi. It can be done. And I too am a member, but the site was giving me some issues with logging in and posting. But that has time to resolve, and I am in no big rush.

October 22, 2008 1:31 am # NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
THIS CAN NOT BE HAPPENING, WE WANT KOTOR 3!!!
In the description for the game on the site it says that Revan never returned. NO, they have just killed KOTOR.

That was my first reaction. But there still is hope for KotOR 3. Somewhere... I hope.

October 22, 2008 2:13 pm # .....KOTOR 3 would have been fantastic. This MMO will probably end up as a disaster, but I'm still a member :P

October 22, 2008 2:45 pm # uh yeah this has been news for a few months now :)
October 22, 2008 4:20 pm # Yes but now it is official that's all Im saying. I too wish it wasn't an MMO. But there seems to me that there is some cool plot stuff. I guess.

October 25, 2008 5:32 pm # Kotor 3 would be awesome, but this takes place like 500 years after Kotor 2. And I hope Mandos will be able to kill Jedi as well, they probably will be because I'm guessing that "everyone" will want to be a Jedi, and so the relatively few Mando fans will be rewarded with a realistically powerful and skilled class. Or they could just take a dump on our heads and make Jedi all powerful and Mandos just average people with cool-looking armor.
I think this is LucasArts making up for Galaxies. With Bioware's expertise and SW experience., and Lucasarts having learned a lesson from their last MMO, this should be great!

November 15, 2008 6:03 pm # It say on swtor.com that Revan never returned from unknown space. NOOOOO, they just killed the possibility of KOTOR 3 and Revan.
PLEASE LUCASARTS, IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO CANCEL THE MMO.

November 15, 2008 8:59 pm # Well, it's only official as long as George says so.
There is still hope, revan07. Though I highly doubt it. Somethings are better left off undisturbed.
November 16, 2008 8:59 am # Maybe GL thinks that bringing back Revan from the unknown reigions, and explaining what he was doing out there would 'ruin' Revans character, like he 'ruined' Boba Fett, by explaining where he came from and what he was...
Any thoughts on that?
"Sir, Finishing this Cake."
November 16, 2008 9:03 am # I think he's thinking of money. Imagine we all go out and buy KOTOR3. Sure he gets 50 dollars per game, but what's that compared to 15 dollars a month for months and months and months. Adds up pretty quick. Plus we all have to buy the game to begin with.

November 16, 2008 10:15 am # and revan07, there is still very much a possibility of a KotOR III. we would just follow Revan's journey into Unknown Space.
November 16, 2008 1:48 pm # @Miba
You would think he would be concentrating on pleasing the fans more, because hes already one of the richest b*stered's on earth...Enless he's just burning all that money to keep his house warm.

November 16, 2008 9:11 pm (Edited November 16, 2008 09:13 pm) # But this claims Revan never returnes, what can they do with his character now.
Revan was my favorite character. But as he never returns from unknown space, what can they do now with his great charatcer.
As Fett II said some things are better left undisturbed. Well i would rather no KOTOR 3 and no MMO than MMO and no KOTOR 3.
As a HUGE fan of KOTOR I hate the MMO.
How about do KOTOR 3, Revan can return and finish the story of Revan, the Exile and the Sith in KOTOR 3 and then do an MMO without them and without the Sith armada. How can the Sith armada exist 300 years after their defeat at the Star Forge. Considering there were only remnants of the Sith armada in KOTOR 2.

That is what I thought as well.
I really hope that there will be a KOTOR III.
Revan has become one of my favorite characters as well. Though if Revan is in the third game it will not be as the main character. LOL though after playing KOTOR, I can't help but think of Revan as a woman :D
I think that I might get the MMO just to see what it is like. I used to really like playing MMO's and that was where I met Devil Boy (I met him through the game Dark age of Camelot) but I not longer have the time to play them and I have had enough of paying money each month to play a game.

November 23, 2008 4:41 pm # What I'm thinking is that they'll finish Revan/Exile's story in this game somewhere. Still, a poor excuse for, you know, playing the end of their story. Or they will just leave with that statement. I don't know about everyone else, but the reason I like the first two so much is the main character's storyline...
It'll be interesting to see what happens, although I doubt ill get it. Hate monthly fees, same here, not enough time and not really worth it.

December 8, 2008 5:32 pm # it looks pretty damn awesome, let's hope they don't destroy it like they did with SWG.
December 8, 2008 11:03 pm # I LOVE Revan just as much, if not more than the average KotOR fan. (Trust me on this one... I can prove it ... :P) But if looking at the chronology of all history in the Star Wars galaxy, its almost impossible for Revan and the Exile to return from unknown space successful in destroying the Sith. Why do I say that? The Sith survive, and not because Revan once was Sith and returned from the unknown regions. Darth Bane.. Brotherhood of Darkness etc, all had to stem from somewhere. It makes perfect logical sense that they would have descended from the Sith in question during the time period classified as "KotOR" or rather this MMO. To me this fits, because otherwise the Sith and much of their knowledge of the dark side of the force would have disappeared. It is obvious that with Darth Bane's time period, that they have not.

Furthermore everyone would rather play KOTOR 3 on their own than pay $15 a month to play as some meaningless character being spammed by some 12 year old who likes pop tarts.

I know. The best way to beat the little turds is to spam them back in a far more intelligent way then win the game you are playing in. I'm good at both of those things so I guess I win.
Back to the KOTOR thing. Well if they bring back and ruin any of the characters from KOTOR I or II I will be very displeased. I don't care if they re-use crappy characters like Traya, but if they ruin Canderous and/or Atton....Well. I'll write such an angry letter.... In red ink!
That'll learn them.

January 27, 2009 2:11 pm # Star Wars (to me at least) is the movies. Knights of the Old Republic has so little to do with the movies because they wanted to have free reign from them, basically bioware completely created their own story and characters and ideas and worlds. That's all fine I guess, except I begrudge it for having a Star Wars tag on the front of it just to sell and make money. Take away force powers and lightsabers from that game and you have basically just a space RPG that I guarantee you wouldn't sell nearly as many copies as it does JUST by having SW plastered in front of it. It's not a George Lucas (even tho he's retarded) creation, it may have been approved by him or whatever, but if he ever got the chance to make a KOTOR movie or something he'd just change it all 100% into something else. Why? Because it's not Star Wars, it's Bioware. It just so happens to BE in a Star Wars setting. Star Wars is a tale of fathers and sons that is based off of so many myths and epics and stories that have been passed down throughout the generations, while Knights of the Old Republic lacks all of that. Some of the characters are absolutely fantastic! Canderous is my absolute favorite (for obvious reasons), and HK-47 left a lasting impression on everyone. Hell, he's even shown up in a few other games, like Star Wars Galaxies, the "other" star wars online game that will surely tank after TOR comes out.
For the basic run down
1) I hate every joe somebody getting to be a Jedi , because there shouldn't ever be a ton. It's like on "Heroes" (if you watch). If EVERYONE had super powers, chaos surely will ensue.
2) The lack of ICONIC characters. Yes yes, you will argue that Carth and Revan are super kewl. Thats swell and all but I need to see Jabba, Fett, Vader, Luke, something! I don't want to play a rip-off world of star wars craft wanna be stormtrooper white armored sith troops and big handled lightsaber BS.
3) They claim "story" is going to factor in it. That's for single player. MMOs are supposed to be player driven, I want to play my online game the way I want to play it dammit. You can keep your story and put it on a console game, I'll play it through one time and go 'aight cool'.
I've got to go to class or I'd rant more.
"Those with the ability to lead, have the responsibility to do so."
January 27, 2009 2:53 pm # Not sure I understand your problem with KotOR. Star Wars isn't just the movies, not any more at least. Yes, the MOVIES were based on many if not all the greatest stories in world culture, and is a very epic comination that Lucas deserves much praise and credit for. But as he himself has said, Star Wars Ep. I-VI are simply HIS tales that he chose to tell about this alternatve universe that he created. He gave us, and companies like BioWare and Dark Horse *who are making some awesome comics based on KotOR,* the ability to add our own stories to it.
Do I like all these additions into the SW Universe? Definitly not! Do I agree with Lucas in the items he's chosen to make canon or even all his choices in the movies? HELL NO! But that is his privlage, just as it's my privlage to create my own story to this awesome beast that is SW and enjoy other people's tellings of it. KotOR I've thought was probably the VERY Best off all the additions to Lucas's vision, and I am really begining to love THAT era more then the one around the movies.
Just my two cents

January 28, 2009 6:16 am # I see where McCoy is coming from and I accept all of his points. I thought it was a great game, Star Wars or not, the fact that it was, I guess is just a bonus. Granted, I probably wouldn't have got it had it not been Star Wars.
On a similar note Tales of the Jedi (The series of comics) had practically nothing to do with anything from the films (I say practically, because Luke met up with Exar Kun's ghost before the comics were written.) but regardless, it's probably my favourite series of comics. I dunno why, it was just a good set of stories. Although I suppose Ulic's life was more similar to that myth idea you were talking about than anything in the KOTOR games.

January 28, 2009 7:19 am # exactly
really cool game (even tho i hated how slow and turn based the combat is, not a fan of that style, but it was easy enough to not be too annoying) but it was like 2 steps away from not being star wars and in fact, if you just played with swords the whole time and someone saw you playing it theyd probably never be able to tell it was a star wars game
"Those with the ability to lead, have the responsibility to do so."
January 28, 2009 9:10 am # Yes, the turn-based system annoyed me too. Also the speed at which the character ran annoyed me. I'm just impatient though.
Disciple Sift Through Lies; Few Grains Of Truth Be Known...
February 2, 2009 6:10 pm # Agreed - Oblivion'esk hack-n-slash will get my vote over turn based any day.
But back on point, I still don't see the hostility toward KotOR as being Star Wars. Of course there are differences. It's 4,000 years Before the movies - if you ask me not nearly enough WAS different! Think about where our culture was 4,000 years ago...
We have the proper setting *a galaxy far far away that's getting the shab'la crap blown out of it, as usual*, the proper heros *a young Jedi for the comics, who though punkish, seems to just scrape by some how with the help of his buddies*, the proper bad-ass'ness for the enemies *comic pawns - GO MANDO'ADE!!! - and then for the game you still have Malak, who's pretty awesome, as well as yourself if you go Dark side with Reven*.
Not sure what's missing there... maybe it's me and my love for the game.

Found this today while looking to see if Wookieepedia had any new info on the Mandalorians appearing in the new season of the Clone Wars cartoon. It's a series of mini-videos that provide some backstory history to the new Old Republic game that's coming out. The three below are mainly about the role of the Mandalorians during this time and the emergence of the "New Mandalore." This would be the Mandalore after Canderous Ordo, since this takes place a couple hundred years after the KOTOR video games. They're all narrated by Lance Henriksen (the android Bishop, from the Aliens movies). Pretty neat. I mean, you can't have a Star Wars game this big without the Mandies, right?

Alright so I did some research and found that Grand Moffs have always been around. But what about Imperials? The Empire was formed by Palpatine. Looking for some clearing up in this.

August 25, 2009 6:30 am # Ya they are basically copying the same plotlines from the movies essentially, just without the definitive outline of events to come or the iconic characters. That way they can change the story or kill off characters as the story goes along, without having to stick directly to what happens in the movies.
