Discussion for the movie, what did you think?

my thoughts are Ebert and Roeper's thoughts.

"EPIC."

Yeah that was such a great movie. It had so much more stuff in it than I thought. The whole thing with the Batpod actually being part of the Bat Mobile was very very cool. Two face was cool, kind of a bummer that he had to die though. That leaves who? Riddler? Penguin? Idk how theyre gonna top Heath as the Joker. You never really find out what happens to him either. But regardless, the movie was freakn amazing. I gotta watch it again this weekend.

Harvey Dent lives.

And the joker was one of the best. It sucks that his actor died. "How about I make this pencil disappear"

That was epic.  The Joker was portrayed perfectly.  A good Joker is one that you can laugh at but still hate him at the same time.  The pencil trick was epic.

This is why I really like Batman.  He doesn't do it for the glory, or the money.  He does it because he feels he is responsible.  Everyone takes him as a criminal but he saves them nonetheless.

Another thing about Joker.  For the next movies I really want to see Joker.  Unfortunately Heath is dead.  They can't just sweep Joker on the rug.  He's Batman's main villain.  You can't forget about Joker.  But then being Joker would almost be Taboo in memory of Heath.

Regardless I think they need to replace him.  Joker must live on!

So beside the whole Dent dying thing, the movie was utterly awesome.

yep-went to the 9am...going to movies in the a.m. is weird right?
anyway- it is a very busy w/ subplots. the acting is great. the movie has a very cold feel, it is 2 and a half hours of hard movie, w/ the only attempt at levity being some comments from alfred.

coolest scene was the tokyo extraction IMO
tripping the semi truck was tight too.
strangely i liked harvey dents story the best, i thought it was interesting that they didnt show any of him in the trailer. the joker was as advertised...scene stealing.
nice cameo for the scarecrow.

event movie of the summer...who r u to resist.

ps anybody see the gotham knight anime cartoon dvd just released?

yea, it's supposed to connect Batman Begins with Dark Knight, it was interesting.

July 18, 2008 6:33 pm #

i literally just got back a little while ago.
i went in full joker costume and i will post some pics as soon as i can.
my favorite 2 batman characters where in this one,2-face and joker
i loved batmans new toys(the bomb launcher, batpod, supergrip thingy, gauntlets)
i loved the cameo by scarecrow and heath ledger, as everybody said already was AMAZING.

now the things i dident like.
the hong kong thing, cut it out of the movie
2-face, totally wasted my favorite character. worst death since boba fett.
i would have liked to see joker being dragged into arkham. that would have been sweet.
the ending wasint that great. i would have preffered another cliff hanger like..."theres been a number of break-ins. the most recent thing taken was this jewel encrusted cat..."

all in all, best part-the pencil trick
worst part-dents death

R.I.P.-Heath Ledger

just because a critic hates something doesn't mean its a bad thing, just because they love it doesn't mean its good. However it is excelent in this case, one of the best movies I have ever seen

That part was great. I saw it yesterday, and it was as good as the first one. Maybe better, hard to say, but it was great. I thought Gordon died, I was like 'no'! But he survived. I was thinking, he hasn't even been commissioner yet, but he was later. They should have let Dent live to be the villain in the next movie, and killed Joker instead. Heath did an incredible job, but he can't be in the next movie, so who's gonna be the villain?

I seriously hope that somehow Dent lives. But idk how they can pull it off without making it stupid. The Penguin might be stupid. And idk if anyone can top Jim Carrey as the Riddler (even tho we said that about Nicholson) and Catwoman isnt a very stable evil character. Shes just kinda rogue.

I saw the movie today. It was amazing!!!! I love the "How about I make this pencil disappear?" The entire audience was laughing hysterically. Dent's burned face was very realistic, too.

the beginning was awesome, in that bank. that's something the Joker would do too. very nice as he pulled out with the bus and made a nice getaway JUST as the cops got there.

lol everyone in the theater was like "woah!" i think one of the funniest parts would have to be when the little kids pretend to shoot all the cars, and then the cars actually blow up. that, and Ledger when he disguises himself as a nurse to get to Dent.

July 20, 2008 7:28 pm #

LOL I remember when he was dressed up as the nurse, and some doctor goes "Miss, we have to get him outta here" and the Joker turns around and shoots him.

Is the jokers "magic trick" gorey?

"My luck ranges from barely tolerable to cataclysmic"
July 20, 2008 9:06 pm #

No, but it involves a pencil "disappearing" into someone's head.

"None of this is really happening. There is a man. With a typewriter. This is all part of his crazy imagination."
July 20, 2008 9:52 pm #

But it doesn't explicity show any gore.  In fact it was like that throughout the movie.

This was THE PERFICT movie. I mean yes there are smallish flaws, as with anything... but it has so many elements of the perfict movie in my eyes.
-Batman
-Christian Bale (my absolute favorite and hottest actor IMHO)
-Explosions
-Car chases
-Hot guy seen with hot blonde chick
-Super awsome villians ( I have a thing for villians)

What more can a girl ask for?

The pencil part was fantabulous! Altthough when I saw it, I was the only one to laugh ( and loudly at that) at it. One woman turned around at me, glowering. Apparently she has a "normal" sense of humor. All weekend I kept offering to show my dad a new trick I learned. He didn't want to see it though :P

to see Heath Ledger's last role as something so raw and truly visceral, was a real enjoyment.

I truly loved this movie

I loved the film.  *just got back from seeing it*  I was surprised to have Harvey Dent transform into Two-Face in this film though... I was expecting them to set it up for him to be the villain in the next one, if they make a next one.  Which, they could still do as the fall wasn't very lethal and you don't see a coffin during the memoir of Commissioner's Gordon's.  They might have stashed him away somewhere.

And a hint about Catwoman making an appearance later on can be seen when they discuss the armor holding out against dogs...  "It'll hold up against cats"  or whatever the line was.  We might be seeing her after all.

Of course, these are all if's.  It would be fine if they didn't make another one, with the way this one ended, but if they do...  Well, there you go.

Same here, I saw Batman Begins in Imax so i felt it was only right to see the sequal in the same granduer. I was right. The movie was soo good that I think it might be the first movie I ever go see in the movies twice (or 3 times even.)

I loved every minute of the movie from the moment the first window was broken until the credits began to roll. Heath Ledger should definately win Best Actor for the way he portrayed the Joker. Jack Nicholson should be proud. And for everyone who thinks that two-face was either killed too quickly you have to realize that this is Batman in its most realistic state. You can't have 10-15 villians running around by the 3rd movie. The conversion from Harvey Dent "White Knight" to the two-face was amazing and I wouldn't change a thing.

And nobody has mentioned one of my favorite scenes. On the Ferry when the criminal walks straight up to the man and says, "I'm going to do what you should have done 10 minutes ago" and tosses the detonator off the ship. Brilliant, moving, and uplifting in way too many ways.

The academy is too pompous to acknowledge a performance that was well received by the public. The less people who saw it, the more they like it.  There might be the honorific nomination, but alas as this was an enjoyable movie, and not dull as tombs, won't actually win. It would be nice though. Give it to Matilda.

ummm, i'd rather not shhot myself.

I watched the 1989 Batman last night and i liked it. Michael Keeton and The Joker annoyed me though. Keeton had no presence as an actor, i like Christian Bale more. and the Joker was to funny, i think i'll like Ledgers cycopath Joker more.

I will try to watch Batman returns and Batman forever soon

now i will rate all the batman movies i have seen out of 100

Batman(1989)= 75%
Batman & Robin= 0%
Batman Begins= 90%

This movie was simply amazing. If you haven't seen it yet ... definitely worth the admission price.  By far my favorite movie of the summer. Is there a Boba Fett vs. Batman comparison? The two seem very similar … no superpowers but a lot of gadgetry.

oh and by the way, my favorite quote from the movie is "If you're good at something, never do it for free."
