Needed a major face lift to my armor.  Tired of fiberglass, and was just not happy with the general look.  Looked like everyone else, needed something that said "Leader".  So, broke out my armorsmithing hammers from back in the day and lost 36lbs to bring me up to where I needed to be.

Upper armor is plate steel, including the gauntlets.  Cod and knees are also plate steel.  Thigh, shin, and foot armor is aluminum.  Helmet and jetpack are the only non-metal pieces of armor.  Also working on a female set for a good friend of mine. It's alot of work, but I'm pleased with the results so far. =D

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................Steeeeeeeeel

All I can say is Masterpeice!

As Rev can tell you, I'm very interested in making my armor out of real metal *when and if I get around to making my own.*  How does the weight affect you?  And where did you get the materials?

A good DIY store will stock aluminium or sheet steel to make the armour fom. It is heavier then sintra or fibreglass and you do feel it after wearing it a while.

Looking good Noval, it's got to be a little awkward with the helmet tethered to the jetpack; you've got to remember to  uncouple it every time you want to put your bucket down. The MS bucket works a treat.

Most of my metal came from Lowes.  26gu plate steel and 25gu aluminum.  The aluminum will get replaced with steel over time, but since those pieces are in areas where your body doesn't flex...it's not a big deal.

This armor is actually lighter then my old fiberglass, and WAY more durable.  I can get down and roll around on the ground without having to worry about breaking something.  Helmet feels like my old bobamaker, the only difference on the inside is the optics.  Pretty much the first person in the world to make working t-visor optics.  Night vision, all that fun stuff packed into the helmet.  You really can't feel the tubes, and I designed them to screw in and out fairly easy, and drape over my shoulders when the helmet is off.  I know the armor looks like it's complicated to wear, but in reality it's very comfortable.  I spent to much time on this for it to feel bad on. =D

Thanks for the compliments Orthar.

Thanks for the tips vod.  Got a Lowes and a Home Depot in town, so I should look around.  My bigest concern is the helmet, though.

I've never been into crafts or metal working of any kind, and to me the helmet is by far the most important piece; don't want to spend a super long time learning how to make it and then screw it up any way just cause I'm a n00b.  So I'm still looking to buy for that.  Not an eBayer, the one time I found a helm that was PERFECT somebody snatched it at the last second.......still hate that person's guts, whoever it was.  So if anybody knows of a link where I can request/order a metal helmet without owing several limbs and partial rights to my soul, would really appreciate  :D

yeah, same thing happened to me on a bid for a helm, at 2 seconds I bid $35 and then it said I lost out to some one who bid $37. so it happens a lot.

Nice armor btw.

It's pretty darn comfortable.  Way more so then fiberglass or plastic.

Goodness. I can't say I'm not impressed. I'd kill for a set of armor, especially one as cool looking like that. Honestly I would have thought that the metal would be heavier to wear than the fiberglass, but i guess that shows how big of n00b I am to this realm.

Depends on the thickness of metal you use.  You don't have to use the thickest stuff on the planet.  When you hand hammer the metal, you make it more dense.  That means thin metal becomes hard as you hammer it, so no need for metal thats 3mm thick.  You gotta make sure to roll your edges a little to give it the illusion of thickness.  Will it stand up to a punch? I wouldn't wanna hit me... =D

Wow, great stuff!

I'm hoping to have a helmet soon.  Probably a cheap one, as I'm having trouble finding a steel constructed one, but will be a start and give me something to practice painting on

Your probably not gonna find one made out of steel unless you build it yourself.  Best bet is looking for a casted Aluminum helmet, those are nice and light while still being metal.  Only ones I know of were made by a guy on TheDentedHelmet.com earlier on in the year.  Likleyness of getting more made is pretty low as there were problems with the aluminum caster.

damn, that's disapointing.  I HAD one on eBay.  It went for $50.  Now I know just how badly I lost on missing that one..........
