I was just curious as to what everyone thinks the Force is.

Its virus or symbiote. possibly a parastie (parasite is a type of symbiote)

I'll help you out there Fett_II...
*clears throat*
The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.
Yes i added Yoda's thing too :D

ok, well techinically the parasite allows manipulation of a natural(?)eh..(for lack of a better word) force.

It's almost like the Jedi/Sith are telekinetic and a little telepathic. Perhaps it's more a gift rather than a Force.
But yeah Fett_II and Valthonin's explaination from the movies pretty much covers it.
The "parasites" or rather midi-chlorians, are indeed sybiotic organisms within beings. They are how everyone knows about the force. That is why it takes training to quiet your own mind and to listen to the midi- chlorians.
"Suggestion: Electrocution works well. Evisceration and Decapitation are also effective, or um, so I've heard."
They're not parasitic, though. They are in all things--except, perhaps, the Yuhzzan Vong--its not entirely clear why they can't touch the Force--likely, they were stripped of it, though we're not sure how.
The Jedi formerly served the Living Force, which was only part of the Unifying Force. The Force is hard to describe, and none, not Jedi, Sith, Dathomiri, Jenesarii, or other paths know all of it. It is called the Living Force, the Potentium, and the White Current--and all are different aspects of the Whole--the Unifying Force. The Force is the nature of Life itself. Jedi do not use the Force; the Force uses the Jedi. What Jedi refer to as the "dark side" is nothing more than the raw, untamed power of the Force. But they [Sith] are evil not because of this "dark side" of the Force, but because of the darkness in themselves. There is no "light side" and "dark side" of the Force; the Force is one.
Life stems from the Force--balance is achieved through nature. It is only when someone--Sith, or other--disturbs this balance by using the power of the Force that his use becomes evil.
That's only part of it--much of it comes from Vergere's perspective of the Force.
Yoda had a good perspective too--and I certaintly can't claim to understand it fully.

There was a specific title or name for those that believed in the Potentium... I think... There is some talk of this matter in Rouge Planet as well, but my memory of that book is old. I believe they were eventually expelled for thinking this way, or something. I'll have to look this up.
"Suggestion: Electrocution works well. Evisceration and Decapitation are also effective, or um, so I've heard."
The Ferroans, or inhabitants of Zonoma, believed in the Potentium--it was a life force, like the Force, but that there was no such thing as evil. This stemmed from the guiding consciousness of Sekot, before it was fully aware. Zonoma is the planet, Sekot is the consciousness.
The Yuhzaan Vong were condemned to travel in the void between galaxies as a result of their abuse of the weapons their planet, Yuhzan'tar, Zonoma Sekot's parent, gave to them for defense. They were also stripped of the Force by the same Yuhzan'tar--which was the basis of most of their gods--Creator, and the others--but not The Slayer, Yun Yammka, who they created. The Ferroans still live on Zonoma.
I read NJO recently, so my memory is fresh--but Rogue Planet I haven't read in FOREVER.

I must say that is impressive.

Thanks-- Vergere really gave me a new perspective on the Force. Its a constantly changing subject. The way Vergere describes is is very different from anything else given before.
And yes, you don't have to have strong midi-chlorian levels to use the Force. The A'tiin (sp) Monks and Jorj Cardas both use the Force this way. It's different, and I don't fully understand it, because it wasn't described much.

I'm going to go ahead and go with Vergere's perspective. It's like, a more indepth explanation then Obi-wan and Yoda's. But with good reason. I think if Yoda or Obi-wan said complicated stuff like that to Luke in the beginning....the X-Wing would have never made it out of the Dagoba Swamp.

Wow, A_A. Way to take something so fine and beautiful *to many people* and break it down to a bug :P

Reality can be deceiving. Even if we're talking about fiction here. It's strange how, more and more, people ask for realism in the fiction they watch (TV reality shows and more). Feels just like asking to watch (or even be part of) something deceiving. Makes the gap between social differences even bigger.
yeah, but the books have given rise to many perspectives on it, but Jedi, Sith, and other. so its fictional, but is gaining shape and substance as a solid, if fictional, thing
--Captain Dynamic--
I think that different perspectives make it more realistic. (at least for me.) Like the example of God. Different religions view God differently Some think that there are many gods, while some don't. But one thing that they agree on is that there are otherworldly forces. Just like the force can be different things to the different users, like the sith or jedi.
"Suggestion: Electrocution works well. Evisceration and Decapitation are also effective, or um, so I've heard."
I agree: in a galaxy as wide as it is, multiple Force using sects should have emerged, each with their own view of the Force. Jedi and Sith just being most prominent. But I still hold to the Unifying Force theory--its all of them combined. If or how it guides Jedi and Sith with visions, or if it does that with the whole galaxy, controlling or protecting it, I'm not sure.
--Captain Dynamic--
It's an energy field, generated by all living things.
