The hatch slid open, the almost peaceful darkness burned away. CT-11830 would have prefered it to stay dark, at least then he coulden't see the explosions killing his brothers. The LAAT/i dropped from the sky, and the soldiers disembarked. Their objective was to clear an anti-armor bunker, one thousand meters north through these trenches. As soon as they were all out, the ship lifted, its turrets firing at distant targets.
The Trooper next to 30 was hit almost instantly, falling backwards as if he had slipped. 30 opend fire on the droid, grinning with grim satisfaction as it exploded. Blue bolts of plasma erupted from his brother's DC-15As, burning like minature suns before they hit their targets. 30 and his brothers charged, rushing over the rough ground to their distant objective.
They quickly encountered a small wall, five more men fell to the droid's weapons. The dwindling group of soldiers triumped however, passing over the crushed bits of metal. 30 Found the crunch of metal underneath his boots beautiful. 30 Glanced upward, two LAAT/is passed over head, one of them was hit by AAA, and began to go down.
The group continued onward, they encounterd more droids, and when they found themselves at the bottom of the hill the bunker rested on, there were only eight of them left. They charged, running up the hill, blaster bolts whizing through the air around them. They were close to the top, when 30 felt a sharp pain in his chest and he tripped, he felt his face slam against the inside of his helmet, but he rose again, his brother threw a grenade into the open hatch, and they fell back before it detonated, overloading the powercells and cooking off the amunittion.
30 looked at his brothers, they were not celebrating as he thought they would be, they were huddled around something, 30 walked up to them, trying to push his way past them to see what it was. A clone was lying on the ground, he had been rolled over, there was a hole in his chestplate. One of 30's brothers ducked down and pulled the soldiers helmet off. 30 stopped, staring in horror. The face was that of every one of the soldiers in the Grand Army, but he knew who it was instantly.
That face belonged to him.
