I recently played this game with my cousins, and it was incredible. I was only able to play it for a while, so do any of you have it? If so, is it worth buying?

Post script:
I played as the "Lizardman" and beat by cousins with a piece of ham.

Well i've played soul calibur 2 but perhaps it might be worth buying. if not, its worth being rented as least 4 times or so.

I dunno... I prefer Dead Or Alive...

Although that could be because I felt Soul Caliber was like "If you pick this character and tap this button you cannot lose..."

But what do I know...I don;t really like Fighting games much anyway... I prefer shooters..

As far as fighting games go, its great. But Humorbot is right, its a lot more of a button masher than most fighters are. Kilik and Nightmare are both really cheap, and there isn't much you can do about it.

I too prefer Dead or Alive, but will not be buying DOAX2 for obvious reasons.

ps. If you liked the game, buy it. It doesn't matter what we say.

Good... Bad... I'm the one with the gun.

I mainly wanted to know if there was a storyline and what not, but the game is not for the consoul I own.

What do you own?

And these beat-em-ups don't usually have much of a storyline to speak of...
Of course I dunno if Soul Caliber is an exception.... I'm just saying generally...

I don't know about SC I or III, but I own SC II and I love it to death. The regular arcade mode isn't anything particularly fantastic as far as storyline goes. However, seeing the characters interact is always a joy for me (destined battles). Weaponmaster is a fairly decent storyline. It can be a bit redundant, but the end is good.

For me, the big thrill was the visuals. The characters, the colors, the places... beautiful.

The gameplay can get to be a one-button bash-fest at times. However, if you get far enough in the game you start having to use your brain, especially in Weaponmaster where there's different things you have to do to win. Kilik, Raphael, and Talim all have some annoyingly inescapable moves that you can pretty much use to pwn anyone. Yeah, yeah, I used Talim constantly. But that's besides the point.

My point is that Soul Calibur II does not take fighting arcade games to a whole new level or anything, but playing it is an enjoyable experience nonetheless. If you like it, buy it: hours worth of entertainment.

So... You're saying Soul Caliber isn' anything fantastically special... But its one of the good Beat 'Em Ups and not one of the bad ones...

I think I have  a friend who owns it.... Maybe I'll ask him.

I have a Gamecube, and Soul Calibur III is for the Playstation Two. I just found out, however, that Soul Calibur II is for Gamecube. I will get to play as Link.

SCII on Gamecube pwns the crap outta ever other fighting game on the system...except Super Smash Bros. Which is a tie.

Hey guys, though I'd bump this thread because DARTH VADER AND YODA will be GUEST CHARACTERS IN SOUL CALIBUR IV!!!

Darth Vader is on the PS3, while Yoda will be Xbox 360 exclusive... this is NOT a joke.

ARTICLE: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165334
TRAILER: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165347

A lot of die hard fans are pretty angry, but me, being a big SW fan, I think it's pretty cool.
The one down side is that all the noobs will be using Darth Vader online. :P

Anyway, any thoughts??

hey i heard about that too.

January 17, 2008 5:43 pm #

yeah these button mashers i really dont pefer but shooters are great but u insist buying a fighter game by either tekkan or Soul Calibur II there great games. But for those with xbox 360 or PS3 Call of Duty is the best out there next to Assasins Creed {correct me if im wrong}

Soul Caliber was fun, but never my thing.

Im more of a Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat guy.

But i can see why die hard fans are angry at the SW characters. I mean, I love Star Wars to death but...they dont belong on Soul Caliber.

Vaders black. Yoda's green. Thats why.

(its probably the gayest marketing strategy yet.)

(next to the whole: Battle front 3 being only for the hand held PS. Gay.)

I remember you could unlock Jodo Kast as a character, if you beat the game as Boba Fett.  That was always fun pitting them two against each other.  The Darth Vader force choke was still the best move on that game, though.

You should really use another term besides "gay," a game can't be homosexual after all. ;)

I wonder if force powers will be implemented...  the one thing I don't like is how all the SC characters are going to blocking LIGHTSABERS with traditional weaponry... it just doesn't work...

No force powers, it will actually be the actors (not counting yoda but still)

Got and any proof for your claims, Adeptus? And what do you mean by "the actors," that statement has no relevance to my post whatsoever, from what I can tell. Unless you care to elaborate.
