"Following the success of Boba Fett (appearing in comics and being a popular supporting character), George Lucas considered adding a shot of Boba Fett escaping the Sarlacc for the 2004 DVD release. Ultimately, he decided against it as he does not want viewers to be detracted from the intended storyline."

Somehow I get the feeling he didn't really consider it but was only making that up on the spot to appease us.

Anyone know the source of that IMDb trivia? I hadn't heard it before.

Really? I'm pretty sure George says it in the 2004 re-release RotJ commentaries, that's where I recall hearing it.

So close guys, so close. We were so close to having Boba Fett's survival completely accepted by the world. There will always be those people who only trust the canon of the films. I respect that of course, theres nothing wrong with that. Yet we were so close to ultimate victory............DAMN YOU LUCAS! ONE DAY WE WILL HAVE REVENGE! BWAHAHAHAHA!........sorry about that.....

Maybe in the 2010 re-re-release.  Who knows. :P

I move for a hostile takeover. The BFFC should overrun Lucasfilm and all other related assets...including Lucas Arts. When Lucas is crushed, then we shall release another ROTJ with one tweek, we add the Boba escaping the Sarlacc scene. Then with the power of Lucas Arts we create a second, even better Star Wars:Bounty Hunter...the Boba Fett Chronicles....BWAHAHAHAHA VICTORY SHALL BE OURS!

Valthonin, no thanks.

Lord Revan, yes. That does sound familiar: the DVD commentary.

Adeptus, thanks?

Valthonin, no worries. :)

Back the topic, I find it interesting how Lucas goes back and forth. See our People Quotes: George Lucas section in Manual for this tidbit, and many others:

NEW! That Extra Shot in where He Climbs Out
"In the case of Boba Fett's death, had I known he was gonna turn into such a popular character, I probably would've made it a little bit more exciting. Boba Fett was just another one of the minions, another one of the bounty hunters and badguys. But, he became such a favorite of everybody's that, for having such a small part, uh he had a very large presence. And now that his history has been told in the first trilogy, y'know, it makes it even more of a misstep that we wouldn't make more out of the event of his defeat, because most people don't believe he died anyway. I'd contemplated putting in that extra shot in where he climbs out of the hole, but y'know I figure that's . . . it doesn't quite fit, in the end."

Boba Fett is Dead
"I don't know why. [Laughs]. I'm mystified by it. He's a mysterious character. He's a provocative character. He seems like an all powerful character, except he gets killed. Although he's gotten killed, the people who write the books, and everything, and the comics say 'we can't kill him, we gotta bring him back, we can't let him die!'"

Well atleast Lucas knows and accepts his mistake.

yea but if they did put it in, a new trilogy could be made (preferrably 7,8,9).

November 1, 2007 3:12 am #

Why would they put in a scene like that? It would be pointless (but cool) because Fett is a minor character in the movies. Actually I would rather hear George saying that Boba survived like he did in The Mandalorian Armor... Then everybody would accept that Boba lives.
And what would happen in the third trilogy when the Emperor is dead???

Everyone should check out this movie. Too bad only chapter 1's ready.

They could possibly take the story up from where the books start, although it's probably a little late for that since the actors are 30 years older :P

So they should move the story 30 years forward instead of starting where the books are.

Indeed - Perhaps the new trilogy could be titled: Collapse of the New Republic :P

Or it could be title: "I hate myself and wish SW to die so I'm making another trilogy".

Or, "Another series of movie by George Lucas, this one hase TEN unnessicary incredibaly annoying side characters that are purely for the benifit of little kids, who have no realy idea what the heck is going on, but i'll put theres guys in here anyways instead of realy awesome "badguys" who kick but for fans like those on the BFFC"

George Lucas's lack of loyalty to the fanbase he's built disturbs me immensely. It is the height of Capitolism that he just drops any real effort in exchange for merchandising, sacrificing the potential for a far greater story. Case in point: Episode I, what a load'a bantha poodoo!

Any more ROTJ:SE trivia? Or more about the topic, Lucas considering a shot of Boba Fett escaping the Sarlacc?

Oh we could only hope that Lucas would do a shot of Fett escaping but he put that silly mouth thingy on the Sarlacc - how do you crawl out of that?

Oh wait, I suppose Fett could just throw a grenade up it's gullet wait for it to explode and climb out of the torn and messy maw. It'd be rather gross though...

I thought he blew a hole out of the side of the Sarlacc... been a while since I've read the Bounty Hunter Wars books.

True very true. Non Boba fans would certainly become ones if they saw that. Just so Mando at that.

If I recall correctly, Boba rigged his jetpack to explode, causing the Sarlacc to vomit him up.
Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure it was something along those lines.
