I have noticed that Luke and Anakin experience many of the same things. They are both boys on Tatoooine, wanting to leave but can't. They are both skilled pilots. Their guardians are killed. They are both trained by Obi-Wan. But what I am really trying to get at is in episodes III and VI. They both fight a Sith, and un-arm (or un-hand) them. Palpatine tells both Anakin and Luke to kill the Sith, but Luke does not, and Anakin does. Luke does the right thing, and it rewards him with his life and his father joining the force. Anakin does not, and it helped speed up his turn to the dark side...

Luke and Anakin both face similar trials, but Anakin fails and Luke succeeds.

Hmm, I think that's called lack of imagination on Lucas's part. But anyway, yeah there are a lot of similarities. I mean you look at ROTJ when Luke cuts off Vader's hand, you can see at that point he realises he's heading down the same path as his father and he's determined for that not to happen. I think Luke's upbring in a galaxy of turmoil taught him the importance of being a good person, while Anakin who had been a slave was only drawn to power.

You are right.......i think that was one of the most important decitions luke and anikan had to make......it was the turning point in their life....i think   and both situations were very simular.....only one jedi made the right choice and the other did not.....

In Dark Empire. I like to pretend that's not canon.

Reality doesn't care if you believe in it.

You have to remember that Anakin was told to kill Dooku by someone who he thought was good.

Luke was told to kill Vader by some guy he hated.... the emporer... why would he listen to the emporer?

Good points though.

They're both orphans because it's one of the important plot devices used in stories about young people.  If you want to write about kids/teenagers, you have to kill their parents so that there will be no interference in their adventuring.  Think about all the other orphan heroes--Dorothy Gale, Harry Potter, the Baudelaires, various characters in Dune, etc etc.  Not to mention Boba.  And I think the Obi-Wan thing is the same because Luke was supposed to be Obi-Wan's second chance at saving a child he loved, like Obi-Wan was for Qui-Gon (or as seen in the Sixth Sense).  It's all about writing formulas.  They work well, so everyone uses them, over and over again.  The problem comes when the same writer uses them multiple times in the same book.

Anyway, Anikins "turning point" was so much more emotional than Lukes. I mean, Anikin finds out his mothers been kidnapped, and goes on a rampage, but Luke saw his aunt and uncle's corpes(spelling) laying on the ground smoking, and you didnt see cry one bit. And he STILL chooses overpowers the dark side there. I was amazed at how Lucas overlooked that.

Anakin was a lot more passionate and had a much more volatile personality. Luke is more patient than Anakin, sure he whines a lot but that's just Luke.

Yeah,I think when Anakin is emmotionally charged,he can't control his feelings and think right. But Luke is far more patient and can withstand bad situations better. It seems Luke took from his mother!LOL :D

He,he,he....yeah, it seems so. Luke is very whinny, though! I hate that! It gets annoying after a while. Luke is also a pretty easy part to play, but Anikin, with all those emotions Im surprised Hayden got it right on spot.
