Is anyone else wathing these four great anime movies? It is truly unfortunant that they do not have Howl's Moving Castle, though I do own a copy of the book.

Miyazki i think, anyway, i did manage to see spirited away and overall i found it to be a very enjoyable movie. I'm not a big fan of steampunk anime, cyber punk is more to my likeing. the main character reminds me a little of the one they plan on disney the delivery service one. Excellent quality overall but you'd have to know at least a little about Japanese lifestyle to get it in the long run. I'd give it a 9 out of ten I hope i can catch howl's moving castle, that's the one i really want to see.
I was skeptical, the first anime movie i saw was terrible. I have a feeling it was from not understanding the plot but read or die really threw me off. I mean, i still have issues with that movie.

I'll abdicate at the drop of a hat

Aparently I did not make it very clear, but Howl's Moving Castle is not going to be on :( . The only two movies left are as follow: Laputa:Castle in the Sky, and Nazica: Valley of the Wind. I would also give Spirited Away a nine out of ten. Princess Mononoke, on the other hand would be a fifteen out of ten.

I watched Princess Mononoke last night (it's always been one of my favorites), and I also have Spirited Away.  Personally, I think Kiki's Delivery Service is a fantastic movie.  My sister has Valley of the Wind on DVD, but I haven't watched it yet.  I tried to watch Laputa once and didn't get interested.  I'd like to see Howl's Moving Castle, too, but most of all I want to see Totoro, since I tend to like kiddy stuff.

Totoro, that's familiar.... Is that the one about the kids who's mom's in the hospital and this giant thingie helps them or something and something about a giant tree by their house? And something about a bus too. If so I saw that once when I was a kid, I liked it.

I don't usually watch anime stuff though, but my brother's really into it so he has all these dvds laying around. Mainly subtitled stuff though, so I don't watch it cause it gives me a headache trying to read it so fast before the subtitles go away.

If any of you want to watch a good anime movie,I highly suggest Princess Mononoke. Do NOT watch it with little children. For example, in one scene (probably my favorite), a decapitated wolf head  bit a character's arm off. I think that I saw Kiki's Delivery Service when I was three or four. Whas that the one with the witch on a broomstick?

Yeah, the Delivery Service one is about the witch on the broomstick, I saw a trailer for it a long time ago. I thought it looked cool, but I never saw the movie.

I LOVE My Neighbor Totoro, it was the very first anime I ever saw. All the characters just captivated me, the sisters, Totoro, the Cat Bus. It's such a touching story...

No, I'm not watching the Month of Miyasaki. They had it on TCM a few months ago, with 2-3 different movies once a week, NO commercials, and the second run would show the same movies subbed. CN has WAY too many commercials, it just took all the fun out of Spirited Away.

I'm a long-time fan of Miyazaki (even if he is a hippie...). Kiki's Delivery Service was one of my favorites, along with Princess Mononoke. Spirited Away was a little... out there as far as I'm concerned. I mean, I've grown up on Jap stuff courtesy of my Uncle, but some of that eluded me (what were those potato-head guys?? And what's Lin if she's not human?? AUGH!!). Castle in the Sky didn't really move me, though.

Overall, though, I rather like Miyazaki's work. Even if I don't understand half of it, it's a joy just to look at.

I'm a little wary of Howl's Moving Castle. After all, Time magazine said it was anti-war.

Ah, the question isn't what is Lin, but what kind of Spirit is she? Remember, Chihiro was in the spirit world, and was the only true human there. Which of course makes her highly unusual, even No-face was less weird then here there. Well, not a WHOLE less anyways.

Princess Mononoke, hands down. There's everything: rich Japanese legend and myth, a cool hero, a heroine who can hold her own (unlike the other Miyazaki movies), a villain who's actually an antihero, beautiful settings, a multifaceted struggle, some pretty repulsive enemies, great music, a kick@$$ storyline, a big battle, and best of all... GIANT WHITE WOLVES!!! ^.^

Sorry, I have an obsession with wolves, you see... but the movie would've been great even without them. It's brilliant.

That is one of the top three I am thinking about buying. The other to ther are orco Roso (which has a bounty hunter in it), and Howl's Moving Castle. I just started reading the book, and it is pretty good. Except for the whole talking to hats thing.

Do any one of you guys know the songs they used in cartoon network for the trailers for Laputa Castle in the Sky and Nausicca of the Valley of Wind?  I really like the songs they used for them.

April 4, 2006 6:02 am #

Nope, sorry.  I finally watched Valley of the Wind this weekend, and it was so awesome!  It was filled with giant bugs even grosser than the ones in Kong, and Mark Hamill was in it.  Then I watched Princess Mononoke just for old times sake.  I love the guy with the broken arm--"I'm healed!--no, wait, it's still broken."

It was EXTREMELY good and worth buying (at least for me.)  It was a lot like Princess Mononoke in a science-fiction format, but since the animation is over 10 years older (1986-ish) it didn't look as nice (as compared to Mononoke, which is perfect and set new standards.)  The English voice artists were perfect (perhaps better than the ones in Mononoke.)  I would definitely suggest it.  If you have any more questions, ask away.

Great how so?  Can you compare it to any of the other ones?  (Like you, I need to make certain it's good before I buy it.)

It is probably not as good as "Princess Mononoke," but on a scale of one to ten (ten being the best), I would give it an eight or nine. The movie deviats a LOT from the book, though.
