Sorted by oldest to newestYeah, I was thinking Kad'ika might be Darman and Etain's too...gets you thinking.
August---the release of the next RC book is going to be an agonizing wait, but at least we'll have Sacrifice before then! lol I too like the Nulls. Darman, Fi, Ordo...okay, well, I like just about all of them. But, I really like Skirata too, and can't wait to see what KT does with the squad in the next book.
I was doing some serious thinking on another forum about this book... this is what I wrote (copy & pasted):
So, how does everyone imagine Darman will react when he founds out he is going to have a son?? Angry, proud, nonchalant... Hm, it's really hard to say, isn't? What about the rest of Omega? I bet they'll be kinda jealous. Everyone has an inate ability to desire carrying on the 'family line,' afterall.
You know, I was thinking... Darman probably isn't emotionally mature enough to deal the process of being a father. I mean, he may have the physical appearance & strength of a 20 something year old man, but his brain is that of an 11 year old... don't you remember when Etain first encountered Darman on Quiilura, all she could sense was a child??
How would you feel... 11 years old and you have a kid? Rather awkward, eh? I'm 17, and I'd freak out if I had the responsibility of raising a kid so yound and so unprepeared. Deep down he is just a kid himself, and I think that once he knows he's going to find out, he won't know how to handle it. It's hard for me to explain... because I'm not sure if I'm right, lol.
I also though of another topic we could talk about. Do you think it was selfish of Etain to want to get pregnant? I mean, I don't know a lot about birth control in Star Wars, but it is a pretty advanced society they live in. AND she said that she planned it, right? So, considering that Darman is only 11 years old, do you think her motives to have a child were right? Did she consider Darman's feelings at all? Doesn't seem like it.
I dunno... but I'd appreciate it if anyone has something interesting to say in more than 2 lines.
The other people of that forum didn't have much to say, so I hope you all have more to add...
I believe that Etain's a bit of a visionary: she thinks about what she wants to happen (Darman being happy; having a kid), but she doesn't take time to think of the consequences. Her motives were good, but unfortunately she didn't think about certain difficulties: Kal's reaction, Darman's maturity, her maturity, what will happen to the child if she and/or Darman died in war (in this example I'm saying she didn't know that Kal would raise her kid), if she died in war while still *pregnant*, etc., etc.
So, yes, in a way Etain was selfish, but her motives(making Darman, a man who has no future, happy), were good. I guess we can give her a nod for that.
(Manji, I LOVE topics like this!!! :D :D)

I can see the point about Darman still being a kid himself, but he and the rest of the squad were still old enough to appreciate females. Didn't a couple of them even start feeling jealous when Darman and Atin had girlfriends? And I think it is a good question about how they will react to the news of Darman and Etain's baby. I think that since they are so close as a squad, brothers actually, they will be happy for them, but inside they will be longing for the same thing.
I do agree with what you two have said about Etain. I agree that her motives were in the right place, but she just didn't think it through. Well, with the clones' stort life span, maybe she thought that now was the best time of any since at this point no one knows how long the war is going to last. I don't think it would have hurt if she discussed this with Darman first, but it will be interesting to see how things work out in the next book.
Now to just find out what happens once the book comes out ;)
She just released the date for the next RC book that comes after True Colors. Now we just have to wait a year for it.
"I forgot to tell you. Sorry. I've been a bit busy, as you know.
The fourth Republic Commando book will be out on July 29 2008. Diary that,
folks, and tell all your buddies to as well.
It's still called RC4 at the moment because I've asked the powers that be if
we can keep the title under wraps for as long as possible. When you see it,
you'll understand why. ( I'm such a tease.) But there will come a time when
weI have to come clean on it because they'll need to generate a listing and
so on.
I suppose we could have fun guessing what the title will NOT be.

Can't wait until the next one comes out. I had heard she was doing four books, but wasn't sure since the next one supposed to deal with Order 66 and all. Looking forward to it.

Oh wow, that's really interesting... the title for number four is a big secret, huh? How exciting! She couldn't have started four yet, has she? Already has a title... so the fourth one will be the last?
I got the impression that she was only doing four books. After the RC books, maybe she could go back and tell some of the back stories for the Null ARC's. It'd be interesting to see what led up to the incident referenced in the new "Sacrifice" book about the Null ARC's stuffing poor little Boba's head down a 'Fresher, when they were kids on Kamino. Whoever thought someone would ever give Bobi'ka a swirlie and get away with it?

Yeah, that would make for some interesting stories! Sadriel--you are on KT's yahoo group too? So am I (Darth Taiter)
Just wanted to remind everyone that Republic Commando: True Colors comes out today, so run out now and get a copy.

I'm having vehicular malfunctions...might have a hard time getting it today :( but I will soon! hehe
Pre-ordering stuff officially stinks. I won't get my copy in till this weekend! *head-desk*
BTW, the title of the fourth RC book is "Order 66." :D
EDIT: For people with weak resolves, such as myself, you can go to BarnesandNoble.com and read the prologue of True Colors.... *happy dance*
