Topic: Favorite books?

perhaps there is another thread about this but i did not see it...
seeing as many members of the community r well read,
im curious what r your 5 favorite books? no specifications...can be any.
and why?

DragonLance chronicles and legends by Magaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the Rift War saga books by Raymond E. Feist, The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, and of course the Drizzt books by R.A. Salvatore are my definite favorites. Theyre my favorite because I love the character development and stories of the novels. Some of the characters in those books are more real to me than people I know. and uhhhh i dont know I just love the stories they tell. What about you Cujo?

1. Most SW books, Thrawn Trilogy and X-Wing books at the top, with Bounty Hunter Wars after those.
2. All HPs, with POA as absolute favorite.
3. Both Alice in Wonderland stories.
4. The Green Rider series
5. I can't think of a 5th right off but I probably do have one.

Ooh. I'd forgotten that thread. I don't think I ever posted in it cause it's not really a list of favorites so much as it's telling other people what to do, or at least it's how it seemed to me at the time.

I indended it as recomendations.

Reading is my most favouritest hobby.  Baseball is a close second.  Currently I am working on "Sacrifice" by Karen Traviss.
Does anyone else here read Frank Perretti or Tedd Dekker?  Has any one read Monster or House (Soon to be made into a movie produced by Ralph Winters producer of several Marvel movies)?

my favorite books r these.
1.bright lights, big city-defines the 80's new york yuppie scene...reads like a choose ur own adventure.
2.fight club-if youve seen the movie, the book hits just as hard.
3.1984- simply, i couldnt put it down. a great future drama.
4.on writing- stephen kings book about writing fiction...amazing.
5.uncertain about the fifth but ill go with "the great gatsby".

I don't feel like trying to remember what books I like, but here are the ones that spring to mind.  (In no specific order)

All the Halo novels, the forth being the best so far.

The Eisenhorn trilogy.  It is based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, but I never played it or knew anything about when I read these books.  They were still incredible.  Very epic.

Dark Tower series.

Snow Crash.

The Dresden Files.

Actually, number one is the Holy Bible.

Isn't Frank Perretti the one who wrote the series about the two kids and the dad who have all those adventures (archological I think most were?) If so, I loved those books.

Hmm....I wonder if any of these have to do with Alice Cooper.Because I know you trully hate that guy... :P

as for sev- ive heard of frank perretti, a religous fiction author. but not read. also sev,
if ur into baseball-the book "money ball" will change ur world(possible hyperbole). but it is
a must read. it breaks the game into abstract math-will affect you as a player.

and i realize that "the bible" is the defining book in many peoples lives. i am not a stranger to it,
but i do not find it a good read-so far as a page turner.  im not trying to ruffle feathers, i have much respect
for faith-just asking is it something you like to read or duty and guidence?

the dark tower series lost me after book two...talk about a sprawling tale.

a few have listed alice in wonderland(have not read)...and 1984, interesting.

The bounty hunter wars are a novel trilogy. The books are Mandalorian armor, Slave ship and Hard merchandise.

I have been building up my collection of SW books and I am now working my way though them. I have really enjoyed most of the books that I have read so far. I have not come across any that I have not enjoyed but obviously there will be books that I have enjoyed more than others.

The ones that I most enjoyed reading are:

Shadows of the empire
Survivors quest
Bloodlines
The Bounty hunter wars
Tales from Jabbas palace
The books that were written from episodes 1-6

I saw a certain tv show about something like that.  Very interesting.

I know what series you are talking about but I can't recall what it was called.  And yes it was by Perretti.

Has anyone else read those Boba Fett comic books? I've got a couple of good ones that take place after ROTJ.

The Holy Bible is more of a sence of duty.

I love the Dark Tower series.

I said Alice in Wonderland as a joke, as all of the others were ALICE Cooper related.

- The Golden Compass series. Quite a good read, though I can't find one of the books in stock anywhere.

And several others that I can't think of the names of right now. Though I'd like to give a (dis)honorary mention to the Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini, which succeeds in plagerising(Spelling?) at every paragraph.

How does Christopher Paolini plagerize?

Lets see...
Plot: Farm boy in small out of the way town, knows an old man who tells tales of an old order. A princess is caught while transporting valuable items stolen from the evil emperor to a rebellion. The farm boy finds the item, and so the emperors people end up burning down his uncle and his farm. The old man joins up with the boy and starts telling him about the order. He also gives the boy a special sword, which is later found out to be his fathers. The boy begins to learn the ways of the old order as he rescues the princess, meets up with a scoundrel, and goes off to join the rebellion: helping them defeat a huge threat that follows him there.
This start alone should clue you in.
There are also parts where he just completely copies titles. For example he once mentions "___ weilder of the white flame of ___". LOTR.

Edit: In Paolinis newsletters he is a self admitted Star Wars fan. I have nothing against him for that, what I do have against him is that he copied it's plot and is making tons of money off it, while claiming it's original.

Heh, I never looked at it like that.  Pretty funny.  Even though he does plagerize I still enjoy his books.

I'm a big fan of the His Dark Materials trilogy.

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice...  I think those are pretty good.  (Particularly Blackwood Farm and The Vampire Lestat.)

I've gotten to liking James Reese.  (He's similar to Anne Rice.)

I typically go for horror/ historical novels...  And of course, the Star Wars based books.  And I also own a few of the Buffy-verse books.

The Telisman by Stephen King was great.

have any of you taken the time to read the Foundation series by Issac Asimov? Everything that I read before it was forgotten and everything after pales in comparison ( except mabey Memnoch The Devil by Ann Rice)
