I was just wondering what species everyone thinks is naturally suited to be the best Bounty Hunters? And not just there physical characteristics, but their societies as well. Humans would be divided into their different societies, Mandalorian, Alderaanian, Corellian ,Soccoran and so on.

The Mandalorians are decendants of the Taungs. I would say the best species would be the Mandalorians, the Rodians, and the Aqualish.

December 17, 2006 2:47 pm #

The Mandalorians are not direct decendents of the Taungs. The Taungs were aliens that conquered the planet Mandalore as well as many others. And they allowed members of other species such as Humans, Mandallion Giants, Cathars, and Togorians specifically to be assimilated into their culture. So Mandalorian doesn't mean human, it's a culture in which several species are members of. The Taungs obviously died out, but their culture lives on.
Anyways, I think Barabels would be awesome hunters. Their infra-red vision, enhanced sense of smell, and physical size. Claws, Tails, and natural body-armor that is equivalent to battle armor.

That is not necessaily true. Jango was the decendant of the Taungs, as Cassus was likely a Taung.

Really? Where did you hear that?

December 17, 2006 3:13 pm #

During the Mandalorian Wars, almost all of the Mandalorians were still Taungs. Cassus was Mandalore the Indomitable's second in comand during the wars, which means he was probably a Taung.

I concede the possibility. So why do you think the Aqualish and Rodians naturally make good hunters?

Most Rodians and Aqulish are bounty hunters, mercenaries, etc., so if it was not a great job for them, they would probably not all be bounty hunters.

Good to know. But I wouldn't talk to myself that long. You know, that's a question. Boba Fett doesn't say much, but do you think he talks to himself on those long voyages?

Aside from the usual(Mandalorians, Rodians, ect.), I think Falleen would make great Bounty Hunters. All they have to do is send out some pheromones, and the bounties would fall at their feet. Too bad they're too regal to make good hunters.

I also think Tusken Raiders would make excellent Bounty Hunters, if they weren't so xenophobic. They're certainly aggressive enough to handle even the worst bounty and I wouldn't want to be at the wrong end of a Gaffi.

Any shapeshifting species I would say has a HUUUGE advantage in both stealth and deadlyness, making them perfect bounty hunters.

Maybe Gurlanins because of their shapeshifting ability, but Bothans might also be able to be good Bounty Hunters as well as spies.

The probably would be great bounty hunters. Myriads of them have wanted criminals in their dens, and could certainly conive into getting them turned in. Of course, they wouldn't.

I'd say, in this order; Mandalorians, Clawdites, and Bothans.

I pretty much agree with Mandalore Stargazer about this. But I like Gurlanins a lot too, and I thinks that they would be as good as a Clawdite. So in this order: Mandalorians, Clawdites/Gurlanins, and Bothans.

You know when at first i saw this thread I was immediately gonna say humans, but when you said they were divided into all these little groups.......I'll have to think about it for a while.

I don't think humans are the best suited for bounty hunting. Sure there are probably thousands of them, but compared to clawdites and some other species they just don't seem to be the best suited.

Then again there are the mandalorians (which aren't technically humans but a mix)... so maybe those humans...

Well it doesn't have to be a Mandalorian itself; rather, a human who expertly knows how to use the various weapons. Like Boba. He isn't really a true mandalorian, is he? Not like Jango, at least.

Or modifying a human by cutting out unneccesary emotions and fitting them with cybernetic implants. That's works pretty well too.

Aqulish are not that bright and their are the two species the fingered and webbed the fingered being the more aggressive of the species.  As far as it goes any species could with the right training be a very good bounty hunter. Take Zuckas a Gand not very well know as bounty hunter's but their he is. 4-Lom and IG-88 Droids they are able to upgrade sensor's and learn new tactics ad as a droid never forget like living creatures, although an emp can take them down easily.  Bounty hunting is learned you can list many different species and races in the same species and some will excel while others lag behind.  Montross was a Mandalorian, but he was not as good as Fett, Gredo was no good at all, Snoova was a Wookie and a fairly well known and respected hunter.  Boush was good enough to get Leia in to Jabba's Palace with Chewie. So mostly it is who can get their hands on the best equipment in the galaxy, during the Empire I would have to say Humans made the best because the Empire would share information more freely with humans than non-humans.  Humans being in order of the most widely known for bounty hunting Mandalorian, Corelian, Coruscant.  Coruscant is a good place to hale from because in the under-world you can encounter almost any species in the galaxy.

Isn't this racial discrimination?  (But I'll go with Mandalorians anyway, though Gands are my second choice.)

Twi'leks... yeah, you know, maybe they can strangle someone with their head tails, or distract someone while dancing, or how 'bout I'm just joking?
Heh, maybe it isn't a race... but what about driods? IG-88 was pretty successful, and everyone knows how tough droid assassins can be, just look at how impressively Grievous's magna guards (isn't that what they're called?) can fight. (I'm not talking about weak battle driods!)
And driods can be calculating and intelligent as humans, even if it's only rare occasions..

Greedo was a trashy little punk. Not all Rodians are like that.

Rodians in general pride themselves on being good Bounty Hunters, even going as far as giving out prizes and awards for the best hunters.

I finally bought Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina last night. I knew Greedo wasn't a great hunter but I thought he had done something during his lifetime to make him a redeemable character. I mean Han Solo is good, so getting blown away by him doesn't mean you're a complete loser. He was such a letdown in that book after all I'd heard about Rodians having a culture based around Hunting and fighting.

But yeah, I'd have to go with Barabels(strength, senses, natural body armor, natural hunting instincts), Clawdites( shapeshifting), and humans(adaptability).

If I was totally sane, I wouldn't be as good at my job.

Some droids have emotions, like HK-47, I-5YQ (from Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter) and 4-LOM. Oh, and we can't forgot C-3PO and R2-D2 :P

But yeah, Droids like IG are excellent for Hunting.

I think droids lack the adaptability that makes organic species good hunters. They can't think on their feet. And I know droids can make complex calculations in a matter of seconds, but I don't think they possess the ability to perform random, unpredictable acts like biologicals. I don't even think they understand unpredicatable behavior. Just look at  IG-88 in Tales of the Bounty Hunters.

If I was totally sane, I wouldn't be as good at my job.

Rodians are natural hunters
I would have to say the mandalorains simply because of their culture and most of the more infamous bounty hunters are mando's
and about the Taung where alive around 3,963 BBY
this is taken from a web site i found "The Taungs and the thirteen native Human nations, the Battalions of Zhell, eventually battled for control of Coruscant. Though the Zhell were nearly exterminated in a volcanic explosion, they managed to drive the Taungs from Coruscant. Due to the two years of darkness caused by the ash, the Taungs named themselves the Warriors of the Shadow (Dha Werda Verda).

The Taungs fled to Roon, where they remained for thousands of years, until, under the leadership of the legendary Mandalore the First, the Taungs conquered another world which they renamed in honor of their leader, Mandalore. The species as a whole then also took the name, becoming the Mandalorians (or Mando'ade in their native Mando'a).

Eventually, the Mandalorian species became extinct. Much like the Sith species which gave rise to the Sith Order, the name "Mandalorian" became associated with a multi-species organization of warrior clans, who, regardless of species, adhered to the tenets of the Mandalorians. These Mandalorians, who were mostly baseline Humans, held the legacy of the Taungs in high regard."

I highly doubt it was possible for a Taung and  a human to produce offspirng, although i do not doubt that Taung would have adopted human children as their own and into their clans
