i just got home fromseeing the movie and it was by far the worst movie ever. not that it was a bad movie on a movie level, graphics were great and visuals with sounds were great its the story line. so much of the book was taken out that it just ruined the movie. i wont say what so i dont ruin the movie but now seeing the movie i know that it will be impossible to make a sequel ( its even worse then the Harry Potter films which says a lot) im so disappointed. any one else feel this way who has read the book?

Well every movie is worse when you have read the book. Because everyone knows the book is always better, its just that it only takes 2.5 hours to watch the movie. I'm sure the movie was crap though because I saw trailers plus some extra scenes online. It seems he is a lot more confident in the movie than he was in the book. But my guess is that John Malcovich and the dragon were the only good parts of the whole movie.
Hail to the King Baby!!
Dragons?....bah.
A good movie, a book does not make. Unless it's made by Peter Jackson. ;)

Rule of thumb: never watch a movie that is based on a book if the movie gets a lot of hype. Or if it is based on a video game. For eample (on the first rule), I have seen a lot of movies based off of stories by Stephen King, and they were all great. None of them recieved massive amounts of hype.

may i add that yes he did a great job but he changed critical aspects of the story which happened way to much in eragon ( they even changed his age) and i know it can never be the book but when you make a movie that has critical things that affect future movies you can't exclude them and explain them differently in sequels. i do not understand why authors allow this i really dont. i know if i ever get my books published i will make it part of my contract that i write the screen play and affect what gets scrapped for time because it can ruin a authors sales ( and i know the movie helps too but)... and its also principle.

Actually, the Harry Potter movies were pretty close to the books, except for the fouth one. The director cut out a bunch of stuff from that one, but it still wasn't bad.

they did from the 3rd 1 a bit too and changed a lot fromthe book and the 5th will be even worse. the first 2 werew but thats cuz they were small books which is understandable.

A way I like to say it was a B movie with A special effects. You had ILM AND Weta doing the special effects. But definitely very disappointing if you've read the book. Like the twins? Where were they, and Durza killing Brom? Bah. And we had no Solembum!
Lots of things were taken out, and Eragon had blond hair! It even said in the book that he had brown hair! Also, Saphira's wings looked kinda like bird wings.
Yeah, they screwed up a lot of things, but I loved Sapphira! Also, I think they played things up between Arya & Eragon too much.
I'm going to see this with my friends on wednesday. The only thing keeping me from staying home and watching a Lupin the 3rd movie or Bleach or something is the comic store at the mall. I'll read the book after the movie, had it sitting on the shelf for months.
Kind of reminds me of the hype for the MK movies back in the 90's...I liked the first one, it's not too terrible.
I hate Harry Potter in general, not for religious reasons or anything. I just dislike Rowling's writing style.
Besides, Dragons had feathers. Amphiteres did anyway (South America dragons. Basically a snake with wings. Good example is in an episode of Disney's Alladin)

I wouldn't want to see this, even though dragons are awesome. By rule of thumb I don't go see/buy stuff thats been whored out to death.
FYI, in certain parts of the world (like Asia), dragons aren't the big reptillian bad things the Church painted in Europe. In Asia (and elsewhere) a Dragon is an all-powerfull being. We call the Phoenix a bird, but they go by it as a Dragon.
and dont forget the ajihad didnt get hurt and murghtag ( spelt wrong i know) at the end like why didnt they say what happened to him and lets not forget that their was not one single dwarf in the movie. plus they completely skipped the part where eragon learns to read fight and use more magic...like those arent important.

it was funny how the good and evil was so black and white. The bad guys were wearing black and they were all ugly and dark. And the good guys had golden armour and were all good looking. (thats why eragon had to have blond hair.)
Me and my sis are planning to see the movie a)for the dragon, and b)to make fun of the film. She loves the book and is very bummed out because you can tell how bad it is from the trailers. It's like they think that by giving all the characters a British accent it will make everything more professional. (I'm trying to read the book myself, but flew into a rage after the first two pages, which were of a terrible quality and made me jealous of young writers who have publishers for parents. I have no doubt that it gets better after the prologue, but being a writer myself, I think my bitterness is going to be too great to let me enjoy the story.)

I know how that feels...*bangs head on desk*...gaaaagh...my little brother writes better than that...
Though seriously, if Peter Jackson were directing that movie....^_^ It would've been epic and awesome in every respect, as he seems to be the only Hollywood director who can handle epic fantasy.
-Captian Murphy
he has kept movies closest to the book so far from what ive seen with books of decent size.

I'm in agreement with Maltese Kentaiba with this one. She writes it for a movie. Like she writes everything extremely descriptive, leaves almost nothing to your imagination. And she promotes slavery, in the form of elf slavery. Trust me, we had this huge debate in English class about slavery in Harry Potter.
I just think her style is redundant. About book 4 I really started hating it, not just because she kills Sirius who was the only character I really liked. But because of how stupid some of the plot lines are, or that Harry Potter has never once saved his own skin from the final battle. It's always a plot device or somebody else.
Also, Sirius is an annoying name. I always pronounced it like Osiris. Si-rus. And then they pronounced it like Serious, who names their kid Sirius?
But getting back to Eragon, I told my friends before reading this topic that it wasn't going to be a good movie and it got to the point where I'm not allowed to complain about it till' after we've seen it.
(by the way, if Maltese Kentaiba is too hard to right in a single form just use or the other. Maltese or Kentaiba is fine.)

Thanks, I will not watch it then. I'll buy the book instead. (I want to know exactly how bad it is written)
Everyone should check out this movie. Too bad only chapter 1's ready.
Sirius was supposed to be a pun. The brightest star in the night sky is Sirius, the Dog Star. And Sirius has a dog form. And Rowling doesn't promote slavery. One of the main characters is totally against the idea of the House Elves doing all the work, thats the point.
And thats beside the point of this topic. XD
