I thought that Jedi where not to kill UNARMED people. Well Mace cut Jango's blaster in half first, then cut our hero's head off. HE IS A SITH!!!!!!! "Jedi don't killing their prisoners, no matter what their crime" -Bastila
And Mace said to Obi-Wan "Bring him here for questioning" MACE IS EVIL!

Jango was no where near unarmed. He still had a blaster, flame thrower, vibro shiv, ect, ect, ect... But even still, it was in the chaos of war and Mace would probably end up dead if he decided to go through a weapons check right then and there.

So... I still hate mace (I hate him so much, I won't even capitilize his name)

But most of his other weapons were hidden. Unlike is blaster that mace just cut in half. But he could have probably shot him with a Wrist Rocket

Mace is dark because he wanted to kill Jango, not cause he needed to. Jango was being trampled, any normal person would be at the very least a mite bit dizzy. And it took a while for Jango to be trampled. If Mace was really so intent on saving Jedi lives instead of murdering Jango, he would have been off saving other Jedi instead of standing around impatiently waiting for Jango to finish being trampled so he can kill him.

Yes but he killed my hero, so I hate him for it. Just like Darth Maul, he killed Qui-Gon, and I hate him for it.
But DM is pretty cool though.

Mace was leaning dangerously close to the Dark Side. But you also have to remember that they were in the heat of battle and to leave an enemy alive at your back would be a fatal mistake.

It depends on what you mean by, "we". I love Mace, he is one of my favorite Jedi characters. And I agree with Mel. It was in the chaos of war. But to disagree with Miba, who do you think would kill more Jedi? A few battle droids or a Mandalorian super commando? You saw how Jango made rice cakes out of that one Jedi. In 5 seconds, the battle droids might not have even killed 1 Jedi. And in the long run, Jango was more dangerous, because Mace could start protecting Jedi after those 5 seconds were up and Jango was dead. He didn't have to worry about Jango going on Jedi killing raids.

See they never would have done that, Obi basically embodies goodness. Mace however was supposed to have a sabre style that was very close to using the dark side of the Force. I believe it was mentioned in the novelisation of Ep III.

Yes, I don't think Obi would have killed Mace either. Mace's lightsaber fighting style is Vapaad, which is the Dark Side, basically. You go into the Dark Side to use the fringes of the Dark Side to your own power, and it's hard to come back out of Vapaad.

I hate mace but lets face it he did the smart thing if he left jango alive even without weapons and his hands cuffed he could still kill jedi.

Maybe that's why you never show your face.
This is my face.
March 8, 2006 2:05 pm #

Vapaad was a style that treaded -close- to the Dark Side. In reality the only dark thing about it is that its so aggressive. The trick is not to be thrilled by the thought of death and destruction, but of winning. And Mace wasn't Dark Side! It was WAR, you pitiful excuses for Mandos (that's the people sayin Mace is evil; the hate is understandable)! It was a battle, and in battle the strongest warriors are the ones that come out alive. It was a battle of the heroes between Jango and Mace. And Mace won.

Jango Fett was a Mandalorian in every sense of the word. And I think that he would accept this. Certainly he'd hate having to leave his son to fend for himself, and he'd hate the fact he was dead and there was no more butt-kicking to be done, but he wouldn't end up loathing Mace for it and making any 'he's evil' accusations.

As for Obi-Wan, he knew that Jango had his boy to look after... did you notice he didn't fire back on Slave I? Mace didn't. If he had, I have to believe that Mace would have let him go if he could have. All he knew was that Jango Fett tried to have the good Senator assassinated. What would you have done in his place?

Rest well, Jango. We love ya.

LMAO...yeah i hated jar jar binks. what the hell was george lucas thinking? i agree that killing jango was evil not to mention pretty heartless on mace's part. poor little boba, left all alone in the harsh universe to fend for himself.

I don't agree with it either, But Yoda found Mace when he was studying the dark side of the force. Or so I hear.

A warrior must know evil so that he can combat it. Otherwise he enters battle ignorantly, and will be crushed. Had the Romans been ignorant of the Celtic style of war, they would have lost the Iceni rebellion and all of England, Ireland, and the surrounding area would still be worshipping Gaea. True, knowing your enemy too well can be dangerous, but a healthy, thorough knowledge is necesary.

Mace is not evil. Just misguided.

Mace is a fine Jedi, and I admire him above all the others on the council (with the exception, perhaps, of Plo Koon). He is the best swordsman among them, and does what needs to be done as opposed to letting himself be completely blinded by compassion. He deals in justice, and Jango deserved to die.

I for one, praise Mace, both for his performance against Jango (dizzy or not, all's fair in war) and that against Palpatine. He'd have killed the latter as well had Anakin not been a cowardice little emo kid. But mostly, I thank him for ending Jango, whom I hate deeply, and in doing so creating what Boba is today; a cold, logical, justice-driven killer.

Actually, Palpatine had the fight planned out, pretty much. Palpatine was in no danger of dying. He also tells Mace this when he says, "Power, unlimited power." That's like telling Mace that "You think you would have beat me? HA! The Dark Side gives me unlimited power!"

The thing though is Yoda wanted alive Jango for questioning. When he hid out on Geonosis, Yoda's orders weren't suddendly void: he still wanted Jango for questioning. And Mace was RIGHT THERE when Yoda told Obi-Wan that, and chances are the Jedi who went to Geonosis to assist Obi-Wan, including Mace, were reminded of this as well. Mace didn't seem to particularly mind when he killed Jango anyways.

Of course! What would any self-respecting justice-dealing person have done? It was war. Jango was Mando and he knew this. In fact, he would have done the same, I'm sure.

Let's switch the places for a moment. The Mandalorians serve the galaxy as guardians, and the Jedi are a dying race, desparate, willing to do anything to survive. This includes bounty hunting. Mace tries to kill Padme, then runs off to his little retreat on the Rim. Some Mando'ad goes to smite and retrieve, and fails.

Jango helps organize an assault on the enemy and, being the most able warrior, leads the charge. He sees Mace has a kid. Duh! He would feel bad, but how many orphans have the Mandalorians left in their wake over the course of history? He'd kill Mace, win the battle, and have no remorse. I suppose this would make Jango evil? If so, then the whole Mandalorian race is evil. People die in war. They leave loved ones behind. Orphans are created in war. This can't be changed. Jango knew this, and I'm certain Mace did. They're shaking hands somewhere in the Force and agreeing 'it had to be done. I would have done the same in your place.'

Supposedly, decapitation was reserved for the most dangerous of enemies. Jango Fett was probably the most dangerous non Force user of the galaxy. He effortlessly killed Jedi Council (Master) Coleman Trebor, and if you count EU, he killed Komari Vosa with little problem either (I hardly lost any health bars when killing Komari Vosa in the "Bounty Hunter" game). Mace almost got immolated by Jango's flamethrower.

I doubt there was any way to capture him, either. If Mace had not killed him, what would the next move be? Flamethrower? Wrapping Mace up with the cord shot from the Mandalorian wrist armor? It took Luke a bit of time to get out of it when Boba Fett used it on him in ROTJ.

I'm not saying I liked what happened, heck, I think they killed off Jango and Qui Gon way too soon. However, I don't think Mace's move would call for immediate dark side point.

He really didn't have any reason to hate Jango, did he? Why would he hate him more than a simple battle droid? I think that it was a look of focus and concentration. Though I may be thinking of a different scene...

but think about it. Jango was the only person boba loved, and they were together for 11 years. i would become attatched to someone i was with for my entire child life. and to witness that person that you cherish the most, that loves back the most, get brutally decapitated by someone from the jedi, who jango had already explained are their worst enemies, would probably cause boba to be hurt in a way that time nor any medical treatment known to man could heal...

Yeah...the one thing about SW for me...is that it is such an awesome movie...and it doesn't have alot of gore. Normally, since im a normal guy, i like gory, bloody, fighting movies with lots of action. But SW does a fine job without it...in fact, it became my favorite group of movies...(p.s.  there are close following seconds)

I couldn't agree with you more, Spy. If SW had a lot of gore, than there wouldn't be the adoring lil padawan SW kids watching: SW doesn't become as popular.

Well, III was PG-13 and pretty gory, and there's still fans.
And I know lightsabers cauterize, but maybe the acklay could have torn him in half or something . . .
And what is the spirit of the film?  It wasn't originally made for little kids.  I not saying it sould have been like Gladiator (awsome movie) or something, but I wish the notch was slightly higher.
