Topic: mando crests

all mandalorians have difrent colours on there armour as everyone knows but im more intrested in there crests, boba wore jasters crest on his armour (as well as it been on the side of the jasters shadow) and from all the books and other places it seems like each clan of mandos has a difrent set of crests, anyone know where i can find a gallery along with a list of the clans they belong to as well as what each one means?

Sorry. I could tell you what some of them mean, but I don't know of a list. But that's the handy thing about Mandalorians: aside from the tenents of Mandalorian life, nothing's really written in stone. Colors can mean a number of things, or they can mean nothing at all. My armor, for example (I'm working on constructing a set), it black with gold designs on it. Black is for Justice, gold is for Vengance. Colors can be about a Mando'ad's mission or virtues, about their personality, or just their preference. It's a way for them to express themselves, and the armor is unique to each warrior. Crests are more telling. They explain what a warrior has accomplished, where they've been, and where they're from. Here's some of the ones I do know:

Mythosaur skull- Symbol of the Mandalorians, as well as bounty hunters.
Shriek-hawk eyes (Jaig)- given by a Mandalorian leader to denote an act of highest honor
Journeyman Protector's Crest- Self-explanatory. Rough Earth translations render it as 'No sorrow (or regrets), no fear, no peace.'

That's all I can think of, at any rate. Anyone else?

Is mythosaur skull a symbol of bounty hunters? I didnt think it was bounty hunters are individual they dont have a crest.

Well it was the symbol for "fringe" in Star wars Miniatures

Yeah thats probably because they didnt have any other symbols to use.

I think it's often a personal thing, worn for the same reasons that medieval knights displayed a coat of arms and people in Japan still have mon badges printed on their kimono - to make it easier for people to recognise you, to show your allegiences, and give people an idea of who you are.

Since they wear helmets most of the time on the battlefield, Mandalorians would have to rely on crests to recognise and form opinions about allies they've never met before. You'd know that a guy wearing a jaig crest is probably going to be highly skilled, and the guy with the crosshairs crest has probably got a decent aim. A leader dealing with squads he's never worked with before would have an easier time deciding what he wants everyone doing.
Family and clan/group crests would make is easier to know who's with who and who's related to who. It's rather morbid, but it would also help sort out the dead after a battle.

In the real world, crests sometimes have something to do with names. Even today, the Mitsubishi company uses the Mitsubishi family's mon of three diamonds. 'Mitsu' is Japanese for three, and 'bishi' is diamonds.
Inspired by this sort of thing, my Mandalorian character wears a mouse becuase her Theelin surname (Equiqua) sounds like 'Little Eek' in Mando'a (Eki'ika).

Crests can also be tied in with personality quirks or exist solely as art. In real life, this is very evident in Japanese kabuki performers. The Onoe line (pronounced 'o-no-eh', not 'oh no'...) encouraged people to pay attention to their performances with a design of 'listen carefully' - 'yoki koto kiku' in Japnese - with a design consisting of an axe (yoki in Japanese), a sort of musical instrument called a koto, and a crysanthemum (kiku).

I don't know much about the "crests" but the skull is a Mandalorian skull,apparently.
From when they were an actual race before human mercenaries adopted the Mandalorian name.

What you are thinking of are the Tangs, but the Mandalorian crest is of a Mythosaur skull.
