Yes, he's in Tales of the Bounty Hunters and The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy. He's really cool!

I dont think Dengar was a mandalorian if he was more would be said about him probably, but he did find Boba.

Your god won't be there to save you, or maybe I will

Ok... maybe I'd better give out his story... He's not Mandalorian, btw

Dengar was an average normal Corellian human at one point, except he was good at racing swoops. So one day he's racing with Han and Han accidentally knocks into him and off Dengar goes flying right into some Glass Grass poking himself all over and pretty much slicing his head open a few times. The only thing that could save him was Imperial medical people, and while they were operating they figured they might as well pull out some of his emotion centers (happiness, joy, love, I think were among them) and turn him into an Imperial Assasin. He started wandering away from the Empire and started hunting on his own. Though what he really wanted was to kill Han. During his hunts he met this girl, Manaroo. They fell in love. Dengar was on Tatooine scavanging the wreck of Jabba's sail barge when he stumbled across Boba. And they saved him and helped him heal. Later on Boba and Dengar were partners a few times.

He also got a pig from Star Fox named after him: Pigma Dengar.

But since 99.9% of Star Fox fans hate him, PLUS the actual progammers, that isn't such a good thing. XD

For some reason, I just adore Dengar. Probably because he seems like an everyman type - he 's not particularly talented or particularly bright, and it was really just a (un)lucky break that made him into a cybernetic killing machine. But somehow, he's always managed to get by and actually do pretty damn well for himself.
Although, hanging arond Boba probably has something to do with it...

October 19, 2006 2:12 pm #

Personally ithink he is skilled you must have quite fast reflexes and stuff to be one of the best swoop pilots. After the cybernetics he is amazingly skilled.

I'm smiling because they havn't found the bodies yet. :)

Dengar is the coolest cyborg since General Grievous...

And that IG-88 is pretty cool too.

He also takes some sort of drug that makes him hallucinate. He starts to think people look like Han Solo a few time during TOTBH.

It has been a while sence I read the story, but I think that that was just his extreme rage.

Yeah he was a pretty angry all the time until he found love...Then he was only angry half the time.

And chances are you'd be angry too if you'd gone through what he's gone through...

lol

I thought it was Han's fault cause he tried to  make a jump over Dengar and the font of the swoop landed on Dengars head which resulted in the crash.

Yeah, I think it was Han's fault. But he hit Dengar's front and not his head. (you know on the swoop they have those long parts sticking out the front?, I think they have something to do with the steering) His head was injured when he crashed into some glass grass.

I could've sworn he took some drugs. I got to hunt down my book and check it out again, because now I want to know for sure.

Have you had a look whether Wookieepedia or the Databank say anything about it?

Disciple Sift Through Lies; Few Grains Of Truth Be Known...

What you're probably thinking of is that while he was being re-made by the Imperium, they'd used various chemicals and drugs on him during his training and the side-effects had given him the tendancy to hallucinate, probably on and off for the rest of his life.
I suspect there may be a bit of post-traumatic stress there as well though.

Actually, I believe you're thinking about the Annati or Annanti (Forgot how it's spelled) It's that little ring that Manaroo put in the Cybernetic link on his neck to help him feel emotions again.

I'm reading the "Bounty Hunter Wars" trilogy now and Dengar comes out as a bleeding heart compared to Boba Fett. Quite a change from how he was portrayed in "Tales in the Bounty Hunters".

But then, just about everyone human comes out as a bleeding heart compared to Boba Fett. Isn't that why we love him?

He was swoop racing in the Crystal swamp of Argelet sorry about the spelling. The Empire did turn him into an assassin during the surgery to save his life they left him with only three emotions hate rage and loneliness,  it was actualy Dengars girlfriend who saved Fett because once Dengar learned who he had pulled out of the sand he was ready to kill him.  Long story short Fett set Dengar up in Jabba's Palace that's why he wasn't on the sail barge. Dengar pulls Fett from the sand girl steps in Fett lives on.

Partly I think that was Manaroo's influence.  But also I think it was because of the perspective we were supposed to have as readers.  The Bounty Hunter Wars, if you ask me, is from Dengar's perspective half the time (though I haven't read it in a while).  Kinda like how Frodo is the hero of LOTR but Sam is the character we're supposed to associate with.  Since Dengar was the more personal character in the BHW, we got to see more of his true feelings, while in Tales of the Bounty Hunters he only told us what he wanted us to see, because he was trying to keep up an image.  (Sure it's not a first-person story, but it follows one character, whom the narrator is almost constantly with.)

Perhaps Boba, being the crazy guy he is, wasn't accessible enough as a story-telling character, so Dengar was used as the sane eyes we could see Fett through.  Someone who, like us, was amazed at what Fett could do.  If we had seen things through Fett's eyes instead, we might not have understood his motivation because he's such an "alien" being to us.  Plus he might have become excessively human.

Then again, I could be overanalyzing this.  ;)

Overanalysis? No such thing! :p

Your analysis makes a lot of sense. I did get the feeling while reading BHW that we were supposed to identify with Dengar and see things through his eyes, for in many ways he was the most "human" of the characters. It made Fett seem all the more extraordinary in contrast.

This could be the same reason that Fett seems so "alien" and emotionless in some books and yet so human in Traviss's works. It's all a matter of narrative perspective!

This sounds like the makings of a good dissertation. :)

Dengar was trained as an Imperial Assassin. He underwent brain surgery that replaced gis hypothalamus with circuitry, making him nearly unfeeling. he is now a bounty hunter who claimed 23 bounties and has a personal grudge against Han Solo for severe injuries he suffered racing him through the crystal swamps of Agrilat.

Now, were those 23 bounties from before or after he hooked up with Boba?
