I'm sorry for being quite inactive lately, but as I was looking around town for jobs I stumbled upon a Marine Corp staff sergeant and he told me about carreer opportunities, the wonders of being a marine, etc. It was really cool to talk technologies, weapons and tactical ops with a professional!
Anyway I told him about my interest for the Army that goes back for a while now... And all I got was a Licence degree in Scandinavian languages (that's equivalent to 3 years validated in university). He went "Aaahh! :O" and told me I should totally look into signing up because they reeeeally need people with "rare" linguistic abilities like me :D
I might be gullible or whatever, but when you've been applying to dozens of jobs all over and got nothing but "Sorry but we don't have anything that suits your profile" as a response, you can get pretty angry at society. And no, I'm not choosing the military way because I'm angry. I sort of believe in their honesty and devotion to serve, and - for once - I'm not being discouraged before even trying.
I hope you'll excuse this major off-topic post in the art thread, I didn't want to attract any useless attention on my case by creating a special thread for this. I'm not stubborn by nature, but this time I won't back away from taking this chance.
Henceforth, no artworks for the mo' :P

Yes she told me she thought of Bardan as skinnier, and a bit more scruffy-looking (a bit like the undisciplined jedi :P) But she liked my work anyways.
I'm not working on anything at the moment (because I'm busy with other crap) well.... actually there are some works in progress, my mind just won't focus on them...

Daenna,
I really loved this pic you put on here.
Mandalorian warrior, at first it was just a study for the armor but it turned out cool enough :P
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/ninja_pukie/doodle/mando.jpg
Before I had to move and put all my model stuff into storage for eight months, I was going to make a 12" figure of what kind of Mandolorian Costume I would make, if I ever had the gumption to make one. One of the big things was that it was a mesh between that of ARC Trooper and Mandalorian armor.
It would have a Mandalorian helmet, of course. Black Republic Commando body suit, because they're air sealed for short trips in a vacuum. Mandalorian body vest (front plate, back plate, & shoulder bells), Mandalorian wrist gauntlets, Mandalorian Knee pads, and Mandalorian midsection armor (cod piece and butt armor). The Clone Trooper armor parts would be thigh leg armor, shin leg armor, boots, upper arm armor, elbow pads, gloves, and the piece of armor that goes on top of the glove. There would also be a black Kama, with the same double pistols and holders that the Clone Troopers use. The actual vest material would be flat gray and the armor pieces that attach to the vest would be a darker gray, as well as the rest of the armor. All of it would be dark gray. The helmet would have a red "T" and have Jaig Eyes painted on the top. I would have the figure with a DC-17 rifle (the one's used by the Republic Commando's), simply because of it's simplicity and multi-functional use.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DC-17m_Interchangeable_Weapon_System
This pic you had there is the closest I've seen to what it would actually look like. I know it has the Mandalorian leg and shin armor, but it's still close enough. Awesome stuff. Thanks for giving me a better visual of what it supposed to look like.
Awesome pics you have there.

I have... but the commando armor is different from the others, I need to do some research. Maybe I will get more inspiration from Triple Zero and would try to illustrate certain scenes (without giving out too much about the story!), because now I need more than just characters to start drawing...
If I might make a suggestion that would go over great with lots of fans. Heck, I think Karen Traviss would even be tickled by it. If you ever read Triple Zero, I think the coolest pic you could ever do from the book, would be from the end of the book, where the one Clone Trooper says he wished he could take a picture of them all. It was when they were all suited up for the mission. The Commando's were in their armor (Delta in their regular armor and Omega in their black Stealth armor). Kal Skirata was in his sandy Mando armor and Walon Vau was in his black Mando armor. Then you had the regular clone trooper that was with them. The one young Jedi boy, who was also in Mando armor, and the young Jedi girl, who had Clone trooper armor on under her robes (much like Obi-Wan in the Clone Wars cartoon, I imagine). Ordo, with his red ARC Trooper armor, and Mereel in his blue ARC Trooper armor.
That would look totally sweet, I think.

Seriously, though, there's a mixed group of Marines and Navy here in Biloxi, and I have noticed that we treat females better when it comes to career oppuritunity. France. I'd be joining the territorial army, and since they've gone all pro I'm applying for transmissions linguist... Not too exciting or anything but a carreer is not really what I want... if I can, I will take it but my personality disorder is that I like doing 2938405 different things at the same time.

June 20, 2006 4:58 pm (Edited June 20, 2006 05:01 pm) # Ok, I'd like to thank you all for the encouragements :) But I have been hearing "Become an artist!" all my childhood from my friends and family, I might be contradictory or something but being an artist fulltime really doesn't sound exciting to me... Ok, I like drawing. But damn it takes so much time :( Completeing 1 piece takes me 2 days straight, only taking short breaks for food and naps.
I'm already 23 and I need to make a living out of something. Becoming an artist, getting exposure, earning money off of it takes ages and I just can't afford it. Besides, doodling doesn't require much energy, I can still do it when I'm 50 or 60 or even as a retirement hobby ;)
Atin: it sucks to know your parents don't approve of your interest for the army. But it's totally understandable from their part. You're still a little girl to them and they don't wanna see you grow up too fast.... My advice: keep your master plans to yourself, it's all a matter of timing ;)

I had wanted to be in the military since the 5th grade. I was always facinated with tanks, until I saw an A-10 tear one to shreds just using it's nose mounted machine cannon, not even using missles. Then, I decided I didn't want to burn to death in a tank. They're death traps. That's a crappy way to go. I never narrowed it down to the Air Force, though, until 11th and 12th grade. The only J.R.O.T.C. they had in my high school was Air Force, and I had gotten more interested in earth science and astronomy by that point, so the Air Force was more geared for that. For the cryptological linguist, was it more for computer stuff and code breaking, or did you have an actual language in mind? I know they're always looking for the more exotic languages all the time. Not the more common ones. There are plenty of people who speak German, French, Italian, etc.... They need more Slavic languages, and especially now, they're looking for Arabic language speakers and any other Middle Easter languages, for that matter.

June 27, 2006 6:48 am (Edited June 27, 2006 07:05 am) # I had art lessons while a grade-schooler, took art in junior high, did not do any art stuff in high school (concentrated on sciences), then my final major in college was/is art. It takes practice--teachers tell you to draw everyday--I need to, but I don't do it like I should.
The pics shown are done in Prismacolor--a combination of colored pencil and crayon. Rise of the Mandalorians took me about a month to finish as I didn't work on it as often. "Bounty Hunter at Work"--the gauntlet pic---took me less time, but I worked on it more often.
Thanks for the compliments! It also helps when you are like totally into the subjects of the work! hehehe

Clones are easy :) Stormtroopers are... not that easy, I think. The helmet is much more complex and has those curvey things and lines that are so different from the original clone helmet.
This reminds me I haven't posted a sketch work I didn't complete. Here it is. I stopped working on it a month ago.
